Thanks for making and posting this most useful and informative video! Well done! And makes one wonder why all manufacturers don't put the transmission information on the plate, especially when more than one transmission is used in a particular model.
This was great. I neede this code for oil and filter change. My local toyota dealership wanted to charge me $125 just to find it in their computer, but it was in plain sight in the sticker like he said. Thank you!
hi prof kelly.i 'm one of you channel viewer and i 've followed you since 2 years ago ,i wanted to say that most of your video have introducing content and is about how the mechanism work and about the principle that there is between components, though i admit that these are very very important and i really appreciate for your effort with all respect i wanna ask you to make videos about diagnosic and common error and problem in auto trans that you are working on.forgive me please if this comment gets to long. wish all the best for you.
WeberAuto thanks alot sir for answering quickly.as so you know recognition and cognition an auto trans and its mechanism is only a clause of diagnosic and repair process and the other part is all the cause and reason of an error ,i mean what a customer is complaining for.
Really enjoyed watching the transmission build videos. I looked at my 2016 Rav4 hybrid (2 wheel drive) and there's no certification label, so I called the dealer and they told me that's not unusual. They informed me that they could order a label, but that I'd have to pay for it, so I asked if they knew which transaxle model my car contained and they told me the that only way to find out would be to order the label and then see what's written on it :-)
Sorry to hear that. Every vehicle comes with that label. If it is missing I would be suspicious of previous body or paint work. There is only one transmission that came in that vehicle. The 2016 RAV4 Hybrid came with the P314 Transaxle
@@WeberAuto A very big 'hello' from sunny Scotland and a huge thank you, good Sir; all most appreciated! I have an amusing ending to the story (and I'l get to that) but firstly, I'd like to thank you so much for making these wonderful and massively educational programmes. Yes, I’m am a ‘techy’, but I used to reside in the radio and telecommunications zones, so I really am seriously enjoying learning lots of ‘new stuff’ (outside of my own field) from your seriously cool productions; they're absolutely wonderful, to say the very least! So, onto the amusing ending I'd mentioned: As I’d noted before, I'd called the service department at my local dealership (who sold me the 14,000 mile - one previous owner - Rav4; it’s in pristine condition, so the missing label is really rather mysterious) and they told me that I’d have to order a new Certification Label to find out which xaxle it had within it). Just for some fun, I then asked Toyota UK (via their Interweb form type thingy) and just a few hours later, the same local dealer called me back. This time, I think that it was their service dep’t manager and he was surprisingly eager to help. We had a great chat and after me profusely apologising for spoiling his busy day, I explained that I was simply enjoying your great videos (not trying to get into the 3rd party Toyota servicing business) and that I just wanted to know which variant I'd bought, so he happily looked up my vehicle (on their database) and yes, he confirmed that it was indeed the P314 Transaxle. I had suspected that from what you'd discussed, but it was very nice to have it confirmed (now confirmed twice, in fact)! :-) Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to compose these wonderfully enjoyable (and wonderfully educational) productions. I have forwarded links to some of my 'radio' friends (mostly workers or lecturers in all that dodgy electromagnetic nefariousness type business) and I know for sure that they will also massively enjoy your productions! All the best from Edinburgh! Briain (radio ham ID: GM8PKL)
A godsend! Thank you for helping me realize my mistake in thinking I could simply swap my 03 camry 1MZ A/T into a 2001 Avalon 1MZ A/T. I was going to just swap the intakes and engine harnesses, but the avalon has a 541 (physical kickdown cable) trans and the camry has the U15 one (full electronic?)
After "Made in Japan" there's a 3 digit# followed by a capital letter at the end. I noticed it's different across the majority of the lexus cars. What is that for? Thanks in advance!
Hi John, love your video's awesome as always, question for you, one of the Solenoid in my Lexus GS 350 RW 6AT has gone bad error code P2757. Dealer suggests replacing transmission, local mechanic suggests replacing just the solenoid, would you be kind enough to do a video on solenoid and perhaps showing how to replace them in a Lexus Toyota ASIN transmission. Thanks in advance and best wishes
Thank you very much! It is unlikely the very expensive solenoid will fix the problem on your Aisin transmission. There are two fixes for this issue. 1. replace the transmission. 2. Replace or repair the valve body. Sonnax sells a "Zip Kit" for the repair. The valves wear out in their sleeves from being pulse-width modulated over a long period of time. If the valve body does not fix the problem, it will need a torque converter. Best wishes!
You have awsome vid's. Very clear and easy to follow. Have you ever done a Vid on a 2007 Lexus IS350 transmission, rear wheel drive? If so where can i find that link? thank you! Jeff Mooresville NC
Hello John, in the late fall of 2017 we received a recall for a new transmission in my wife's 2010 Lexus HS250h. In the spring of 2018 we scheduled to have the recalls addressed with the local Lexus dealer where they did in fact replace the P311 transmission with a new unit. My question is, what could be so bad that Lexus would issue a recall for a eight year old car that would replace the transmission? Do you have any insight on why the P311 was replaced at no charge under recall?
According to the recall notice "A manufacturing issue in an electric motor in the involved vehicle’s hybrid drivetrain may cause components to wear, leading to a potential short circuit. Under specific conditions, the hybrid system could shut down. While power steering and braking assist will function normally, a hybrid system shut down while driving at higher speeds could increase the risk of a crash."
Hello Mr John, I'm writing you from Germany. On my Lexus gs450h is says L110. I want to know how that transmission works but I don't seem to find any data for that transmission and I wanted to ask if it is any similar with a video you have made about a transmission in another Toyota / Lexus. Thanks
Good day.. I have a Toyota Tundra 2008 2wd v6 and the Transmission is the A03A/A750E, will the A01A/A750E fit on my truck or am I gonna have to replace anything on the transmission?
So once you find those letters and numbers, how do you find out what they mean? I’m trying to find out if my transmission is the 6 speed or 8 speed automatic transmission in my 2019 Camry. Or could it possibly be a CVT transmission? Not a car guy.
I realize this isn't the right video but is there any progress on the Android app for vibration analysis. Last I heard in the fall the developer was working on it but I haven't heard since then. It could really come in handy chasing down a phantom vibration.
Good question. My developer went back to school to get his master's degree in computer science. He is on summer break now and is working on it now. He hopes to have it completed in a month or so. Sorry for the delay.
Patrick Rich . I was thinking there might be compatibility issues I had to get a older Android version for my launch idiag scantool. After several upgrades the app stopped functioning completely with just a error. way more difficult to catering for Android versions.
I'm sorry but I have to say this video is incorrect and could be misleading for many people. First of all the Prius isn't the only car Toyota makes and the P series transmission isn't the only one they make either. What I'm saying is you need to include more examples. I own a 1995 Toyota Hilux which is a carburetted vehicle and isn't really that old it's like what close to 25 years so still fairly recent. This video 100% doesn't work for this car. For starters that sticker doesn't exist they didn't use them in the 90's to early 2000's. Instead the car has a steel plaque located in the engine bay usually on the firewall. On that under the cars VIN there is a section labled Trans/ Axel and that's where mine is stamped G52. Considering the huge number of old Toyota's still getting around in the world you cannot make the claim "this works for all Toyota's" when it 100% doesn't you are wrong. Example the 1980 Toyota Hilux doesn't even have a plaque you can only identify the transmission by counting the bolt pattern on the sump.
Super helpful! Thank you for making these videos for the rest of us to learn from!
Outstanding automotive channel. I recommend it to all my auto friends
Thank you very much!
this Chanel is top notch on information the professor is amazing
Very helpful. Had to pass this info onto the dealership because they could not identify my transmission.
