Sir IMA is taking issue with people prescribing medicine. It is not IMA’s job to fight against misleading ads in general.
Although, your point that misleading ads should be regulated is absolutely right - you should consider leading the charge. You should get in touch with your local MLA, MP or even the consumer affairs ministry. If none of that works, you should consider filing a PIL too.

Misleading ads - fairness creams ,all cricket betting application,Energy drinks , Horlicks and other drinks , Even should ban all roadside Neem hakeem, Hair regrowth advertisement, advertisement stating noodles are healthy, recent kingfisher ad where they are clearly advertising beer but showing mineral water..
So honourable SC should also take a suo motu against these companies as well ..
Sir one is selling medicine that claims to cure diseases like diabetes, hypertension and what not. False medicine that has questionable benefits at best and severe side effects at worst leaving you worse off fighting life and death.
The other is a matter of how much sugar is there an energy drink, whether a cosmetic cream works or not, or whether those instant noodles actually have the nutrients they promised.
While misleading ads in general also need better legal remedies, the stakes, you will appreciate, are vastly different. That’s why modern medicine jumps through a hundred hoops over decades to bring a drug to market compared to instant noodles that you can bring to market next week.
So when a criminal baba ask you to trust them and their Ayurvedic knowledge blindly to cure your diabetes or constipation or hypertension or for that matter your cancer too, understand that the risks are far more serious matter than cricket betting apps.
In terms of govt priorities, Public health is typically right up there with national security.
And you are free to file a writ petition challenging misleading ads in the Supreme Court as well. Courts adjudicate matters that are brought to them. Suo moto powers don’t work like that although it may sound like that.

No sir there is a difference. One is a place where everything is regulated and there are some really harsh consequences flouting those norms (modern medicine).
And then there is another where there is no regulation to distinguish a charlatan from a sage. Coronil was endorsed by GoI and many cabinet ministers while there was no backing that it did anything to treat covid. So much so that after all the publicity and photo ops, when the questions became too inconvenient, the silently withdrew it. The level at which Patanjali fools its patrons is legendary and coronil is only the tip of the iceberg. I know folks who lost their lives during the pandemic because they were on coronil for 2 weeks instead of going to the hospital. When they finally did, it was too late.
All societies have bad eggs. We make rules and laws to deal with them. So little by little, there is no brazen attack on public health nor any daylight robbery. As a consumer of health services mafia hospitals and pill peddlers are far more likely to actually fix your health problems. Ayurveda charlatans will just part you with your money while you marvel at the placebo healing they encourage you to attribute to Ayurveda.
Two wrongs don't make one right. The core issue is - does one have evidence to support the claims. It is about practicing evidence based medicine which applies to all pathies. And nobody is above law. If there are malpractice by allopathic doctors and hospitals, expose them as well. 🙂

Because we don't have an option with public hospitals, its kind of their monopoly now, only affordable for the rich or with insurance, even then the cost of latest surgeries and treatment is actually cheaper if you compare with hospitals in the US for the same disease, its called "medical tourism". Corporate hospitals are a business, each headed by a MBA qualified manager, meant for profit, owned by rich people who built hospitals since there weren't options even for them. Before corporate hospitals, many diseases weren't even treatable in our country, people had to travel to US/Europe.
Now, have you been to a govt. PHC or a CHC? Who's responsible for such condition of govt hospitals in the country? Do we as a people demand our govt spend more on healthcare? Instead we're promoting AYUSH!

My mother is totally brainwashed by Ramdev and insisted on getting some kind of treatment in Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogapith Haridwar. She was on a no salt diet and was given the treatment of drinking water early morning and vomiting which resulted in blood coming out from her mouth and extreme breathing difficulty. She had a severe paralysis attack and was hospitalized in the nick of time in another hospital around 10kms away.
In all of this, Patanjali staff left us at the hospital and vanished. No one contacted us after that, our several attempts to reach them were futile including visiting Patanjali office and contacting CEO through social media. They have completely washed off their responsibilities in this regard. Through a friend we finally managed to escalate the matter to Ramdev and he met us and did not bother to apologise for the mistreatment and callousness on their part. This utter nonsense in the name of advertisement should stop !
This a matter of life and death and how does the government/courts putting a blind eye to it.
Same thing happened with my uncle. He stopped all blood pressure medication and started taking a concoction of garlic , amla and shit. His BP became uncontrollable and got paralysis. He is suffering for past 4 months to get out of it. Started walking and speaking but one hand is not usable. His quality of life is gone. These motherfuckers are killing people in the name of traditions and 2000 year old "science".
Advertisement could be misleading. however, Patanjali and Ramdev have revolutionized yoga. It is unfortunate what happenedtoyour mother. But there are multiple such scenarios of allopathetic doctors as well who have even cut up people and stole organs. We can't demonize a single company. I guess senir citizens should approach aurvedic treatment with caution. but I do not buy the argument that Ayurveda is a scam
i too went to Patanjali Centre and my experience was good, there were good diet proper yoga periods and staff was good (indeed not expecting hospitality of 5 star) stop being a typical a____le and hater i know you live in south Delhi and people like you belong to morning nagar nigam carts...

Apart from Patanjali, there are thousands of so called specialists from allopathy, homeopathy, naturopathy, Accupressure, etc. who have chains of clinics in several cities. They are also advertising heavily and regularly in newspapers, tv, radio, internet etc and claim to offer cure or very effective, hi-tech treatments for chronic, incurable conditions like diabetes, heart disease, eyes, dental problems , cough, , back and neck pains, thyroid, cancer. neurological conditions such as Parkinson's, epilepsy, stroke , sex and fertility issues, etc.
These folks also need to be booked.
It is said that a medical practitioner and institutions, by law, cannot advertise. Then why this advertising has been going on for several decades ?

Only the government can provide free healthcare with taxpayer money, even doctors have to earn a living sir, they've to pay their staff also. World class medical treatment is still very cheap in India as compared to developed countries. Corporate hospitals have to be profitable to stay in business, they exist because there is a market demand they fulfil. Also, we can take legal action against malpractices, which also happens often. If you want free healthcare like UK, you've to ask Govt.

Allopaths want a monopoly on the Indian Healthcare market worth Billions of Dollars.
But, unfortunately, the allopaths are concentrated in urban centres only.
And most of the Allopaths across the country are falling into this trap of Multinational Drug Companies.
None of these Allopaths do not prescribe the Medicines by the generic names and instead prescribe brands getting gifts in return.
And less we talk of the Surgeons, the better.
The allopaths need to be less arrogant, less corrupt and retain morality.
You are always free to go to generic medical stores and get same medicine.They know the content of brand,they will give you same medicine.By the way be informed that there is no govt or fda licence to some companies making generic medicines, some companies are also caught them being made at godowns. If u have time, take any generic medicine,see manufacturing address and visit facility. Medicine save lives, don't compromise on quality for some money. I know u will not believe this because of general sentiment,but it's a fact.

In India, corona deaths were few because of better immunity. This is true with all underdeveloped Asian and African countries. Affluent countries suffered more because of lesser immunity due to faulty lifestyle.

My father, 94 now, was advised brain surgery by a Neuro-Surgeon in a corporate hospital in 2013 for trying to fleece us by around a million rupees.
He was diagnosed with subdural haemotoma and later Hygroma.
He was completely cured by Baba Ram Dev's Patanjali by some inexpensive medicines and by some Yoga Asanas.
Grateful to Baba, to Patanjali and to Indian wholistic system of medicines for not only saving the life of my old father but saving us a fortune.
No sane doctor should recommend brain surgery at the age of 94. Any kind of surgery that involves anaesthesia at that age can kill you anyways.

Some patients get cured even with only prayers. It's difficult for non medical people to understand that human body is not a machine, all bodies do not react same way to medicine or surgery. Each person's healing capacity is different.U just cannot replace a screw or a nut and guarantee that it's good as new. Doctors can only predict. Yes some are corrupt no doubt, but if u generalise and get prejudiced, u may end up losing life. We too can give several examples of patients worsening after ayurvedic treatment and then cured by allopathy. But there is no need. We don't need to advertise and justify our work.Saving life is important, which pathy doesn't matter.

Whatever the dispute but it is sure that , Patanjali head Baba Ramdeo showed that Aayurved is a good result oriented alternative medicine system . One may or may not agree but Aayurvedic practices controlled much of the devastation during China Wuhan pandemic . Honest question - You or I can claim whatever we want, but do you think it's all right for any medic to claim that their cure works for a new disease without any proof? Just saying that it's based on ancestral medicine doesn't mean they cannot test the recipes in modern day clinical studies.

There can be arguments from both sides, but at that time treatment for corona was not in the reach of common people at all. Barring really emergency kind of situation coronil kit was working well when compared to dolo 650 or whatever.
One thing against allopathy is that it has a lot of tests to be done and its really costly. The tablets of allopathy also have a lot of side effects which is not mentioned to the patients at all. Like i know a person who took 1 or 2 more ibuprofen and has ended up as a kidney patient and is on dialysis. Have anybody banned ibuprofen or has any awareness been spread about side effects. It pains us to see the person suffering. I see this as just a battle of "egos".
One thing against ayurveda is that they are not united and organised there are many ayurvedic practitioners who dont care about what is the case the other is facing.
There was no medicine then nor is there one now for the treatment of corona. I have relatives in the US and the UK who were really surprised that medicines like remedisvir or ivermectin or other drugs were prescribed by allopathy doctors; these names were posted on the website of Kolkata Municipal Corporation for example. Even the serious harmful effects of the vaccine are the subject matter of discussion in medical journals. What does one have to say about that. There is no medicine against common cold yet many drug companies have some kind of medicine or ointment for the treatment of cold. Lots of people go to doctors with their medical problems. The doctor prescribes a L bunch of medicines and then changes it when it does not work. In many cases it goes on and on without a cure. Then you change the doctor, go through another series of tests and are again prescribed a new combination of drugs. In many cases the cure is elusive. Again, what about drugs that were taken for decades and then banned for their seriously harmful effects.

This guy don’t remember that in second wave ppl were not reaching to hospital not because they were believing on coronil but because hospitals were not available. Ppl were taking allopathic and Ayurvedic both sort of medicine through prescriptions which were reaching to them through WhatsApp. Do you know a patient takes meftal p and if he is viral infected, this can damage lever so badly.
Using that situation to blame patanjali is also not right. Have not seen adds of disprin, Crocin, etc. doesn’t this look so biased opinion. Actually there's merit in traditional methods too, that too without side effects as against english medicine, which is capable of some immediate reliefs but has negatives too.

Allopathy doctors surely do not advertise their drugs. But the horrific side effects of their medicines is also not known to the public. You take one drug for a disease and you get five new diseases.
So does ayurvedic medicine. You don't feel the side effects because you have been told by quacks that it does not have any side effects. Similarly, you believe that all automatic medicine are full of side effects because you've been told that by the same quacks
Side effects are duly published as a part of clinical research study of the drug. Problem with ayurvedic and other treatment in India is that due to lack of research these have never been standardised. Anyone can claim that my ayurvedic potion can cure xyz disease. How would you verify that??

Yes, all the horrific side-effects and diseases occur only due to allopathy medicine, not because of roadside Chinese, momos,vada pav , chaats, cold drink, fast foods, lack of exercise,lack of sleep,stress, alcohol, smoking. A person only dies because of visiting allopathy doctor and taking medicines.
Ask other. pathy medicines that have you studied any side effects and trials of their drugs,as they do not study at all hence they don't know side effects ,even their dosage schedule is not in grams and millilitres, it's very vague.

After seeing this video, I wish to say the following: 1. I got my gut problem at a very young age. At a young age, I didn't take care of my health as I should have. I started my treatment late in allopathy after a few years. I have been treated for 35 years. During the year 2021, It got worse to the extent intestinal bleeding started and lost weight by nearly 25 kgs in a span of 25 days. I was not able to walk properly. Breathing has become a problem. At that time, I was confused to continue with Allopathic treatment or to change. At that time, after 35 years of Allopathic treatment, I decided to take Ayurvedic (patanjali) treatment. They stopped the bleeding 25 days but I was not able pass motions. They recommended for endoscopy and sigmoidoscope tests. The doctor said, apart from some mild infection, no cancerous problem but he orally said the large intestine and small intestine joint is closed and he has not come across such a case. So recommended that I immediately get admitted to hospital for close observation to improve the condition. But with the test results I continued with patanjali. After 2 years of treatment, now I am for better that what I was when treated with allopathic medicine. For 36 years before the treatment, I have never taken any food except butter milk rice (for some time only plain rice with water). Now after 40 years, I have started to take vegetables and some dry fruits too. What do you say about this? You want to close down Patanjali. 2. Then what do you say about the time (35 years of life) and money spent on Allopathic treatment. 3. My brother had been in the medical field and I was supervising his business. I know how "medical business" is conducted! But do not make patanjali as a villain.
