Fans want to see competence. Not bringing a fit LB is ridiculous. I think to be a football manager you need to have a player for each position. Putting Trippier there is emergency back up, after your 2 selected are hurt or banned. If Pickford was injured going into the tournament would it be acceptable to not bother with reserve keepers? Because if you know anything about Football you'd know that Cole Palmer is easily the most technically gifted Footballer in the England squad. He does things the others can't. He did more in a 15 minute cameo than the others have in 3 games.
