Hover is also much easier for the average person to handle and can be used outside of the box without practice. While DJI has a learning curve to reach easy flight as you show out of your hand.
Great review, I have the Mini 4, but I am a keen triathlete so I am considering the Hover Air X1 for cycling & running, as trying to set the Mini 4 up whilst cycling or running is not straightforward! Can I ask the forest location?
@DMProductions I remember seeing a drone similar to HoverAir X1 years ago, the boxlike propeller guards are what were most unique and stood out to me. The HoverAir X1 definitely seems geared towards photos and videos of one person or a few people, and its controllerless functionality makes it appear much easier to use plus the folding sides for putting away in your pocket. I also remember your review of it, which was great! All it needs now is a 4K camera, and it would be perfect!! For the Mini 4 Pro, because of like you said the size and the controller, the best for any drone owner looking to purchase it would be to get the combo, which includes the bag, which you would definitely need for easier portability. Thanks for the great comparison
To some extent, this is like comparing apples and oranges. The HX1 seems to be a close quarters drone and focuses on individuals rather than scenic - so it really depends what you want a drone for. I’ve got a Mini 3 Pro with the remote control unit; but I could run it from my phone if I wanted to. But the reason I upgraded from the Mini2 primarily because of the specific remote - and not to be phone-reliant - plus benefit from a sharp screen. And it seems you can do most if not all of what the HX1 does with the Mini 3/4 pro plus the distance stuff that would be more difficult with HX1. Horses for courses - but I’ll stick with the Mini 3 pro. Good video though.
Great review . I have the DJI mini 3 pro and will sell it for the hoverair X1 pro max. The issue is that the DJI is getting difficult to fly in lots of places and the hoverair looks like you can fly any where with great picture quality and more fun
I noticed that too, somethings going on with the Hover X1. A comment from another video said there is a new 4K version coming out so maybe they’re trying to get rid of stock? A price reduction would be a good idea if that’s the case!
At the start of the video a card on my UA-cam read "contains paid promotion", so at least Darren is up front about it (and in adherence with UA-cam TOA's), which the company would rather he not be. As long as you know where the money is coming from, make up your own mind. Other youtubers have covered this topic, and some have boycotted (same with Insta 360). Companies asking you not to disclose that it's paid for are engaging in shady practices indeed. But I know of one other instance where they tried to cover their butts by retracting (Tech Drone Media). Like I said, Darren offers disclosure, so that's ok by me. (I'm not interested in the Hoverair anyway, but that's beside the point)
Because X1 is asking influencers to do this video and also asking them not to state is a paid video. If you look at techdronemedia video you can see the email chain from X1 Representative looking to mislead buyers. Nice to see the 10 second dislaimer
Drones are a lot of fun. Everyone should own a drone of some kind. The first time I flew my DJI mini 4 pro I thought I would have a heart attack it was so much fun. I couldn't "in good conscience" recommend a Hover Drone because I've never flown one but it looks like fun 🚁👍
Thanks for another banger of a video...I have the mini 4 pro (a lot due to your channel) and I've been loving it. It's been great to take out with my kids, my 16 year old daughter has taken in love with it as well and named her Froppy 😅
The only thing stopping me from getting the X1 is the camera. Either DJI needs to bring out a drone similar to the X1 or Hoverair screw the nut and put a decent camera on it.
My non-flying camera DJI Osmo Pocket 3 takes very good pictures, of course, but it weighs 176 grams. And the Hover X1 is a camera that weighs 129 grams and flies! This is a real feat of engineers, and it’s a sin to complain about the quality. We have to use what we have.
Yes I still prefer my mini 4 pro Darren. I can understand the ease of use with. The Hover x1. Both great drones but, mini 4 for me. Great video Darren thank you again for your time ❤
Chalk and cheese. I'm struggling to understand why you would compare the two? It's like comparing a car to a bus - both get you from A to B but the difference in functionality is miles apart.
Because many people do not understand why the Hover X1 is needed, mistakenly comparing it with drones. A drone is not a universal device, and in many cases I would not be able to use it. Mainly due to the long preparation time. If I need to shoot for 30 seconds, then the preparation time and putting the drone back into the bag will take 5 minutes! It’s a pity that the author of the video didn’t focus on this. I don't want to carry an extra bag. I don't want to think that the rotating blades could hit someone. I don't want to be distracted by controlling the drone. Many people don't understand this. The Hover X1 eliminates this for me, which is why I chose it over the drone.
DJI should carry on making the mini series it’s certainly the drone for me, it’s no bother for me to take the fly more combo case with me , but I think DJI should also make drones like the hover X1, why? I think they would make this type of product better. Personally, I’d never put batteries in my pocket, heard of a guy who did this and he hadn’t realised he had a foil wrapper from a Kit Kat in his pocket as well , it shorted the battery (it was still powered up ) the pocket soon caught fire rather quickly…🤔
Great video, to me the Hover Air X1 is a toy drone and over priced, while the DJI Mini 4 Pro is a far more advanced drone and you don't need the controller on you once set up on tracking
u still have to carry the controller with you regardless tho. I have both drones & they are both great at what they are made for & actually use the Hover X1 alot more than my Mini 4 Pro but I tend to take more videos of my direct surrounding alot more than flying way out. The X1 is definitely not in the toy category tho, once you try it for yourself you'll love it, trust!
Pleased to see you added the sponsored label at the start, especially as there a video by techdronemedia, where X1 is asking influencers NOT to state it’s a paid video and mislead people. Unlike Air Photography who DOESNT state his similar video 2 days ago is paid at all ! But an actual statement at the start would have been nice. I had an x1 for mountain biking but it went back as couldn’t follow after 10-12 mph even in open areas.
@@DMProductions that’s good to know. And like I said it was good to see the label. I have nothing at all against paid advertising etc as long as it’s up front. But looking at TDM , X1 are being sneaky and Air Photography were there is no label at all , it’s nice that you and TDM are being upfront.

Hover screwd up. The idea is great! We all want a fast and easy follow mode, or a real quick shot, But the camera and no avoidance is killing it (the little avoidance it got is good though.) But its fairly simpel if you cant compete with the dji or skydio drones, you lost. Unless you have something special, and this just isnt it. It needed to be a tad better !
@@DMProductions Well yes that, think about it. If you can buy a dji for even cheaper, with more functions, and a way better camera. or you go all out and pay more for a dji that can track you, why would you ever go for this thing?
You're the only one who screwed up here with your comment! You are given the choice of a convenient and compact one, but with slightly worse video quality, or a large, heavy, complex, dangerous, prohibited, expensive one, which cannot always be used. The choice is up to the consumer. And I chose the HOVERAir X1 over the problematic drone.
I don't own any drones yet but I think the HoverAir is the one I'd get. I want it to film myself practising moves and jumps on my bike. I don't want to lug big controller around with me. Nor do I want to learn to fly the thing just to get tracking shots. I just want to take it out of my pocket and press start. I'm not really bothered by 4K but if the HoverAir could fly just a little bit faster I would definitely get it.

The HoverAir X1 is the drone for people who don’t like drones.
I prefer the mini 4 pro. It's almost impossible to crash when flown correctly.
Once the "follow me" feature in the mini is set, do you have to hold the controller or can you put it into a backpack so you're hands free?
I think HoverAir x1 is a must-have. And once u already have it and need a 2nd more sophisticated drone, getting the Mavic Pro makes more sense.
Great review, I have the Mini 4, but I am a keen triathlete so I am considering the Hover Air X1 for cycling & running, as trying to set the Mini 4 up whilst cycling or running is not straightforward! Can I ask the forest location?

Can the Mini 4 Pro follow you when you hike WITHOUT carrying the controller in the shot? Thoughts?
Nope unless you put it in a bag and the sticks don’t get touched , you could also set up waypoints but different to tracking
