- Supported living is where a person with a disability gets the support they need to live in a home they own or are a tenant in. In this video we meet a number of people who show us how Supported Living helps them live more independently.

i have Down Syndrome, but i also don't want anyone to treat me like a kid when i'm a fully capable adult.
unlike you I'm a completely normal person without any major disabilities and my parents treat me like a toddler.
I agree. I’m an autistic person and I can’t stand being treated like a toddler although it happened alot when I was younger so I know how ya feel.

I have autism spectrum disorders and I'd never live in a group home at any time but so far, I like group homes in U.K. so much better than those in the U.S. If you have a disability of any kind but you don't live in the U.S., then I don't recommend that you come to my homeland to live in a group home. Here in America, group homes are like prison that doesn't lock you up and an authoritarian government that takes away your autonomy, doesn't let you live the life you want, doesn't let you leave the house anytime you want, staff come over to your home 24/7 where they trap you inside and order you around, you have 5+ roommates possibly in a 2-bedroom house and do everything as a group, and life is planned for you by an interdisciplinary team, and people visit you without announcing themselves. I don't know what group homes are like in other countries but don't come to the U.S. to live in one even if you think you could benefit. They're shitholes that are worse than prison here in my home country. In the U.K., they look so much better than here in the U.S. At least at this one, people can leave whenever they want and aren't ordered around.
Just because u have learning difficulties doesn’t mean u have to go into supported living doesn’t mean everyone with it goes into it either because they don’t I have learning difficulties but I don’t want to live in supported living they treat u like kids not everyone needs this who has a disability
I have Asperger syndrome, i live in a supported living flat, it can be hard having Asperger syndrome but i just get on with it, i had a support worker who got suspended then fired supporting me to get money out to go food shopping who was caught on a cctv footage stealing from me from an atm by the police plus a lot of other money went missing from my bank account but now i take care of my own finances, not all support workers can be trusted, some abuse the system, i do my food shopping online too now.

Hello everyone i am a single guy born on jan.1-1984 i have lost my right hand from the rest and injured my right leg the femur part i am lebanese living in lebanon i feel like the wrong person in the wrong place here the lebanese gov. Doesnt really care about the 15% of lebanese citizen that live in lebanon instead of helping and giving then monthly benefits for example not $1000 but $500 at least they dont and our law 220/2000 is not applied yet so i dont have a rights to practice or enjoy like other disabiled people in other countries and i dont have my own apartment or place yet also am single and unable to have a girlfriend at least. Also in lebanon there are 102 org. But half of them are not legal the other half are theifes and take advantage of the disabilied but as the size of lebanon in my opinion we dont need 102 org. Its like they made it there job and all the money they recive or donations they go to there pockets and we dont get anything from it and have a feeling that those org. They dont want us to have a better future or get married one day and be indepandent so they want us to always be at our knees and ask them for help .. so i hope this message gets to everyone and i hope you guys could help me start an indepandant org. for example and try to build a big nice building to house and support about 100 guy and girl with disability also employ 150 lebanese guys and girls also that building the people also could benefit from it not just the disabiled thats why i am trying to design and draw an 8 level build in 2D and hopefully i get your help and support on that project please contact me by email or whatsapp alaa.mohieddine@gmail.com +01196176652728 whatsapp
I am Virginia i am 35 and i have a disabilities and i am staying with my mom to help me take care of business for me my Disabilites are cognitively delays i have a mental retardation but it's mild and a 10 year old child mind a learning problems but i can do something like. Play cards spades and bath myself put on clean clothes i know to keep my bedroom clean up and fold clean clothes put them in my dressier and use to know how ride a bike and searching the internet on a computer and if you wants little bit more about how i was in the hospital from being sick and twisted my right knee while sleeping at night and try to get up i couldn't walk it was so painful😢 now i am so amazing how god made a miracle for to walk again i am not independent i after my mom passed i have to stay somewhere in a group home or foster home

Well my council won't help with the house I live in shower walkway etc but if just found out that a obese man fat who eats 5 takeaway a day has just had 7 thousand pounds spent on his house how is it you got a disability that they say no but you fat and you get more rights people might say I'm bias but I have ask about this man and even his family say there's nothing wrong and it would help him if he got help to exercise so
every day we sob every day we sad every day disapoint without hopes that sun will...........
still i trust about the people in sri lanka that they help me to buy a block of land
if something wrong us does't need any thing every minute we fear what will be tomorrow
