There are many practical applications for "place" in training cats and dogs. By creating a positive "place," they will happily go to it when you request. With GB, I started with a mat, which is portable, so we can practice it in different locations. When I cook, he goes to his mat in his cart instead of the countertops, and when I work, he goes to his mat in another cart in my office, instead of constantly asking for pets.
I monitor GB's weight as he gets treats for training, and I don't want him to put on unnecessary weight. I used the "Place" training to teach him to get on the scale willingly. It's so much easier and more pleasant when an animal does things willingly, instead of making him do it.

I’ve yet to have me a ginger kitty, but I’ve got a pretty intelligent tuxedo boy that I need to do this with. He’s got all his puzzles figured out the day I buy them, like, jeez mom these were for babies!! 😂❤. Thanks for all your wonderful work and helpful tips!

Everyone says orange cats "Only have one brain cell". No they don't, but often (Especially orange males) have a very strong will, and what you want is not what they want to do.
If you create the right reward/positive reinforcement training, they will do what you want. Well it's a cat, it will do it sometimes.
They also love to play, and have a silly streak, and folks think that behavior is "dumb".
Not dumb, just wanna play often, and silly over dramatic energy may seem to be "stupid". They aren't.
GB seems to be a nice, playful, smart boy.
