It was reported that the Warwick Foundation was operating at over 90% administrative cost, donating only about 3% of the money it raised to AIDS groups. Several AIDS groups and nonprofit experts criticized her foundation, including an AIDS group in the Virgin Islands that claimed she nearly bankrupted them after extravagant expenses left nothing for local charities.
Spiritual successor to 1985's "That's What Friends Are For" is 1999's "The Best Man I Can Be". '85, Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight & Stevie Wonder. '99, Ginuwine, RL, Case & Tyrese. "That's What Friends Are For" written and produced by RIP Burt Bacharach & Carole Sager. "The Best Man I Can Be" written and produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Miss Dionne was Burt Bacharach's muse, Janet Jackson was Jimmy Jam's & Terry Lewis' muse.
I nearly requested this for December! Been dying for you to hear this stunningly subtle and beautiful song. The vocals on this track are so mellow and rich and gorgeous. Dionne, Stevie, Gladys and Elton, 4 of the warmest, richest voices in the world. The warmth between them is palpable too. Love them all but honestly if there’s a human being on Earth who isn’t elevated by Stevie Wonder’s vocals, and his spirit too, then I’d be checking if that human being was a robot. Written by masters of mellow musical romance, Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager (who were husband and wife). You’re so right that this song’s simple structure and sentimental lyrics could be ultra corny, but with these 4 artists playfully weaving their spells around one another’s voices, it becomes so much more. Like an oasis in a chaotic world. PS: I better drop my comment on Patreon for my December picks! I’m falling behind with my requests too!!!
I Love it How these Artists Came Together and did Collaborations of a Remarkable Song. This Gem will Never get Old and Still sounds as Brand New. The Lyrics are Hard to Come By In this Cold World.
You should check out Dionne & Stevie's other collaboration performance of this song with the GOATS Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston. Whitney was a cousin of Dionne Warwick. Whitney's mother, the gospel-trained vocalist, Cissy Houston, is an aunt of Dionne.
A real feel good song. A classic. Dionne said this was actually made to be a single for herself but became a single to raise charity for HIV/AIDS foundations. Now there is a lot of things about none of the money reaching the foundations.
This song was a big hit and such a great song! It raised money for her charity. However, there was some negative press regarding her “charity foundation”.
They just don’t make happy feel good songs like this anymore. I’m so sick of rap / hip-hop music of today, it’s so negative. Why can’t top 40 music of today sound like this anymore, sigh…….
I know it’s Dionne’s song but Miss Gladys is one of the most underrated vocalists of all time. So damn good. And she still sounds amazing to this day
Totally agree.
This was released as a charity single that raised millions for AIDS research in the 80s. 💜

Nice 🙂
Wow. Elton using the upper registry of his voice here with ease. They all sound fantastic! Old school singers not to be messed with.
💯💯
Elton’s voice isn’t the only thing that’s high.
@@ronnix23 It's pre-vocal cord surgery. Elton wasn't using while performing...yet.
This one is very special. The group of these STARS and the message.
This song was so big in the 80s it can hardly be measured!! Now it's reached Classic Status..
My favorite Dionne Warwick song is Heartbreaker, written by the Bee Gee's.
Found this song in Jan. '24!
🔥: 1987 Soul Train Awards. 🙌

You have impressed me. I have seen several reactions to this songs and almost always the reactors do not know Gladys Knight. Good job.
Respect to. The original Empress
What greatness sounds like when people make music for the sake of making great music
You hit the ground running in the new year E. Good for you. I expected nothing less. Cheers
Fire bop! Great classic, they are all friends for real.

No that is not Stevie Nicks. She's a marvel, but that is Stevie Wonder. Also a legend.
Just a feel good song period. 🙂

So, have you ever heard of Dionne Warwick and her Psychic Friends Network? 🔮
FYI this was a collaboration and NOT Dionne Warwicks' "song". Sounds like clever marketing from her team.
This was for all the current AIDS victim of that time
You can do better than that!
Dionne Warwick is Burt Bacharach's MUSE. Listen to her sing Alfie, Walk on By.....
