Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais wrote this masterpiece of British television. Both still alive into their mid 80s and apparently still writing. I’d love to see more of this fantastic series but without Bomber and Wayne it just wouldn’t be the same. Thank god for you tube because I still regularly watch it and often see the boom mic coming into shot but I still love it!
Loved this show when I first came across it, I was hooked..the actors,characters ,scripts,music,setting and 40 years on ...Respect to all who made this what it is..

I have to admit , it was a very emotional experience when he walked in with nobody having a clue he was there. The crowd went wild as you can imagine , and I just wish I started recording 30 seconds earlier
I remember when it first shown on the TV, i was 10 years old and i couldn’t pronounce wiedersehen, and I would say windowsheen and got mocked by my uncle Tommy. I recently re watched it again for about the 3rd time thanks to UA-cam. Great memories.

As I was walking into a local pub in South-east London I bumped into Timothy Spall (Barry) and I must of met him before but could not remember when? but his knew my name that was in the late 1990's when he lived in the area. My mum loved Kevin Whatley (Neville) and Tim Healy (Dennis) because she loved the accent and was married to a Geordie. YI PET.
Shame none of the other main cast appeared?. RIP Gary Holton (Wayne Norris) and Pat Roach (Brian "Bomber" Busbridge) and Michael Sheard (Herr Gerhardt Grünwald) you are missed. My favourite is Jimmy Nail (Oz). The program is still repeated on British television.
A friend of mine was a cameraman on the first and second series . He told me that the "Dusseldor"f building site in the first series became the Eastenders set .
as a bricklayer myself i often told this story to work mates back in the day i drank in the same pubs as jimmy in south gosforth even though we didnt know each other personally we had some mutual friends anyway one night we were getting a taxi into the toon when one of the lads said is it okay if jimmy joins us i said ok anyway a few weeks later one of the lads said to me can you remember jimmy who was out with us the other week i said aye he said hes just been for an audition to play a part as a brickie in a tv programne the rest is history
I knew Jimmy when he used to drink in the Mill stone in south gosforth before AWP he lived up the hill near the Bowery office my friends brother was his best man when he married Miriam
Yeah I know ... everyone expected the lights to go up with at least a spotlight..... and the sound was shite too. 🤷♂️.... that is the tragedy of this area , it is full of places like this that have no place in the techno world.

Brilliant show all the lads were great in their roles, strange to think it would not be made today with the woke brigade, remember watching every week and going into work and all the lads had watched, Thanks for all the Laughs
Well thank you for watching, but answer to that is no... any other videos online are worse . The sound generally was terrible ,, the lighting was terrible , and even us in the audience struggled to catch everything . I believe my video is the best as i didn't have anyone around me coughing and barking like an asthmatic pit pony. But thanks again for watching
Well, they kept checking the time cos it was approaching 9pm, and that was the time the 1st episode was aired, so that was the plan to coincide with what happened 40yrs ago. As fantastic that it was jimmy making this special appearance, It was slightly disappointing he didn't hang around after the show. He only turned up at the last second, as we were all in our seats, and when he walked in the crowd went absolutely wild,, I wish I got the camera rolling 30 seconds earlier than I did.

@Marilyn1960s ..well he's always been known to be notoriously difficult to work with , and that's from cast and crew.. . Yes on the stage and on camera he seems down to earth but it's not all it seems. I'm friends with a number of the awp cast and it's no secret that things aren't all together tickerty boo, . At the main 40th Anniversary show in May this year Jimmy ruled how the show was run , and who was allowed where . In the circles that count , Eyes were rolled when it was said that Jimmy was " in charge " . He was not allowing any fans outside cast and crew to the aftershow party , even tho he wasn't there , but as a number of the cast know, I am a massive fan and they said I deserved to be there , so I did get into the aftershow party thanks to them . But Jimmy has nothing to do with the fans and is quite rude , refusing selfies and autographs. It's a real shame he's not like Oz.
Its a shame Jimmy Nail prefers not to interact with the fans much. anyone wanting an autograph or ask him something on his way out he's off like a shot. ive heard a lot of people say they were disappointed with how he will usually avoid people rather than have a little chat. on the other hand ive heard that Tim Healey is the exact opposite and is happy talk to people on the street. they say he's a very friendly bloke. Jimmy could do with a bit of coaching in PR.

The official awp admin say they've got more to come to celebrate the 40 years , but they're not letting on what yet. It's highly unlikely Jimmy would be there tho. Keep an eye on the official auf wiedersehen pet Facebook group for any announcements.

Mr Nail is a bit like John Wayne it dosent matter what he is doing its OZ He is not a great actor but he has something ? and that is OZ if you look at other actors such as timothy spall you have Talent and an actor who can act any part Big Difference
Lol... they did say at the audition for awp there was this crude rough fella in reception ,, and dick and Ian said yeah he'll be perfect for Oz .. even tho he only went there to be an extra.
As for specials, another series etc...the lads are as Oz said ... finished ... its the end . It ended correctly, the 3 of them doing full circle and heading back to Germany. Hope of any more ,,,?,, it simply won't happen. We'll just look forward to the stage reunion in May 2024.
@@daniellancaster4419 weirdly i had no clue of the 40th reunion and have been watching the box sets again.. the part (series 3) bomber was sat on the steps and dennis walks up and asks if he is ok..i think that dialogue from bomber was his way telling the fans his times up..probally only time he has spoken longer in any of the series..touching moment....i respect the writting and acting..there will truely be no other..it will go down in history as the best british tv series..
