Your a gifted carpenter. I’m not really talking about this particular video but to all of your videos. I have learned a lot from you. Thank you so much
Good tutorial. I'd add set the plunge router before assembling the jig for both depths and use a ton of glue and screws on the buck stud or the drywall may crack. You all can second guess the order he works in but this is the most efficient. Nail holes will re-secure the jig exactly. JP avoided the uneven hinge placement topic Soss recommends which would have filled the comments with panic and arguments like happens on about every job I install these on. Notice the middle hinge is not centered at 1.5 minutes. Now you all can second guess that too. Final word, he did this exactly right. Go try some yourself, then comment.
Having both a separate Plunge base and Fixed base Router set up you don’t have to keep moving the Template from door to jamb then back to the door...Anyone who is challenged enough to use these hinges had better be prepared tools wise... I seed these hinges on two 3-0 x 7-0 solid core doors as Racket ball court entry doors to the court keeping a smooth face for balls not to engage with... I done this countless times... Good Video Jon...
I JUST SAW YOUR VIDEO I DID HIRE A GUY TO DO THIS WORK LONG AGO NOW I DO HAVE A NEW JOB AND I WILL NEED AN EXPERT. AT LEAST I KNOW WHAT HE HAS TO DO. GREAT VIDEO.
An oldie but a goodie! Going thru my local Craigs List I came across these hinges for sale at $13.00 brand new in the box. I have seen these hinges for jewelry boxes but never this large. They look very heavy duty and expensive. Thank you for a very good explanation.
Thank you for y our video! First, why wouldn't you cut both the shallow and the deep mortises on the door before you removed the jig? Second, Have you done an install with there Automatic Close option? Thanks again!
They are very expensive though also these hinges are very sensitive to the weight of the door so if the door is heavy, when you close it might bend down.
How to hang a door wothout visible hinges Sir Very nice idea and demonstration only a skilled technician can demonstrate. I saw this invisible hinges for the first time. The gadjets u used there in itself is worth watching and education to all invoved in wood working skills. Vatsa BANGALORE INDIAí
Great video. I've been doing doors strictly since 1997. These hinges are great for interior use. Exterior use would seem difficult to weatherstrip with compression copper weatherstrip. I guess you could use pop in Q-Lon, cheap weatherstrip but that would be like building the BMW but opted for hub caps instead of real rims. I have used this Hong on jewelry boxes also. Smaller of course.
Hi Roger, what would you suggest for outdoor use? I need to rehang a bungalow door to open to the outside because the floor has shifted & the threshold now has an uneven gap. As a result the door doesn't fully open to the inside anymore. Having a hard time finding hinges that aren't a security concern.
Very smart video. Very sensicle process. Easy to understand. Doing mock ups and trial runs is a good investment of your time. Good light and sound. The Soss jig is somewhat underwhelming and I have to wonder just how long those screw hole will hold up.
Awesome, you make it so simple, so with the buck stud is that what you would attach the trim molding to on the interior and then what would the exterior look like?
Do the Soss hinges say which side goes in the frame and which side goes in the door? as I noticed at 5:11that you fitted them so the door was swinging from the underside of the hinge as opposed to sitting on top which I would of thought was a stronger way of fitting them. Hope that makes sense.
Nice vid! I've used these before and they are sweet....but they're expensive! Had a 4-0/7-0 door that was to be hidden with a mural covering the wall and door and I couldn't have hinges sticking out on the mural side. This was the best product for that install when used with 3 hinges and 1 closer hinge.
What type of door are you using? Do you recommend a manufacturer? Also for your jam do you have a preferred Material\manufacturer? When you prepared the framing for the door did you give yourself a tolerance for the door? Or did you measure the opening the exact measurement of the door
Curious as to the reasoning behind moving the jig form door to jam and then back to door. Why not cut the shallow and deep mortise without moving the jig. Seems like an opportunity to get holes misaligned.
first question: is the door right up against the jamb with these hidden hinges, or is there at least a 1/32” of space ? second question: will the door open all the way and clear the casing, or is it limited ?
If you are using only one jig, do you still flip it over so that the sticker is resting against the jamb? Didn’t see that in the paper instructions that came with the jig.
Nice.....but I would mortise the hinge side jamb before installing it in the rough opening and to the head and other side jambs. Then you can attach the head and strike jambs on the saw horses. In that case, you are making a pre-hung door which is easier to achieve the proper head jamb length and spacing around the head and strike jambs.
Hmmm, Wouldn't it make more sense to route the mortises on the buck stud before it is attached to the framing? Then you could just do it on a bench at a much more comfortable working height.
Thanks for the video, you sir are AWESOME!!! Quick question, Im assuming that door jamb and door were built to be flush with the drywall? If so do you have a video of how to build those type of door jambs? And if not can you make one or send me some tips on how to do this? I plan on a big reno in my townhouse and have always loved the "no trim, flush door jamb" modern aesthetic!!! Thanks bro!!
Great Jon, but no to cheap. I dont like the idea of mounting jig with nails but thats not so important detail. At 01:20 Im looking at the door stile - so its glued from pieces and then veneered?
Does the lock side of the door edge need the same bevel as when using regular door hinges, and is the hinge side reveal the same as regular door hinges, or is it tighter?
Very good your video, much like the finish that hinge proporcina, I'm out of the woodwork for some time, but here in Brazil, I do not know if you have this hinge with appropriate size for passage doors, use for cabinet door and folding table , congratulations for the beautiful work, a hug.
what if my jamb isn't deep enough. I dont have the buck stud it's just sheetrock over where the door frame used to be. Is there a way to achieve this look with an existing door that was traditionally installed?
Thanks, Jon I enjoyed the video on use of Soss hinges for a door. My project is a wet bar hardwood countertop that needs a fold-down (or maybe fold-up) section across an opening. Soss hinges seem applicable for that case. Any suggestions?
I wonder how these compare to sugatsune or Tectus which is probably the best 3D Hinge on the market and every design is copied from them. Good to see other companies are providing templates these days.
Looks cool, although I like how easy it is to remove a door with standard hinges. That really came into use when my wife wanted to change the color of our front door.
Hey great job there. But I used same bushing from porter cable recommended by soss and using a Bosch router the bushing doesn’t reach the screws for the deeper cut, any suggestion? Thanks
The depth of the shallow mortise is crucial to the hinge sitting flush in the mortise. If he routed the deep mortise immediately after the shallow one, he would need to reset the router depth again for the shallow mortise on the door jamb. This would waste time because it takes some extra detail and caution to get the shallow mortise just right.
Hello, thanks for the nice video. My questions are: 1. These invincible hinges are they better than normal hinges? 2. How long do that lust once installed on a door? 3. Does this hinge opens 90 and 180 degree's or just 90 degree's 4. Are they affordable?
I do not understand the series of cutting the mortises. If I was doing it I would cut the shallow mortise and then put the spacer pins in and finish one set of hinges before moving on the do the door jam, I know it means moving the pins more but they are not difficult to take out or put in and doing it this way reduces the time needed to reposition the jig.
That plunge router has 3 plunge settings. If you set the 2 depths before hand it will save you time. You don't need 2 routers. The default about sos hinges is that they have no adjustment. I started using the Tectus hinges and I will never go back. They have up and down, in and out adjustment. I like the video 👌🏽
I made a door by laminating 2 pieces of 3/4 plywood for a small entry to a basement but, on their website calculator 1 1/2 inch door thickness is not an option. Does this mean I am not able to use these on this door at its current thickness?

Hello.. Not a carpenter but just thinking.. Is there a way to set the hinges so that the doors are centred? To offset the door from hinge side so its the same distance from other side as well?
Free handing a prototype and working, you are truly at God's level when it comes to fabricating! Respect bro!

I DID, I REALY STALLED A SWING GATE DOOR USING THAT HINGES AND WORKED PERFECTLY
Nice video - very helpful. Can you post a plan detail showing the jamb stud alignment? Thanks for the video and replies.
THOSE HINGES ARE AMAZIN, did not know those existed
They are very expensive though also these hinges are very sensitive to the weight of the door so if the door is heavy, when you close it might bend down.

Nice hinges. Seem simple to install using their jig setup.
Excellent install Jon! those hinges really look great...just wish I had seen this video before I took on my basement door two weeks ago!

I`m a woodworks DIYer,love everything you build, but don`t have all the tools i want,i only have just a few,it makes me happy when i build one project.
Hi John i am from Pakistan i also carpenter i like your work and working aedia 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Enjoyed your video. I may use these hinges on a few doors made to look like wainscoting in a bedroom.
What is the clearance between door slab and the door frame or door jamb when using soss hinges?

Yes I have a question, why are your project always built to perfection.Awsome job, keep it up.
Perfection brings beauty, beauty attracts customers
Best jig i have every seen
Nice tools and great work TQ
Great job clean and professional.

Why not do the deep mortise on the door as well ? Saving a step, thx for video.
Any special or specific door handle or hidden handle for this type of project, I love the idea of not seeing the hinges
This is a great tutorial... thank you!
WOW this is a beautiful design. great guide
goliaa718 very good sir
Nice video ! Why didn't you make all the box with plexiglass so whatever the box is oriented it let the sun come into the box ?
first question: is the door right up against the jamb with these hidden hinges, or is there at least a 1/32” of space ?

Nice. Fits like a glove.

Are there adjustment options for out of square frames once installed please

Great Jon, but no to cheap. I dont like the idea of mounting jig with nails but thats not so important detail. At 01:20 Im looking at the door stile - so its glued from pieces and then veneered?
Could you use this type of hinge to create a floor trap door, if you want a door where you don't see your hinges? (so that you don't walk over them)
I will like to know what kind of router and bid did you use on the video please.ThNk you
Hi, any way this can be used on 5/8" jamb? Or what is the minimum jamb thickness needs to be? Also, can hollow door be used?
Good jud, before duet complit your jig guide for invesible hinge's.
excelent work Jon!!
Nice one ,,but how do u make d jig , thanks sir
Your videos are very simpel to understand for begunner like me..
Keep good work mate..
great video Jon. always enjoy your videos when you share your experience with us. may I ask if any major retailer carry's these hinge and a price?
Does the lock side of the door edge need the same bevel as when using regular door hinges, and is the hinge side reveal the same as regular door hinges, or is it tighter?
Plz can you tell me which size of hinges you are using in this video for door and plz if you are from America then from where can I buy it

***** Ok friend John.
Good one, Best way to install instruction.
thank you for this video,we don't prefer to use this hings in Iran because the doors frames are made from metal but this hing is really sweet
Thanks
what if my jamb isn't deep enough. I dont have the buck stud it's just sheetrock over where the door frame used to be. Is there a way to achieve this look with an existing door that was traditionally installed?
Mr. Peters those hinges are excellent. where did you get the door????? and how much would a door like cost??
Hi jon what kind of bits do you use im using 1/2 router thanks
What size bushing and bit did you use? Did the thickness of the bushings wall affect the installation of the hinge?
Porter-Cable 42024 is what I use with a half inch router bit.
Bummer....do you try and use the screws in the hinges to hold the jamb?
This is very helpful to build my ideas
Thanks, Jon
I enjoyed the video on use of Soss hinges for a door. My project is a wet bar hardwood countertop that needs a fold-down (or maybe fold-up) section across an opening.

Nice job. Seems to me that the Soss hinge would be premium and well served.

Why not cutting the deep mortise in the door at the start, before moving the jig to the frame?
Beautiful work
great vid - what is the reason for moving the jig to the door frame before cutting the deep mortise on the door?
The depth of the shallow mortise is crucial to the hinge sitting flush in the mortise. If he routed the deep mortise immediately after the shallow one, he would need to reset the router depth again for the shallow mortise on the door jamb. This would waste time because it takes some extra detail and caution to get the shallow mortise just right.
Are there any adjustments on the hinges? So if the door was binding, you can move the hinge outwards?
Hello, thanks for the nice video.
My questions are:
1. These invincible hinges are they better than normal hinges?
2. How long do that lust once installed on a door?
3. Does this hinge opens 90 and 180 degree's or just 90 degree's
4. Are they affordable?
I used OTLAV 3D hinges, made in Italy. Excellent quality, very well built, 3 way adjustable. You can find them online.
$52:83
Hey Jon, do you recommend using 4 hinges for a 1-3/4" x 3' 0" x 7' 0" solid core commercial door?
In the case of creating a jib door, are the door jambs installed before the dry wall?
Where is the shop for that hidden hinge jig?
It appears that there are no branches in South Korea.......
Very,Very good!! You have more pneus subscriber👏👏👏👏👏
Wirh those deep mortises it seems like hanging the door was easier than wirh conventional hinges.
are there any hinges like for a door that 1 3/8 inch in thickness?
Are those screws a little puny for those hinges?
I do not understand the series of cutting the mortises. If I was doing it I would cut the shallow mortise and then put the spacer pins in and finish one set of hinges before moving on the do the door jam, I know it means moving the pins more but they are not difficult to take out or put in and doing it this way reduces the time needed to reposition the jig.
that means adjusting the depth of the router bit for the critical depth of the shallow mortise twice, so this is the easiest way possible
ahh - I had the same question, didn't think of that.
I suppose then if one had two routers both mortises could be routed with one set-up.
My thoughts exactely
I would prefer to see the screws longer it carry a lot of weight.

Jon nice job and very informative.
very good job bro
Thanks
Hi. where I could find the jig to machine the doors?
What’s the best wood to use for a solid door? I heard birch wood is no good for concealed hinges. Anyone? Thanks.

Looks really good. Question Does the door also opens inwards ?
No.
Great looking hinge and easy to understand video.
this is a good video, I have question for you, you door is 32 inches W. what is the opening on the door jamb for this hinges?
Jhon u HV done decent job ..
