Could anyone suggest a piece of writing of Chesterton's which explains principles of Marian Devotion which is, I believe, the most significant problem for Protestants (like myself) to come over to Rome. Skeptics of this doctrine point to the 2nd century Gnostic text the Protoevangelium of James as being the sole text for Roman Catholics to base their faith on Mary as Co-Redemptrix in the Christian Faith.
The Holy Mary Is not to be considered Co-Redentrix. I m a Roman Catholic, just a student. It Is borderline blasfemous thinking Redemption comes from the Holy Mary. Salvation only comes from Jesus. We pray about and honor the Holy Mother of Jesus because of her virtues and the santity. What made her to be chosen. And we believed she ascended to Heaven and living in Communion of Saints. But as we pray to Saints statues we do not idolaty the objects as they were Gods, but we ad-ore God himself paying respect to Honoroble Men that lived their lives loving God,himself.
Chesterton Specifically: The Ballad of the White Horse, Other books include: The Bible. There are parallels between Mary and the mother of David, and the Woman Clothed with the Sun in the Book of Revelation. In order to understand this co-redemptrix phenomenon, you must understand the simple truth that you and I are sinful, as we are separated from God. God (The father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit) is sinless, and a medium is necessary to draw closer to Him. Mary acts as a bridge for you to reach Christ. Imagine it like this. Christ is King, you are a filthy peasant. He loves you as He loves all his subjects, however, how is your request or prayer supposed to reach him? How can you conceive of yourself as worthy to stand in His presence and ask Him of anything? Instead, you can go to His mother, and she can bring your petition to Him on a plate. He loves His mother greatly, as it is impossible for Him to break his own commandments. One of which is Honor your father and your mother. If you take nothing away from this, just consider that fact. Christ will not break his commandment. Christ would never dishonor his mother. If honoring the Virgin Mother of God comes as a stumbling block, just remember that.
Absolutely wonderful!
Thank you.
"A haunting love of the beautiful!" That is a killer quote
That parable is perfect!

Left out that pagans wirship the wrong and false gods, and Christians worship the One true God.
