      You're very welcome! I'm happy that we could take you for a drive down memory lane. 🚙😁 The town is clearly in good shape and quite a busy place on the random Tuesday we were there. Having grown up in the 90's, I'm sure you recognised most of the buildings with a few odd new ones added in, no doubt. Thank you for watching our video of your old hometown! 👌🏻

    At 3 minutes and 7 seconds in your video is where I had a really bad bike accident in 1991 = that used to be the FNB on the corner on your right. I am not from "Toti i was staying at my parents holiday flat in Warner Beach

    Quite a couple of huge buildings there. They spent a lot of money to make the beach fronts nice
    and even the pools - a lot to do for the tourists. ike the previous one, this was a very rewarding trip.

    I worked as a Telkom cable maintenance guy through the late 90s and Toti was one of the areas I covered. That dead end beach road was a popular place to take our breakfast breaks. Always had a hard time getting to work afterwards! 😆Got to tell you though, I always preferred the cooler months, as December could get very humid and uncomfortable. Thanks for the memories.😊

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  Рік тому +2

      That dead-end beach road looked like just the perfect spot for any kind of break to me! I'm surprised you actually got back to work at all afterwards! 🤣 Luckily we were there in August with low humidity, that stickiness is a tough one to handle sometimes! 😰 The cool thing about this area of KZN though, is that even the cooler months aren't freezing. That is such a huge benefit of living there. Thanks for sharing your memories, it was super cool reading them! 🚙😎

    Hi you two! Thank you for taking me toToti! This is quite a town. So many places to have fun. The beach is really spectacular under the blue skies with the perfect waves. Some of the buildings are so high it's hard to believe - especially tha zigzag one! I'm just wondering what King Shaka would say of those enormous structurs that have appeared at his favourite quiet place. The green, and some big and old, trees everywhere along the streets and in your drone shot makes this place very special, even if it is so "modern". Thank you again for a wonderful outing, and, until next time -
    Keep safe!

      And thank you for coming to Toti, it's indeed a fun place, there's zero doubt about that! 🚙😁 That zigzag apartment building was HUGE, it felt like it went on for half a kilometre! 🤣 Methinks King Shaka would think he's at the wrong address. I, much like him, would also prefer it being the quieter place of sweet waters still, but then we wouldn't have progress. 🤷🏻‍♂️ There is certainly enough green around and, it being Sonia's favourite colour, is always a very welcome sight to us too! 🌳💚 Thanks for taking the time to drive around with us again, much appreciated!

    Hi guys Amanzimtoti was really interesting to me when I was in joberg in the 70s a guy said I come from Amanzimtoti it sounded so exotic to me and now I've been there definitely geared up for tourism with the hi rise flats and holiday complexs stunning views and beaches love the story about Shaka. The life saving club must have lots of work in the high season judging by the size. Loved the shark board! The municipality Park looked great with the braai facilities. The thirsty whale looked lovely with amazing views and the fishermen on the rocks set the scene off .lovely Japanese gardens shown perfectly by the drone. The whole place screams holidays fun and entertainment sweet water is a great name. Sorry you couldn't get your biltong but luckily I had some for you ! A lovely clean place a day at the beach thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one

      You have me a little jealous now about your biltong, we just finished ours yesterday and it's time to stock up again! 😁🥓 Amanzimtoti is really a bustling place and the number of high-rise buildings is clear proof of it being geared for tourism. Another place that I think goes wild over holidays! It was fantastic to see the sparkling pools and I'm sure the swimmers will start splashing around again as the weather warms up some more. ☀️🏊‍♀️ I think I'd choose the pool over the ocean with that shark board up there! 😳🦈 Thanks for joining us in Toti!

    What a pretty swimming pool! I suppose lots of places had to close because of lack of funding. I bet the place is packed out in the season. Love the super slide, would love to give that a go. 🤣That motor cycle sounded just like a brommer, I wanted to reach for my fly swatter! I wonder what sort of cocktail a thirsty whale would drink? Perhaps a Gargle-Blaster-Tailsplat? Oooh! A gym on the beach! So cool. And its free! I love outdoor gyms. Wish there were more of them. Oh wow! Japanese garden! My fave!! What makes them Japanese is certain features, like little bridges and water, features, colours, plants, the general harmonious layout. Pity you didnt have time to visit personally, its an experience. It is a place of peace.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  Рік тому +2

      While we're almost always on a time-crunch when we travel, safety was once again the only consideration and reason why I didn't explore the Japanese Gardens on foot. We had to park across the street and quite a few folks were hanging and walking about and I was just not comfortable leaving Sonia alone in the vehicle. No footage is worth either one of us, or both for that matter, being worried about the other the whole time. That's just how it is. 🤷🏻‍♂️ The place is absolutely gorgeous and much larger than the drone footage shows. For some reason there was major interference and I was uneasy to fly longer. I think I'll order a Tailsplat next time I'm in Toti, that is the perfect name for a cocktail at that location! 👌🏻🍹🐳

      We were in town on a Tuesday in early August and I think everyone who would normally be on the beach on a Tuesday afternoon was in town, doing business of some or other kind because the town was certainly busy enough. 🚙😁 I didn't think it odd that the beaches were so quiet in wintertime, I think that's par for the course, especially mid-week. 🏖️

    • @guyyoung6659
      @guyyoung6659 9 місяців тому

      They are quiet because they are closed..... because of the HIGH ECOLI readings....in many places there is hard poo going direct into the rivers etc......... perhaps people need to ask THE LOCALS their thoughts on the town itself right now........for me, my soul is here, I grew up in Toti and the adjoining area's, I did ALL my schooling here , my sport foundations were created here and I have been a part of its transformation from the mid 60's, as have plenty of my family.......I personally am saddened by the decay in what was once a premier place to be.

I am surprised at all the high rise buildings in Amanzimtoti. Would they be flats or holiday apartments ? There must be a large number of retired people living there. The high-rises in Toti surprised us too, there were so many of them! 🏣🏬😳 Judging by the number of people about on a random weekday in early August, I would imagine they all contain a healthy mix of full-time residents and holidaymakers. I agree with you, I would imagine many folks retire to the warmer weather of the KZN coast. 😎☀️ We did indeed stock up on biltong later in the trip! 😁🥓

    If Toti was set up anything like Durban back in apartheid times, then I'd take a guess that the pool and no longer used facilities you found on the nice drive through the bush might have been the local black, Indian, or Coloured beach (or non-white beach? I think maybe there weren't separate Coloured and Indian beaches? - anyway, a relic from the old days, not used, because now everyone goes to the busy beach where all the toys for the kids and the restaurants etc are.)
    This is definitely the case with the facilities closer to the Umgeni River in Durban (although those get used quite a lot these days, because there's place to set up a braai, etc, there.) The quality of the segregated facilities they built was often reasonable to good; it's just that the locations were less ideal.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  Рік тому +3

      I'm of the opinion that the pool was simply not used that day because we were there on a Tuesday, in winter and out of season and for no other reason. There were hardly any folks swimming in the ocean either nor at any of the other pools we saw, so I think it's a seasonal thing altogether. I don't think there could've been a better spot for the pool than right on the beach. I just can't look at everything with the same questioning eyes you do, I just can't. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Life has to be simple and uncomplicated sometimes too. 😁

    • @sicko_the_ew
      @sicko_the_ew Рік тому +1

      @@DustBugsTravel I'm just jumping to conclusions, that's all. Durban's old non-white beaches were off at some distance from the main beachfront, and still exist - as far as facilities go. Things like pools seem to be more favoured if they have big crowds at them. Maybe not, but I can't recall seeing them being used in Durban in recent years.
      (But in the end that's not what matters today. The fact that they're still being maintained matters, and the fact that the Toti one is at the end of a really nice drive does too.)
      It's reasonably simple, but I suppose still a bit complicated in some ways.
      I think I should just change topic, anyhow.
      Did you know that the Toti Parkrun is mostly on the beach itself? (Is that better? :D )

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  Рік тому +1

      I didn't know that, no! And as a big Parkrun fan, and if I were there on a Saturday and if my shins would've cooperated, I might've just had a go! 😁🏃🏻
