I feel like so many youtubers would just scrap content like this because they only want to share stuff that makes them look super professional.. respect for keeping it 💯
I have had shocker days like this on the mountain and much, much worse. Rough days are still content as it builds experience in dealing with problems and people need to understand that sometimes you just need to deal with issues to get through the day. Also, I learnt really early on that you can carry a small screw driver on the mountain at all times and when you need it, it is worth the times you carry it and you don't need it.
Sorry for the bummer of things happening to stunt your split board experience in this vid. But it was a beautiful day on the mountain & I actually enjoyed the experience...this stuff happens. If you film daily...you are guaranteed to film an off day of some sort. Glad you didn't get injured like you said. Thanks for the intro to split boarding.
One unfortunate event after another. We all have those days and like you said it only prepares us for harder days. Still a great video more split board vids would be awesome.
When I 1st got my union explorer bindings I had similar problems with them coming loose constantly. It didn't matter how much I tightened them they'd come loose. Got some blue loctite onto the screws and haven't had a problem since. Hopefully they don't come loose when I travel to British Columbia in 10 days time
I have those expedition bindings and you can use some typical binding washers and longer machine screws to get to that initial disc to hold the plate down. Union hooked me up with my replacement end of last season when I lost mine but you are able to make it work without it. Just be careful not to crush the teeth on the half circle until you get the replacement.
Splitboarding grows on you. It clicked for me when I realized it was just as much about the fun of the uphill (it can be fun, especially if you get into mountaineering) as the downhill. Plus, you get more efficient and better with gear the more experienced you get.
I just bought a split board as well. I’ve ridden it about five times. Don’t worry man I had the same issue the last three times I’ve been out with my splitboard. I’m finally at a point now where I have everything set up the way I like it, and all the screws tightened and set up properly. So frustrating I understand
This is going to sound unreal but I did the exact same thing last year when I got my touring skis. I skinned up at the exact same spot and started to hike and found the exact same sign 😂
Well 2 folks had a good day because they got their credit cards back. Please don’t split board or go backcountry alone. Always carry a screwdriver Team Huckhouse. Glad you are safe
be careful having your ripcord in ready mode on the way up, through trees ect. most let you pull the "T" back to make it much harder to snag. then just "T" it up for the downhill
Those union split bindings seem to have a lot of give in a bad way. But even w/ the other brands, they sell parts kits w/ screws and strap bits just in case something breaks in the middle of nowhere. Also good would be ski straps, zip ties in various sizes, and picture frame wire + pliers.
I had a similar experience my first time on my split board. It’s good to take it to the resort a couple times. Get your stance adjust how you want it and find all your loose screws and pain points. Cause it sucks to get in the back country and be that guy. I now have an extra of the all the piece and screws in a little ziplock with my tool.
I feel you brother. I've been snowboarding since my teen years (currently in my 40's). There are days where I ride awesome but also days where my gear, body, and/or luck fall apart.
Bad days happen, but for me the worst part is feeling like I'm alone and that I'm the only person negative enough to not be having a good time, so this video was cathartic. I had a really frustrating trip to Hunter Mountain a couple years back. After driving for two and a half hours, I blew out one of my tires while making the turn into the resort parking lot. I had to cut the day short and drive 30 miles to a Walmart to get a new tire. The saving grace of the day was the lady at the tire department fudging the order of the work slips so my car would be ready before the store closed that evening.
Can u tell me if not having a metal edge on the nose and tail like certain brands Lib tech and other brands etc can u tell me if it hurts the durability of the board for damage possibilities?? I don't think I'd ever get a board without an edge on nose and tail.
sounds like you gotta work on two things lol. one is being more prepared fir split boarding in terms of location and setting up. second, you gotta talk to or make friends with back country riders, they’ll help you a lot on this haha
As unfortunate as it is that he lost the binding piece, makes me realize how lucky I was when I was able to get the last in stock Sparks Arc Bindings last year in what seemed like the entire North America.
I spent the day in breck , The good: lift etiquette was practiced by ppl in the lines I was in. Even a shitty day at the slopes beats a day a work The bad: couldn’t walk through the base of peak 8 if you wanted to weather sucked today, snow, no snow, sunny, cloudy, overcast, the weather kept changing like clothes on a exotic dancer. Parents: would you be willing at any moment to eat something off the sole of your child’s shoe they have been walking around in, then why are you letting your brown ass children dance on and jump on tables in a designated dinning area? The ugly: mtn safety gave me attitude for turning in a loss pass to them, like it was an inconvenience for them. Had a skier see I was new and struggling with control, decided it would be cute to pass me going fast af, about a foot away from me to try and scare me( run was wide open ) , thanks, I appreciate it, next time I hope he sit and spins on the wrong end of his polls Parking - better luck finding a parking spot in Times Square …. Unless you want a 30 min gondola ride from a parking lot to the village, to then walk your happy little self to the lifts Final take: well I’m already over it for the season, but I will sometime end up back there again, granted keystone is just a few more mins up the road

Yea boyyyyyyy, made it on “Todays sticker shoutout”! Sick board Johnathan. Looking to get into some split boarding myself. Keep shredding man!
Heck yeah brother 🤘🏼
You found 2 credit cards and potentially saved 2 different people from a bad day/holiday. Hero 🤙🏼

Worst day yet it’s sunny and no freezing fog. Anyways, KEYSTONE RIDING NEXT WEEK! let’s link up dude
I should be in town!!!

I like how he stays positive no matter what happens

Put some Loctite Threadlocker on those screws for sure!
I saw you at mt holly today in Michigan. Really chill dude tbh. Keep up the good content!
8:55: I’ve definitely said that so many time on a horrible shred day!

I was about to say, probably a good thing he didn't make it out there alone. No point of having avalanche gear if you have no partner
be careful having your ripcord in ready mode on the way up, through trees ect. most let you pull the "T" back to make it much harder to snag. then just "T" it up for the downhill

Split board gear seems to be problematic for a lot of people no worries Mang! I'm always stoked on Backcountry Content
Hit up Pine mountain, Marquette mountain and Mt Bohemia next time your in Wisconsin, easily some of the best hills in the midwest
Bought my first snowboard from Christy Sports. They rock.
You need to drop some layers when skinig. Be bold start cold.
Yes I've been waiting for a split boarding vid for so long.

That’s awesome she did that and yeah the worst dude! Being the only one not having fun is the worst. Thankfully those days stay away 🙏🏼
I never knew there was a ski lift that goes down! 😂
I feel ya! This is the same feeling I get when I crash one of my planes and it was my error.
Wait a minute. What?
Welcome to splitboard life... Tighten this tighten that. How ever splitboarding is the best you do not become overly used to 1 area
Always looking for best in every situation. Gotta try this vid idea again. Keep it up
Since I rarely get to go I’ll take anything. The most fun I’ve had was on a rainy day and I was soaking wet.
0:00 to 1:20 i was so confused 🤣🤣
Also just so you know you'r lifting up to much you need to just glide and not step. but doing good for the fist time.
This, gliding motion saves a ton of energy skinning.
Shhhhhhhhhh 🤫 you’re ruining the fun for some of us.
That setup looks exhausting
Hell ya I hit some black Diamond tree run today, my legs were burning when I got down to the cat traxx lol
Learning experiences i guess, prepares you for other days.
I want a snowbaord like that
One day you will!
Still an awesome video!
Sticker shout out for the win!
If u go there tomorrow I’ll be looking for u in the park!
ive always wondered sitting on that gondala if ppl went down that trail haha.... nice I want a splitboard =(
Can u tell me if not having a metal edge on the nose and tail like certain brands Lib tech and other brands etc can u tell me if it hurts the durability of the board for damage possibilities?? I don't think I'd ever get a board without an edge on nose and tail.
Ouch! That many negatives can be really defeating. Luckily there is always tomorrow.
ugh I cant believe i missed this premier!
sorry for your day of inconvenience’s. we’re you by any chance at keystone today? February 6th
Ha just went snowboarding this morning and broke my arm getting off the ski lift 😂
Yikes. Hope it heals well. First time?
I mean, waaaaaaay better to have those issues before actually going out 🤗 would of sucked to be stuck :X
Why does your board look so small?
I hope you got your up hill travel pass 🤣
Bummer the day didnt turn out how you wanted man! But it seems like you learned a lot by that experience so thats always a W
100% man!
Come to Maine
Dude 76?? oof. I hope you took your batteries out over summer.
A $1,000+ splitboard is only as good as a 15 cent piece.
sounds like you gotta work on two things lol. one is being more prepared fir split boarding in terms of location and setting up. second, you gotta talk to or make friends with back country riders, they’ll help you a lot on this haha
Nobody wants to ride in the backcountry with this kook.
@@rhettmorgan6708 why do you hate this man?
@@arnaudbergeron7201 look at him
Don’t lift the front of your skis when skinning up… 😆 - lift heel, slide ski flat across the ground
Shouldn’t have said anything. Some of us enjoy watching this guy look like a complete ass lol
@@rhettmorgan6708 you seem like a nice person.
looks sick
And he never went splitboarding again
First to watch after premiere
I’ve lost my toe strap twice, both times it was at the lift station. Should have checked
Yoooooo love ur vids
What happened to your RODE mic?
had my worst ski day today i went in park w poles and did switch backflip off rail and broke homies poles in process.
Lol sounds kinda dope tho
You should've ignored the sign; hiking is walking, not split-boarding or ski-touring.
bro its keystone, you expected better?
Keystones the worst
I found someone's wallet in the terrain park today turned it in to lost n found
Thanks for the credit card
Yoooo
Yooooo 🙌🏼
Still an interesting video (101 comment!)
noooooooooooooo

Yo

Approach skis would be easier and you can use a regular snowboard.
Or just get a snowmobile.
