***** Hmm i guess you're right but personally i wouldn't mind.. but I actually dunno if I would mind if I was the attention at a press conference cuz dunno what it feels like.. hmm I guess it's a bit akward when speaking infront of a alot of people and a camera.
+Michael Amora The reporter is an a-hole. Why is the media so obsessed with the sexuality of movie celebrities? Tom Hardy already addressed his sexuality in context when he was interviewed in Attitude magazine. This particular interview was about the movie Legend. What da fuq does his sexuality have to do with anything? I'm glad he didn't answer the question. It would have been disrespectful to the gay community for him to even entertain such stupidity.
He is one of the most down-to-earth actors in these days. Some might find him rude, or too straight-forward, but I think he's just honest, hard-working and smart. He doesn't give a damn about fame. And he's just a sweetheart when he's with his fans. (or puppies)
LetMeShineWithYou very articulate in all his interviews and press interviews the smartest one in the room! He never says anything off color or inappropriate and very humble. I absolutely love him more as Tom Hardy the person than even his characters he plays! And I love his characters! So it’s saying a lot! Tom Hardy to me is above and beyond one of the greatest most talented actors working today!
Go to 38:03. You will not regret it. An even better shutdown than the much publicised one. Emily must've known what's coming when she grabbed her drink midway through the question. Cue epic shutdown, awkward silence, and Emily's hair checking and drinking.
He's COMPLETELY in control of his frame. Like there isn't A SINGLE IOTA of his energy wasted or unfocused. It's like watching pure gallantry at work. How does one get to that point in their lives, to be that confident and that sure of yourself? I'd sure would like to know. I'd sure would like to feel that way as well.
Yeah, that's the "I'm murdering you with my eyes" look, or the "I could snap your neck with one hand, but I'm a conscientious citizen with morals and values" look. LOL.
Those reporters are not interested in the movie... they are interested in Tom's life. That being said, Tom is hard to interview...he makes people uncomfortable if he doesn't like the question.
+Bookofwords It's the latest shift in crappy web pages trying to gather more views to their youtube channels whilst gaining crappy clicks from people thinking the page is messed up refreshing the page and going back and forth etc, all just adds to their numbers. Too many clickbait pages have changed the game, back to youtube!
+Charles Sakyi What the fuck are you talking about? This IS youtube. What does the company's "crappy webpage" have to do with anything? The question was regarding the image at the start of the video. It's there because they're getting ready to go live.
Wow. Tom is a rarity not just among celebrities but generally. He not tries to please anyone, he is so comfortable with himself that he’s not afraid to say as things are even though it’s going to raise the tension. Tom Hardy is man one of the kind 👌🏼
Sorry if someone has pointed this out, but there is also an incredibly cringy moment at 38:03 when a reporter asks about the working conditions of another film of Hardy's, 'The Revenant.'
My favorite part was near the end about what Tom said about the curiosity and praise of the bad guy but never doing it in real life. Really amazing opinion on that subject.
Hardy and the rest of the panel are there to talk about and promote the film, if the reporters and journos ask irrelevant questions then they have every right to call them out on it.
Re the sexuality question. The reporter was doing something journalists do (myself included) to guide people in to areas they may not want to go, or to give them the opportunity to talk about something only if they want to. It's a known technique, but he blew it. Say if you're interviewing a celebrity who has children. Professionalism and respect means you're not going to bluntly ask about their children, because they would shut down immediately. Fully undersandable, and that's why we don't do that. BUT to have the person talk about their kids in your interview is a great scoop, so what one does instead is ask them a very open question that gives THEM the opportunity to bring their kids in to it. For example..."Christmas is just around the corner, have you any plans? Will you be working or taking a little time off?" The ball is in their court then, and if they choose to bring their kids in to it, it's fully their decision and they're in control of the conversation. OR they might not mention the kids at all. If they give you something, then you can gently ask them a follow up, or they might prefer to move on. It's respectful on both sides; it lets the subject know you're just doing your job and not trying to fuck them over. If there's a scoop there, you get it, if not, you can move on together without the atmosphere getting weird. That's what the reporter was trying to do - ask an open question about sexuality and media, leaving Hardy the option of going wherever HE wanted with it. The mistake the reporter made was asking it in a room with 200 other journalists, where not in a millon years would anyone talk about their sexuality. Also, he hadn't properly defined the question in his own head, so when Hardy said are you asking about my sexuality, he froze, and said uhhh I guess... That's when Hardy shut him down. He might have given an answer to that question if it was a one-to-one interview, or if he had thought the question out a bit more. There you go now.
I love how Tom is straight forward, just because he’s a celebrity doesn’t mean you can ask personal questions trying to be subtle about it because he’s human too. He handled that very well the journalist isn’t a good journalist at all, the way he asked the question could’ve been worded way better.
Very well handled, I don't know why this seems shocking or cringe worthy to anyone. He seems really professional and direct in dealing with silly questions.
When Hardy may that that journalist shut his mouth by saying "why?", I'm pretty sure he didn't want to have the same fate as the guy Bane broke the neck in Dark Night Rises!
35:21 "Yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, but I thought uhahuhuhahahuhhhuahh, what it- wha- iessss, its kinda- it comes what strikes me about that felt emotionally true...."
The exchange at 28:12 shows that celebrity have a hard time speaking to the media about their sexuality. But honestly I support Tom Hardy's answer. If he doesn't want to talk about it, then who cares, don't ask him.
28:00 I don't get the society in general, some months ago the United States of America decided that homosexual people have the same rights as heterosexual ones. So why the hell do we care about, if someone likes the same gender or not. If everybody would just give a shit and care about his own business, homosexuals would have their equality. So please stop trying to figure out if someone is homosexual or not. If he or she is telling it to you, you do not give a shit and just continue living your life. THANKS
Embarrassed to call myself Canadian after watching this. I hope Tom Hardy doesn't hold it against Toronto and returns to TIFF the next time he's promoting a film, but I wouldn't blame him for giving it a pass.
Tom is not a movie star. He doesn't need glamour. He doesn't put his personal life on display. He is an actor. he is only interested in acting. that's why he wants others to be interested only in his acting. so that no one interferes in his personal life. There is a family there, wife and children.
Tom is very honest when it comes to foolish questions, he doesn't over do it so it's funny to wach how he handles these situations ...not so funny for the reporter or the interviewer tho, I mean if I was either the guy at 28:15 or 38:05 I would almost cry and want the earth to open up and shallow me under tom's judgemental, strict look...so damn intimidating
I think it's funny how people think that just because you're famous they can ask you whatever they want. That is personal information and if he wanted to express his sexuality publicly, he would have already.
just because he doesn't want to talk about his sexuality, doesn't mean he's insecure, quite simply, its no ones business but his own. Get over it, my gosh.
I think that Tom handles the question in a truly classy fashion. If he is a private man then leave him be. Also, even though the movie his plays a bisexual man doesn't man he is one.
i’m surprised they haven’t made articles about him being homophobic or something!! why is this generation so comfortable getting in peoples business he’s a married man with a wife !!
MrFireworks888 If hes trying to find out if hes gay, then hes going to ask. What do you mean its not his business. If hes trying to get in this guys pants then its totally his business to find out if hes gay. And relevant as fuck. Because a straight guy won't date a gay guy. Its just science. MrFireworks888 7:33 Pm Well im responding to your comment because I thought you were being serious and I dont have any sense of humor. Im what people refer to as a douche bag.
Oh! Swing and a miss! Strike three! Michael Amora takes one for the team, (we all know where), and strikes out. What a ridiculous line of questioning setting back the LBGT a few decades.
This is the first time i hear him talk without sounding like a weirdo, or have a weird accent ect. which he has done in all movies i've seen.. and his grunting in mad max of course..
28:15, the question about his sexuality. You're welcome ;)

Nothing happens at this time
Obviously what I said did not happen within the space of a second. Watch on. God.

Yep that was so badass
That look he gives.
That stare lol he’s so savage!! You can always write something nasty 😂
he's so classy & his voice makes me melt auuuughhh
Agreed Brian is so hot
I love Emily Browning's awkward drinking from her cup at 28:58 ;-)
+Volound Perfect, 10/10.
+SuperNeil1 She drinks from her cup because she's trying not to laugh, and it is classy and brilliant.
I smiled when she did that because I would've done the exact same thing.
+SuperNeil1 I think I would have done the same thing too. If I didn't I'd probably burst out laughing.
+Volound Dude that gif is hilarious! :-))

"I don't find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality"
such a good answer! XP
With that cold look in 28:15 and 38:00 he should've then said "now you have my permission to cry"
Yeah, that's the "I'm murdering you with my eyes" look, or the "I could snap your neck with one hand, but I'm a conscientious citizen with morals and values" look. LOL.

Sorry if someone has pointed this out, but there is also an incredibly cringy moment at 38:03 when a reporter asks about the working conditions of another film of Hardy's, 'The Revenant.'
I love how Tom just stared that down when he asked the question about the Reverent, that was truly terrifying and intimidating
What makes Tom Hardy cool is that he sort of doesnt rate himself that highly when in fact he is rather good. That's the essence of "cool"
Tom is awesome ♥
the way hardy shut that clumsy line of questioning down drove me from neutrality to fandom.
My favorite part was near the end about what Tom said about the curiosity and praise of the bad guy but never doing it in real life. Really amazing opinion on that subject.

28:20 Note to self: Never EVER ask Tom Hardy pointless questions.
Tom and Emily are amazing!I am glad that they play in this movie together
And this is way Tom Hardy is a Legend! Real bloke. Not interested in fake Hollywood bullshit. Just happy to have a job. Genuine.
If he wasn't such a good actor he would have such a good voice over career.

Nah not one reporter asked Emily a question- did she have to come? I would’ve taken a nap.
