- United States Marine Corps Recon | Force Recon & Division Recon
The reconnaissance mission within the United States Marine Corps is divided into two distinct but complementary aspects; Marine Division Recon (reconnaissance element at the division level) and Force Recon (reconnaissance element at the task force level). You can find the similarities and differences between them in this video.

Force Recon was the go to in Vietnam it seems because I hear about them more in long Range Reconnaissance then the ARMY Special Forces. THE ARMY AIR CAV when you mostly hear about the ARMY
Really, you hear more about Force RECON when it comes to RECON missions?
My grandpa was a recon marine in Vietnam and made it out with a few Purple Hearts now I just enlisted with a recon contract leaving for bootcamp next month wish me luck
@@caseyK2K you probably won’t see this for another month but how’d it go?
Too bad now they are a waste of tax payers dollars, they haven’t seen combat in over 10 years.
Hell ya, I’m glad they are on our side

Interesting. I had only heard the term "force recon". I assumed it was a brigade sized force spread across the entire USMC.
Force recon, I assume, is a part of the overall marine recon. Battalion recon probably does standard recon and force recon does the deep and even more intricate stuff. You can also check out general discharge for more info on recon.
@@mondaymotivator_ division recon operates closer to ground forces while force recon operate deep behind enemy lines. My father was in both.

Royal Marine Commando perhaps? On an exchange with the USMC.

IKR, like holy shit there’s something called “PT” 😭
Isnt force a division wide asset and recon batt battalion?
What I want to know is if there is a difference between recon and force recon now that marsoc has been established? I hear that recon does deep recon but some say recon doesn't do deep recon so which is it?
Force Recon does the deep stuff, while Recon Battalion does recon ahead of division unit.
MARSOC being established has nothing to do with Recon. Recon does other objectives based on the needs of the Marine Corps. MARSOC operates on another level based on the needs of SOCOM.
Force was deactivated for a number of years following the activation of the early MSOB's, force was reactivated a few years ago. Force marines were either moved to MSOB or Deep Recon Platoon. This has obviously changed as of the reactivation
Both focus on long range recon, while force recon is composed of the best, which obviously makes the more clandestine, deeper recon missions a mission set for force. This is along with the fact that force is trained much more on DA missions, especially VBSS
are they same with marine raiders?

- Once Marine Forever Marine -
Force should be part of MARSOC / SOCOM as primary Deep / Special Recon unit. MAGTF would still have Battalion Recon.
The marines are too dumb to do it. They lost the chance to be socoms recon guys to the airforce.
They established MARSOC mostly from Force Recon marines, I guess MARSOC probably already have those capabilities with deep recon.
They lost the recon opportunity in Socom to the Rangers RRC and AF SR.
But the Marines need their own recon anyway. Some fine shooting there with the stock firmly implanted in the shoulders. Nice to see.
@@glennhynes5263 RRC is JSOC
There are already Marine Raiders that are part of SOCOM that do that stuff. There wouldn't be a need for Force Recon to become part of MARSOC. In addition, MARSOC derived a lot of their initial personnel from the Force Recon companies. Different mission statements as one answers to SOCOM and one answers to the Marine Corps directly for Marine Corps needs rather than SOCOM needs.
Forever US / ROK marine corp
R. Lee Ermey is gonna be pround of those warriors that he wanted them as killers.
Do they just Train all day because I don't see one video where there shooting at enemies??
Marine Division Recon is also Special Operations Capable, not just Force recon.
i thought divison recon was more of a top tier infantry while force recon was more speacial forces oriented
@@milsimmaniac711 Well your along the right lines. Force Recon are basically companies that fall under the recon battalions (division recon), Force Recon will generally take on more direct action and go deeper into enemy territory despite both having similar capabilities as the video said. Overall both are amazing at what they do, just slightly different roles however they are both not actually special forces/special operations since they don’t fall under SOCOM.
@@e9cw196 In my knowledge, Force recon is special force. They are not under socom not because they could not, is because the MC top guys won’t let them be.
@@wildgingerp3921 Special Operations Capable does not mean special force. Also special force means Green Berets. Special Operations Forces would be a more appropriate term.
@@milsimmaniac711 you are correct

Whys old mate got his nods down during the day
The guys who had their nods “down” during the day were using PVS-31’s, which you can articulate out of the way when using them. They had them down and articulated to reduce the risk of snag hazards while going through doors and such, as opposed to having them sticking up off of their head.

If you’re a Marine in a MEU, and in your job description is fast-roping into the site of a helicopter crash with the mission to recover any sensitive stuff and destroy the helo…well what is your job? You’d be within the MAGTF?
(Do the training mags have weight in them to replicate it being loaded?
No such thing as training mag as far as I have known for the last 7 years since being in
@@smackabroad123 That mission is the buzzword I needed, and I appreciate you. Thanks!
PS. Is there training done with empty mags?
@@F3PIZZA sure, mag changes and such
That TRAP (Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel) which is done by a platoon of infantry on the MEU. The recon platoons are usually responsible for special operations missions on the meu and let the infantry battalion cover the recover of pilots

@@TimesArchives i love the sarcasm
2:20 I have never heard that pathetic excuse of an abbreviation before in my entire life
Who made that
Battalion and Force, not Division.
So division recon aren’t special operations capable
Actually Division Recon Marines are SOC... Training is basically the same... Difference being Tactical Area of Responsibility (TAOR) and(unless something had changed ALL Force Reconnaissance Marines are required to be jump&dive qualified because that typically perform more "black ops" type missions than their Division counterparts.. Not all Division Recon guys are both jump and dive... Some are but most are either or...
Now all recon Marines conduct Jump dive freefall and sere school in a pipeline before they hit the fleet, earning the MOS 0326. If they do not complete all of the schools they cannot re-enlist. So no there is no difference in root capability. The difference is who they work for and the training they conduct while in the fleet. Sometimes force gets more experienced guys but not always. Marsoc marines generally do not dive or conduct much amphibious training and do not do much recon. For them the skills are more FID UW and urban focused
