You gotta see BAKL Battles 3! ua-cam.com/video/KzouJIh6XZE/v-deo.html
Why not Fuerteventura? Safe sandy beaches, non-stop wind 30-40 kt for last 2 weeks. Today was sick, 40 or so with glassy water between waves (Risco del Paso).
Sick! You'd have to ask the GKA, haha. I need to check Fuerteventura out
@@gethighwithmike 2 hours by ferry 😀
haha yes, go to tarifa, leave pozo for the windsurfers, they belong there ;-)
Legend! thanks for all the work you do for the sport
Thanks for your support 🙏
Seems tricky in GC but Mike I saw you in Feb mastering Misty whilst 3 guys got taken away in Ambulances. You really hit home 'Safety' with full RESPECT my friend. We all need to reach home safely after our sessions and thank you for emphasizing that simple fact 🙏
thanks for the tips Mike!
Always seeing you in the comments ❤️🤘
Can you please make a video about the rotating system!?!
Then we need to spread it and the Kiteschools should show it all students. It is essential on many spots, but not enough people know about it.
Working on it! ❤️🤘🤘
The pace is looking amazing can’t wait to try over the XR pro . Comp looks amazing but play safe 😊
I can still remember when I was a windsurfer - this spot is really dangerous. Pure adrenaline!
Thanks for keep feeding us with a great content Mike. Cheers!
Haha this was not sponsored in any way, shape or form. It's actually just helpful advice. If it were sponsored, I would tell you.
@@gethighwithmike - I stand corrected Mike! Editing my comment immediately. Thank you for taking the time and replying back. Much love from Toronto.
@@tuncherferad6128thank you 😬🫶
We've all been to new spots where we stared at the dodgy launching conditions and stood around awkwardly chatting for 10-15mins for a mate to volunteer to launch first...
😂😂 you first bro
@@gethighwithmike The correct move if going first is to get launched, then ride off and laugh while your buddy tries to figure out how to self-launch... :P
Come on Mike we are waiting for you in Fuertaventura 🤪 trust me it will not disappoint
Nice one Mike. Re you Sail Video System - do you use a leash for your camera? I am struggling with how to avoid losing the camera (and stick) if the system breaks at the joint by the harness (like my Insta harness did first time i took it out!). Any tips much appreciated.
The pole that was sent to me has a leash which I hook onto the straps of the shoulder mount. I think it comes like that standard these days. I also broke the joint once and the pole was dangling by the leash
@@gethighwithmike Thanks for that. Mine didn't come with one but I have taken a look at the one from Sail Video on a couple of youtubes and made my own today. 👍
Good info! Wind looks great! I like the tip about rental cars. I need to look more into this. I often find it unaffordable to rent cars when I go on kiteboarding trips, and that is mainly due to the insurance you pay when renting. As anyone else tried this yearly insurance trick?
Only downsides: they reserve a big deposit on your card (often 1400 euros) and some companies try suuuper hard to find damage to screw you over. But generally it's all good :)
me, for couple years, and claimed 2 or 3 damages, all got covered (just not sure if insurer was same as what Mike recommends or different one, anyway, exactly same category of insurance).
One thing Mike have not mentioned: to use this trick, you need to have credit card, since, when not taking rent-a-car-company's insurance (but the 'external' one) they need to lock deposit on your CC (cannot do that on debit card)
You should try kiting in Madeira Island then...
quick question: how do you find your board all the times while your are jumping high and losing it in the waves?
Most of the time we have eachother's backs :) this time my friend Mostafa brought it to me
Clover point, Victoria, BC Canada has to be the worst launches. Shout out the the old spit in Squamish for horrendous sharp rocks
Great video (as always)! Are there any other kite spots in gran canaria for those who can't afford buying a new kite every session 😅?
Haha! Ya I've been to one other called Vargas. It's a bit better because you can stand on sand but you still need a tarp for your kite because that goes on the rocks. I believe there are 2 other spots I haven't been to but not sure :)
Yes there are other spots. Actually at least 5-6. Where you go depends on the wind directions. In summer it’s mostly this one, Vargas and jinamar. And in outside summer months more, easier spots are active. Gran Canaria is an amazing place for kiting with wonderful local community and the spots are fine too if you go there paying attention to the tides and safety. Never had any accidents there.
Pozo is bloody awesome! Last time I've been there I was getting my ass handed to me while windsurfing, gotta give it a go with a kite next season :)
Windsurfing here looks epiiic! These dudes shred the pole haha
@@gethighwithmike nothing like a passive aggressive compliment 😂 These 3rd perspective shots are epic btw!
Doing a lot for our sport 🤙 thank you man
Great tip for renting cars globally! Thankyou Mike!!
You're welcome! 😬🤘
Horrible place to host a kiting event. I dont think its a good idea at all.
Ya after my latest session I'm in total agreement. Put holes in my 8m Pace and poor Giel got a gnarly cut in his 10 too.
How happened? @@gethighwithmike
Someone swiped Giel's kite on the ground when they landed him and the rock I used to weight my board onto my kite toppled onto my kite 🥲
My fault of course but this spot does not make life easy 😂
The worst thing, it’s a crap Organisation , they could put at least a nice and clear launch and landing area covering all of it with same artificial grass or anything similar….and even not talking about the entry or food trucks, visitors area to sit etc!
@@gethighwithmike does they compete with not new material?
I saw principi s reels he loves trust bar 2021 with any kind of damage on the grip ( as duotone bar owner, 2, grip really sucks)
Are we talking bets on how many launching or landing incidents we see?..... 🤯
Not gonna lie, I was thinking the same 😳
actually for 7 year (when I live here )I didn't see any launching accident by the locals. The see and the wave are perfect 40 min or hour later than high tide. With the high or half tide there is no rocks surprise in the water. The locals no kiting with the low tide see
Kited there for 3 months, never had or saw any incidents. If you pay attention to the tides and safety, it’s not problem. But I get that after fancy sandy beaches this seems a bit difficult:)
The price money is still waaaay to low for the amount of risk and training that is required. I mean come on, that’s the price of one kite nowadays. (And it’s too expensive). How greedy are the kite brands!?
True! Imagine we could get the prize money up to 10k per episode and 25k for the final 😍🤘
The risk to ROI ratio is ridiculous in big air kitesurfing. Putting your life on the line in Gran Canaria rocky beach for few thousand euros, outside podium it is basically 0€. It is clear that nobody is doing that for the money 😀Can only be eternal fame, bragging rights and glory. Money wise might as well sell hot dogs and beer at the competition day on the beach.
Maybe it is time to get some unpopular sponsor companies involved .... sports betting. They usually bring the money, coverage to regular sports and e-sports and so forth. Also they help to sort out the "broadcast" and platform problems as they need people to see properly what they are betting on. Once there is coverage, "eyes and clicks" - then there will be companies interested in buying advertising and presence in those events.
Having more money in the sport will also help to increase the level of the competitions and athletes and also bring more people to kitesurfing, which in turn will help all the companies involved and their bottom lines, etc.
First prepair die Friese, dann der Rest....
No thank you. 😅
Strange place to organise an event. Lots of rocks, if something happens, you are fucked!
Let me be honest, i live here, but the Organisation and the competition over here is crap, overall it´s a big fail! Better do it in Fuerteventura or El Medano! I live here but I don’t wanna go there, it´s an awful organized competition, I don’t enjoy it at all! I remember Big Air in Fuerteventura, the brought up a nice competionen and Organisation !
Thanks for your honesty. Today was a disaster. Extremely unsafe and I completely agree with you.
@@gethighwithmikeI’m not sure if the main sponsor Quatar is really happy with this organization! Well I’ll pass by today to have a look how’s going! Today the wind will be even stronger….base wind 42, gusts not included!
Lot of liars on here talking about fuerteventura , one look at woo tells the truth 😂
