Hi Scott....your recent videos have been killin' it and this one is no exception. Your approach takes the mystery out improv and breaks it down into a concept that we can understand and easily put into practice. Love to hear your take on a ballad as well.
Thanks! I'll definitely take on a ballad in the near future.

Thanks Alam!
I just received a alto sax for my birthday and I’ve never played before but, I have always had a love for the sound and the instrument. So I have been checking out your performances and tutorials and they are always very helpful and amazing. You’re a great inspiration. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! You should consider taking a few lessons from someone who lives near you to help you get started.
Your exceptional talent is clearly a result of your commitment to wood shedding. Your explanations make theory more easily understood and practical for playing. Highly grateful that you share these musical tidbits with us. Keep showing us how to blow so we don’t suck.
👍👍
Awesome video lesson, I will start (re) working on this one again tomorrow trying to incorporate your suggestions. Thanks so much and please keep the standards tutorials coming!!!
There is so much you can add into Autumn Leaves because it is such a simple melody. Have fun with it.
I have just discovered you. Your lessons are excellent. Clear and practical and effective. Thank you so much.

You're welcome!
I really want to learn the next step after this!. Thank you, Scott. it is really good!
Check out my sax school. I cover Ad Libbing step by step: www.scottpaddocksaxschool.com
Quality Scott. Thanks for sharing so much insight... it would be very cool to have a vlog of a song e.g. Autumn Leaves comparing how (obviously your interpretation) different players of different eras would play it - perhaps Lester (old school), Bird (bebop), Brecker (modern)
Great stuff....as usual thanks man
Thanks Mike!
Another great tutorial 🙏🎷🙏🎷🙏
THANKS!
Great Scott......
Scott I Love how play your Grace note please make a video outlining the how to play Grace Notes
I'll put that on the list!
Loving the vids, Scott. How about some Bossa Nova: The girl from Ipanema?
Thanks! Yeah, I'll put it on the list.
Scott Paddock im really new in sax. Really like these ad lib lessons on ATTYA and autumn leaves. These make me know how to "swing" on sax. Hope you would like to make another jazz standard ad lib lessons. You are great
I'll add that to the list too! Thanks!
FAN-TA-STIC!!
Thanks!
My tone has always been bright and I thought that getting a dark tone was the goal, but having heard your tone... I feel like thats the style I should go for. Love the videos!
I play on a custom z with a jody jazz hr (green box #3)
Thanks!! Yeah, for what I play most of the time I like a setup that cuts through, but I do try to real it in when necessary.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love your stuff always informative, great tone ,
Thanks Paul!
Amazing
Thanks!
What make and model is your horn and mouthpiece? It sounds awesome to me man.
Nice tutorial Scott. I'd like to see and hear what you would do with Misty. Also, do you have a tutorial for glissandos? How do you practice it and make it fluid?
I'll add that to the list.
Ha Scott. gREAT. How about Misty and Swinging Shepherd Blues. Thanks. Tom
I'll put them on the list :-)
Just found your videos. Got yourself a new sub. I love your style of teaching and I dig your horn in this video! It looks steampunk, LOL! What color is the body? (I'm color blind)
Hey! Thanks, glad you're digging the channel. The horn is a P. Mauriat 67RX Influence. The lacquer is called dark, it has a matte vintage finish to it. I've gotten the steampunk comment before. I think that's a pretty accurate description. As for the color, it's a dark flat brass (no shine). To me it looks like it has overtones of green and grey to it. Kind of like what an old beat up sax would look like.
Great video! Could you do one of All The Things You Are?
Yeah!! That one is definitely on the list.
Scott Paddock please add On Green Dolphin Street too, thanks!
Bravo, 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
👍👍👍
Great
THanks!
Can you plz give the name of your saxophone mic ..if possible..
Hi Scott your videos have been a great source of inspiration and information for me, is there any chance that you can do an ad lib video of that great gospel standard "Amazing Grace"?
Hey Noel. Yeah, that's a good one to do it on. I'll put it on the list.
great vid scott ..thanks.. btw what's the sax your playing in this vid ?
It's a P. Mauriat 67RX dark lacquer
L E G E N D
😁😁😁
Nice looking sax, is it a P Mauriat?
Yeah! A 67RX with dark lacquer
I'm seriously considering one. although I do like the cannonball finishes :-). I am more of a tenor player but am thinking about upgrading my alto, I only have a YAS23 at the moment but I do have a Theo Wanne Fire coming....
@@stevepovey2489 I play the 66RX tenor. I really love the P. Mauriat horns!
What is the technique called when you lift the be finger from the G and it makes that cool sound
I don't know if it has a name. I do it to put a little space in there and put a little grit on the notes.
@@ScottPaddock yeah, it sounds great. I heard one of Gordon Goodwin's saxophonists doing it
Zvey timely 😜
😊😊😊
