Turn of the Century, on this album, is the most heart touching song ever, IMO. If you think upon the ones you love during it, you WILL get emotional. Steve, Jon and Rick combine to tear hearts apart. Hope you do it soon. Nice reaction on GFTO! Peace.
I love this track because it's almost like someone said, "what would happen if Yes tried to do a Chuck Berry style tune?" It has that type of DNA but it skews so Yessly that it's a delight for the senses with oodles of surprises.
Steve Howe played a Fender pedal steel on this; that's how he could get such high notes in the solos. The album also marked the return of Rick Wakeman into the fold and he's doing all kinds interesting things throughout the song. Jon Anderson's voice had gotten higher pitched between 1974 and 1977, which is amazing, considering most singers voices get lower in pitch as they age. Chris Squire holds the whole thing together along with his battery mate, Alan White, may God rest their souls. Great reaction, L33. I always look forward to YESSATURDAY!
He is so talented man. He uses so many different acoustics and different bodied guitars. He likes to play around. He reminds me of my dad... who had like 10. 12 string acoustics and 12 string electrics He was amazing lol. I miss him.
I saw them play this live in 1977 here in Nashville. It was the opening number. I seem to remember at the end of the song Steve Howe's pedal steel was on wheels and he scooted it around the stage a little bit.
The pedal steel is an instrument that can convey such emotion when used well. I can’t understand why we do not hear it more often in rock. It’s always a treat when Steve uses it

@@L33Reacts Great! I highly recommend you read the lyrics first for Turn of the Century. Jon recently celebrated his 79th birthday. You may want to check out The Friends of Mr. Cairo that he did with Vangelis. Title track is special and some other great tunes. Also worth checking out Brother of Mine from Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe.
I think Yes really are a revolving door of great musicians, doing whatever they can do to express their talents through the art of music, I think their wallets thanked them as well. The key thing here is, they did it with unmitigated style. Thanks for the review.
This was my wife's first concert! She sat there stunned, between the music, laser light show and the heavy haze ahe got introduced to a rock concert like no other. This and 90125 was probably there most commercial work. Live it had a bit more progressive bit included. Yea it was a Rick Bass. She saw Yes, Moody Blues, and CSN all in three weeks, quite. the introduction to rock concerts. Listen to more there isn't any bad Yes! Lmqo

@@L33Reacts I suggest you find a live on stage version of AWAKEN to watch. Plenty to chose from. I won't tell you which one because it will upset someone who likes a different version.👍😎
Yes, Rick returned for this Album, which as you say, does of course, feature ‘Awaken’. As said elsewhere on here, you cannot leave this Album, without hearing the stunningly beautiful, ‘Turn Of The Century’. And for another Classic short track, ‘Wondrous Stories’ too. Haven’t you still to do a few big Classics from, ‘The Yes Album’ too. 🎶❤️🎶
Love your channel… you’ve been doing a lot of Yes… one of my most favorite bands for most of my life, and Band Maid, my favorite current band, bar-none. This album is the last masterpiece from the classic era of Yes (yeah, this is the album with Awaken). Steve Howe is brilliant on steel guitar, isn’t he? Brings back memories…
Wow thank you so much Dave! I really appreciate the kind word it really does mean a lot 😁 yeah I am deep into both bands right now... great music left and right. I am getting spoiled at this point 😅🤣
I hope your feeling better with your life, it’s good to have plenty women in your life, they are a True Blessing. Last Thursday Evening my Sweet Sister Dorothy got in a head on collision outside of New Orleans & while her brain, lung & heart were not injured, she broke her r/ femur & shattered her pelvis but after a week she’s doing incredibly well, please keep my incredibly sweet sister in your Thoughts & Prayers. Thanks you, PEACE & LOVE to ALL.
I am so sorry that happened that is terrible. I will keep her in my prayers for sure. But I'm glad to hear that she is doing well. Thank you for watching my friend.
GFTO is SUCH a RRRRUSH emotionally and motivationally does what it intends to do thematically! BUT YES in this era ALWAYS did what was necessary with PERFECTION even TOPOGRAPHIC is PERFECT 👌 NO EDITING NEEDED! This album came after RELAYER with the return of Wakeman and shorter epics other than the grand finale masterpiece AWAKEN. Steve plays the Steel Petal guitar here throughout
Ah Lee, so sorry you lost your Dad when you were young. So tough. Great to share your happiness reacting to all the best music ever. Keep going! 🏴
Thank you Gil I appreciate the kind words. It has definitely been tough. Even tougher now that I'm a dad. But life happens. I definitely will thank you Gil 😊
On Tales, when they created the 4 songs, initially each song was at very different track lengths, but they were too long in total to fit onto 1 vinyl record, but too short in total for a double album. They had a tour scheduled and had to get the album done, so they rushed through filling each song out. Usually they composed and recorded each song very carefully and took their time, but they were forced into padding it and rushing through the extra stuff. Regardless, I think it worked out great anyway, amazing album. However Going For The One is my fave album, every song is perfect.
This album was my xmas present to my brothers when it was published. I was ten years old. There’s something melancholically far away in the use of the reverb effect on the steel guitar in the second part of this song, which recalls me some parts of And you and I… Two songs from this album stand out in my opinion: wond’rous stories and parallels I think Parallels was recorded in a church in Switzerland, where the band found a wonderful organ Rick played in that song
Yes! Different but still top tier Yes. Not one even mediocre song here. Take a minute to pull up those lyrics. Next, Turn of the Century, Parallels ( a Squire driven ride!), Wonderous Stories remain. You already did the ultimate masterpiece of Awaken. I will always look forward to Yes Saturday!
Appreciate you came back to this album Lee. You'll like Wonderous Stories. Its kind of a segway into Awken, and i know you've already done that one. I REALLY suggest doing a live version of Awaken in place of it being your first listen. Sadly, there are no professional recordings of it from the 70s on here.
Going for the One is a GREAT album. Awaken us one of their best.Wakeman's best!Turn of the Century and Wonderous stories are Jon at his most beautiful...
Awaken was like the second or third yes tracks I ever heard. I honestly wish I hadn't heard it yet. My first listen (if it was next week) would have been nuts lol. Alas. Here we are 🙃
This is the album after RELAYER, and Rick Wakeman returned to Yes. This is a GREAT album. Turn of the Century, Parallels, Wonderous Stories and Awaken. You will love it.
I agree.....Oceans was very deliberate....this song and the album is very precise to the point!!! This song is the opening song on the album and "Awaken" is the altro song of the album!!! and thank you for answering my request. The next song Turn of The Century is a romantic Love song of a famous Sculptor Rodin which get anyone very emotional...It is about the most Beautiful song Yes has ever composed!!! Look Out!!!It will be your favorite!!!
Hey Anthony good to see you bro. Glad you enjoyed it! I finally got to it 🙌 yeah I enjoy how concise and energetic this song was. Perfect intro song! I'm gonna do turn of the century next week. I'll have the tissues ready lol. Thanks for watching as always bro 🙏
Yeah,👍👍 why not listen to more of this album. There's still a lot of good music on this album. Turn of the Century is a great song. The music was written by Alan White I believe
Oh shit you mean "Colors" by between the buried and me! Oops. They have listed Yes as an influence, so it tracks that they might have influenced the album cover
Yes, do the whole album, absolutely. It belongs with the masterworks, from beginning to end. You did do Awaken already. Did you do Turn of the Century? Anyway, yes, yes, Yes.
yeah bro another yes, thanks man! And yeah this one is with Rick Wakeman again. Totally agree with you on his soundscapes. Rick, Vangelis, Michael Stearns and Jean Michel Jarre , all 70's 80's keyboardists never rivalled in sound ever since. I think it's because today's musi format is too compressed and short to actually exploit the keyboards full potential for moods, interludes and dreamy or psychedelic soundscapes. But still it's a very underused instrument
Continue with the album! There is still a lot of great music to explore on it. Another suggestion I have is "America", Yes's proggy cover rendition of a classic Paul Simon tune but "Yesified" You'll see what I mean if you listen to it. 😄
@@L33Reacts I think you mentioned in this video that Yes is really versatile. I think this Going for the One album strongly demonstrates that versatility and variety in their output. The songs vary widely in style.
At this point I would like to suggest two other “simple but energetic” songs from Yes: "Tempus Fugit" (from the album "Drama". Be careful! With the "Buggles" replacing Anderson and Wakeman) ua-cam.com/video/vzxZzIiO84Y/v-deo.html "I'm Running" (from the album "Big Generator". Trevor Rabin plays guitar) ua-cam.com/video/GFdkr2_UKgA/v-deo.html ... sorry, another suggestion; Trevore Rabin just comes to mind. He just released a new solo album ("Rio"). My favorite song from the album is the song “Push”. ua-cam.com/video/udpVPB223O0/v-deo.html Absolutely worth listening to!
Overall production is, IMO, the best of classic era Yes, certainly superior in every respect to Topographic. There is clean space between all the instruments and voices (except maybe in the long repeated section before the coda); Chris is playing a Rickenbacker, but it's an 8-string (a prototype at the time, which comes back on Awaken - don't let anyone tell you he played the Wem triple-neck on the album itself!), but as a drummer I think you should also re-listen to Alan's snare throughout - both lazy AND moving.along
I don't know if you heard about this or not, but in 1973 when Rick was getting bored with the recording sessions for Tales from Topographic Oceans, he went down the hall and sat in with Black Sabbath's recording session for their album Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. He ended up playing the piano for the song 'Sabbra Cadabra' and almost joined Sabbath. It's a great song. You should check it out!
This is great live, I've seen and heard it. They kicked Patrick Moraz out of the band during the early stages of this album and brought Wakeman back in.

Thank you for reviewing this particular song. This made my day. Why has a harder country band not covered this song?
Thanks Brian I am so glad I could make your day a little better! Thank you for watching 😁
The Caped Curry Savior.
Lmqo
I bet she was absolutely blown away 😳 I know I would have been! I wish I could have seen them live back in the day SO badly. I am a cult member now and I can't even see the cult leader :(
Actually they are on tour this year
Roger Dean is usually with them as well. He is one cool dude and like us a big fan of Yes.
Awaken will absolutely blow you away....it is a stunner...left me in tears the first time I heard it as a collegiate punk back in 1977.
Unfortunately it already has! It was like my second yes song on here... I wish I could relisten to it because I probably didn't appreciate it as much as I would now. But here we are lol. It's In my Yes Playlist at the very bottom
@@L33Reacts I suggest you find a live on stage version of AWAKEN to watch. Plenty to chose from. I won't tell you which one because it will upset someone who likes a different version.👍😎
Every song on this album is a gem, all different, but all great.
I love this song it being me back to summers in the 70’s hanging with my 2 best friends smoking a bit and just drifting away to this whole album.
More from this album , please, love your reactions, blessings, brother.
Thank you so much bro I appreciate you 🙏 turn of the century next week!
Turn Of The Century is a masterpiece.Going For One the album,is a masterpiece.
Really good album which does have Awaken, Turn of The Century, and Wondrous Stories !Much more enthusiasm in this album than the long winded Tales!
Lee, Rick is a pretty humble guy. He is a bit of a stand up comedian. Check out his Induction to the RR Hall of Fame speech.
I might watch it and record my reaction to it lol I'll look into it :)
I bet he is a nice dude. Usually only nice people wear capes. I think? Lol
Love this song!! Great reaction, like always. ♥🎼🎸🎹🥁🎤🎶🎶
Thank you Renne 😊 I'm so glad you enjoyed it :) this really was a good song. Definitely a change up from the stuff we have been doing
😃
Check out Minstrel in the Gallery by Jethro Tull or Nantucket Sleighride by Mountain.
This album was my xmas present to my brothers when it was published. I was ten years old.
There’s something melancholically far away in the use of the reverb effect on the steel guitar in the second part of this song, which recalls me some parts of And you and I…
Two songs from this album stand out in my opinion: wond’rous stories and parallels
I think Parallels was recorded in a church in Switzerland, where the band found a wonderful organ Rick played in that song
TURN OF THE CENTURY !!!
Next week my friend! See you there 👍 😉
If you like that more direct, let’s get into it type of song I strongly recommend Parallels from the same album.
Turn of the century is next week! Thank you so much bro I am so glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Appreciate you came back to this album Lee.
Alas. Here we are 🙃
Good reaction to a great song, let's rock🤘🤘
😮😮keep doing this
Don't you worry Fernando. Yessaturday is an ongoing affair ;)
Only 5 tracks on this album (and yes, Awaken is the album closer) but all of them are excellent 👍
Definitely check out the next song on the album, "Turn of the Century"!
Next Saturday will be Turn of the Century :)
@L33Reacts one of my favorites. Brings me to tears nearly every time. Bring your kleenex! Lol
A future Yes suggestion: Fly From Here (Return Trip). The Return Trip version is important for a headlong dive down a deep rabbit hole.
This is the album after RELAYER, and Rick Wakeman returned to Yes. This is a GREAT album. Turn of the Century, Parallels, Wonderous Stories and Awaken. You will love it.
Turn of the century is next week! Can't wait to hear it. Everyone has been saying good things about it
@@L33Reactsone of their most beautiful songs
Now Owner of a Lonely heart for another atypical, but great Yes track. 🎉
After the next album Tormato. Not my favorite but some love it..
Amazing reaction as usual
Best band ever ¡
Great song, and a great opener for the album.
I agree! It's a perfect opener! It's all climax haha I love it 😀
I am content with YesSaturdays. But have time for more.
I wish I had more time too! ⏲️ 🤣🤣
Yeah,👍👍 why not listen to more of this album. There's still a lot of good music on this album. Turn of the Century is a great song. The music was written by Alan White I believe
Turn of the century is next week! :)
Notice the gatefold (album cover) behind you seems to have actually taken it's inspiration from the Going for the One art!
The album behind me in thumbnail is "Blurryface" by 21 pilots :)
Oh shit you mean "Colors" by between the buried and me! Oops. They have listed Yes as an influence, so it tracks that they might have influenced the album cover
3 panel gatefold !!!!
@@L33Reacts Aha, nevertheless it sure is similar no matter who's cover it is!
They "went for it" on this one.
Yes, do the whole album, absolutely. It belongs with the masterworks, from beginning to end. You did do Awaken already. Did you do Turn of the Century? Anyway, yes, yes, Yes.
Oooo don't worry I'm gonna do the whole album at this point, everyone seems to love it lol. Turn of the century is next week :)
Parallels sooo good too off this album , but Awaken dude OMG !!! Very very close to the top of their game 😀
yeah bro another yes, thanks man!
I will be doing turn of the century next week and then maybe another song from this album :)
@@L33Reacts I think you mentioned in this video that Yes is really versatile. I think this Going for the One album strongly demonstrates that versatility and variety in their output. The songs vary widely in style.
At this point I would like to suggest two other “simple but energetic” songs from Yes:
"Tempus Fugit" (from the album "Drama". Be careful! With the "Buggles" replacing Anderson and Wakeman)
ua-cam.com/video/vzxZzIiO84Y/v-deo.html
"I'm Running" (from the album "Big Generator". Trevor Rabin plays guitar)
ua-cam.com/video/GFdkr2_UKgA/v-deo.html
... sorry, another suggestion; Trevore Rabin just comes to mind. He just released a new solo album ("Rio"). My favorite song from the album is the song “Push”.
ua-cam.com/video/udpVPB223O0/v-deo.html
Absolutely worth listening to!
100%agree on Tales. Look into Phil Manzanera Diamond Head. Classic Guitar, top drawer musicians.
Whaaaat no way. I've heard that song but it was a cover by Metallica. But I will definitely check the original out :)
This is great live, I've seen and heard it. They kicked Patrick Moraz out of the band during the early stages of this album and brought Wakeman back in.
I love Rick Wakeman, for me best song on that album is Parallel.
Machine Messiah , tempus figuit , fish out of water lucky 7 by squire.
