Not really. In professional life(I realize Lemon and "professional" don't sit well, but still), you have to master your emotions, and seldom show your weakness. You must also learn to read people and learn to divorce emotion from interactions. At least he can understand it's only business, and he's trying to show that it doesn't faze him- "I've got other opportunities.", etc..
I learned that the hard way, 26 years ago. Over the years I've managed to pin some of that down. Before that, I was an agreeable gent, who was nice to people and everyone walked over me. That was back at the end of the 90's
Couldn't get raises, couldn't influence and convince people- whether potential clients, clients or potential employers. I then stopped being too friendly, smiled less, didn't show my hand, stopped taking part in office chit-chat, demanded more from myself and others and so on..
If you're a man, it's necessary. You need to be like that- FOR YOUR KIDS.
Me an my boss don't get along in person - and we both made it perfectly clear to each other, BUT we interact like there's nothing between us in public- because we're pros. I have his back and he's got mine when it comes to work and to what's right, and moral and proper.
