I think arthurs death effected me more than any game character ever
I cried myself to sleep at 3am playing the true ending
I dont think I’ve ever cried as much as I did when Arthur died. It was like every single moment and every good deed I did as Arthur flashed in front of me and after that it was just pain.

The death of my horse, saying goodbye to John and Arthur's last words already had me on the verge of crying. And when Arthur died as the sun was rising i was crying for like a hour.
It is just a game but the stories that are told in games are nonetheless still full of emotion and that's all you really need in a story EMOTIONS

John Marstons death in Red Dead Redemption 1 will always hit me the hardest. When he sends his wife and son off and all the men outside the barn are waiting with rifles drawn, but most of all, his deep sigh before he confronts them. He knows he's not getting out of this and so does the player. So, might as well go out guns blazing. Like a real cowboy.
I also started playing Red Dead Redemption 2 and haven't finished it yet. I know what to expect from the ending as it's shown here, but it's not about the ending. It's about the journey. And so far, it's on par if even better then Red Dead Redemption 1.
