Richard Cevantis Carrier (born December 1, 1969) is an American historian, atheist activist, author, public speaker and blogger.
Carrier has a doctorate in ancient history from Columbia University where his thesis was on the history of science in antiquity. He originally gained prominence as an advocate of atheism and metaphysical naturalism, authoring many articles on The Secular Web and later defending his basic position in his book Sense and Goodness Without God.
Love the very unbiased moderator. 😒
This debate is both edifying and amusing. Both debaters make many good points, but they both keep reverting to that whiny, plaintive tone of voice. It almost seems like a debate to substitute for an oral defense of a PhD thesis.
Is this tone commonly or always used in academic debates?
Is it ironic that they are so contantly whiny and combative on the topic of the religion of Mercy, Kindness, and Love?
Carrier looks so young here. He is already quite knowledgeable, but fortunately, as he aged, he developed more style, humor, and eventually, even empathy for his debate opponents. Well done, 'Carrier'.
When Licona speaks I’m consistently stultified by the cultural bias of his inane word salad. It’s palpable how attached he is to his fantasy and there’s no convincing him otherwise. He cannot fathom that the Bible was written by fallible human beings
