This short scene embodies the spirit of the entire "Waltons" series....due, in no small part, to the wonderful narration of Mr. Earl Hamner himself. He is now ninety years old...which is very hard to believe. I hope he is blessed with many more years of good health, as reward for the happiness his writing, and television show, has brought to so many people's lives...including myself, his biggest fan.
I am woefully remiss on my watching of the Waltons, but yes, this is much needed in today's age. I always was a huge Little House on the Prairie fan. Same ideals, same morals, same sentiments.
I enjoy watching the Waltons along with other shows with similar wholesome family values. This episode along with It's a Wonderful Life is a yearly Christmas favorite. I have to say this version of this Christmas carol is my favorite. Thank you for sharing this video.
My favourite episode if there is such a thing as a particular favourite episode for a series like this as they were all good. I've seen this episode so many times I know the dialogues by heart - a must watch every Christmas for me.RIP all those cast members who have passed on and thank you for making the world a more bearable and better place with this series - you contributed so much for so little and to the end.
Michael Learned has a nice voice. And I love how the closing narration hints at what's to come for the series (with Mary Ellen working in a hospital, and her brothers off to war).
Don't forget the killing-off of Curt. I never knew why they wrote him out of the series. Did the actor decide to leave or did his character not work out?
@@jensmom604 When Jonesey come on the show, there was an episode where somehow it was discovered Curt was alive but because of pearl harbor rendered impotent and He and Mary Ellen got a divorce? A different actor played Curt in that episode.
And then just as Grandma had come home, Grandpa Walton got called up there. THat was just sad, but glad they tried to keep up with the show for a few more years just to see everybody grow up.
You know a show is a masterpiece of art, when you can see bits and pieces of it, and remember the rerun like yesterday though years have past, but also it draws to heart soul and mind recollections of your own childhood, family and friends. This show was of such good nature, it will bring a laugh and a tear, and that is strong. I never read the book, but I think I will. I wished there were shows like this for positive influence today, rather than the sex, drugs, murder and moral corruption shown on TV today. I miss these days....
I love the song they chose for this scene, I heard the Bells on Christmas Day. I first heard it on Christian Radio Station by Casting Crowns. I recently heard the meaning behind the song and recommend looking it up.
He still writes on his blog every few weeks and just received a few more awards for his writing. He was sick earlier this year with a virus, but has since recovered he wrote. I did not know that he wrote for The Twilight Zone.
The waltons are my favorite show, I am watching them now. Television has gotten soo complicated filled with too much vulgarity and violence until you can't watch t v with your family, the waltons provide that for us, alone with little house inn the prairie touched by an Angle, Dr Quinn medicine woman..alone with a few others.. But I love my waltons..
Do you remember who wrote the words to, " I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"??? Henry W. Longfellow!! Look that up and read the story behind the song...
How nice to see Christmas celebrated on television.
A simple time. An era where family was everything. We have lost that in the 21st century.

I thought I heard Hamner died a few years ago, but he did live a very long age.
I loved the waltons. Would like to see more series

We all dream of the simplicity and traditions of family such as the Waltons.

Are The Same Program.
Both Of Them Have
An Episode That Matches
The Other One
I am woefully remiss on my watching of the Waltons, but yes, this is much needed in today's age. I always was a huge Little House on the Prairie fan. Same ideals, same morals, same sentiments.

I just absolutely love The Waltons and Daddy Walton. Ralph Waite was the best as John Walton too.
I’ve just started watching the Little House series with my husband and our two little boys. I’m thinking The Walton’s need to come next for us.
Love this
Merry Christmas! 🎄 🎅

@@superstargonnabe He played one of the trapped coal miners in the movie about the pennsylvania coal mine collapse that happened in 2002.
Another favorite of mine is in the Christmas Homecoming. Patricia Neal sang I Heard The Bells to the other melody.
So beautiful
A Safe & Merry Christmas to all we know and love both near and far.
Sweet.

This must have been pre-taped before the November 1976 stroke of Ellen Corby.
That show was based on a very real Virginia family, the hammers. Earls family.

I just watched this again tonight on cable (satellite actually). I wonder how they got all that snow for this scene.
Excellent question. Does Virginia even ever get that much snow?? lol
I think this is one episode I never saw :-( what is the title of this I would like to see if I can order it?
The Best Christmas. All the episodes are available on Amazon Prime. Merry Christmas! 🎄
The show really went downhill when the Grandma got sick & then the bottom fell out entirely when Zeb died
Great scene, nicely sung. Wrong tune but this one may have been easier to sing.
This is the vest
The best😂
I know the song but with a different melody which is better than what they put in the show
How come the melody is different?
This song has different melodies
Do you remember who wrote the words to, " I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"??? Henry W. Longfellow!! Look that up and read the story behind the song...
I always wondered who Kami Cotler was laughing at
@Lisa Murray. She was happy!! Wouldn't you be?! Look at the world now!!
Klasse! Aber bitte in Deutsch!
Very different tune here.
It was a better show after jonboy left grampa was the show
A REAL WHITE Christmas not like the crappy people of today. WHITE Christmas
You are not Karen Carpenter nor Burl Ives. They sung it better.
