I was hoping the thunderbirds and the angels would fly together at this show but i'm just glad i got to see the thunderbirds for the first time. The speed of the 16s is staggering!
First time I remember seeing the Thunderbirds in the vipers was at Griffins AFB in Rome NY. Don’t think they’d been in them too long. I remember the narrator directing everyone’s attention to the Diamond off to the left…and here came the lead solo on the deck, from the right, going at the speed of heat. Babies cried, I’m sure some adults messed themselves. “Thunderbird 5 has just demonstrated tactical surprise…” 😂
@@n89434back when I went to Airfest’s at MacDill (haven’t been for number of years because of physical issues), I would keep looking to see where the solos were and when they did the sneak passes, I was thus usually seeing it coming and could watch the crowd around me get scared! So when the narrator did like you said, I took that as clue to be looking the other way!
I'm pretty sure they don't ever practice together so that's why they don't fly together. Maybe they'll put something together for us all one day though. Ha ha.
Amazing aircraft and pilots, I never witnessed this maneuver in person except for an F22, I was lucky enough to enjoy over crowd displays... "Wait, why are there only 5.... BOOM here comes #6" from behind the crowd... long before "safety"
On Friday, the Thunderbirds show was actually better and it was a low/flat show...but lots of sneak passes from all directions...at one point they came in so low from behind and right over head that you could feel the heat from the burners....Saturday's show was all about the Blues and their families being there to welcome them home, and saying goodbye to Boss and Lcdr Lee as well as Lcdr Stengal also, the traditional welcome home bath for Fat Albert. Not to mention the Blues team maintenance people dousing Rob Reider with a cooler of ice water to celebrate his final show as an announcer...quite an emotional day, and a beautiful show by everyone who flew!
These dudes are so good at formations they walk to their aircraft in one. Never have seen a start up like that! 16:17 Under appreciated moment with a low, flat, tight afterburner 360 turn. The Gs pulled and strength required for that maneuver deserves respect.

They have tightened that photo pass up considerably since 2019. They used to fly it with no overlap at all, and looking through 2021, 22, and 23 videos, it's been getting tighter and tighter through those years.
Yo they were a lot lower, Thunderbirds are way better!. They came to Pcola and showed the blues was up!! I loved the ending the solo's mirror pass, break off and land is something I have never seen before.

Agreed. That photo pass used to have no overlap at all between the aircraft. I've looked at videos of the show since 2019, which was still very loose, and they started tightening that up in '21, a little more each year since then, it seems. It was one of the things that gave me a "meh" attitude about them, having so much daylight in what was supposed to be a really impressive pass. One of the things the Blues do more of that I think makes their demonstration more dynamic is they have more separate-and-rejoin maneuvers. But that high-alpha pass by the T-birds, even though it was one aircraft instead of two side-by-side, was VERY low and WAY closer to the crowd line, which was impressive.
