Come ride along with us as we dig into the CT125's battery access panel and add a few tricks to attempt to keep from breaking the plastic. It can be very hard to remove without breaking. I show some tricks I've learned through the years to attempt to keep from breaking the panels. Here we are actually installing a lead to charge the battery and run a small air compressor, but it shows how to access the battery and remove if need be. Thanks again for watching!

Your care with the plastic has now made you my go-to for CT125 info.
Much appreciated! Working on bikes and vehicles for the general public, it's just a good practice to try not to break people's things. Carry this over to my personal stuff means I have to buy less parts!! Thanks so much for watching!!! Welcome to the channel!
I really appreciate the video, it was really helpful when installing battery tender charging leads on my CT125. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!!
You are a Treasure! Sooo helpful to learn how to service my Trail 125!! 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for the kind words and watching!!! Glad to help!
Do not increase the fuse size! It is sized to protect the particular gauge wiring so the fuse will disconnect power before the wire overheats. If you need more power than the wire can carry, use a heavier wire with the appropriate higher amperage fuse.
A REAL mechanic... Thank You.
Thanks for the kind words! We try around here!!
well at least i now know that the guy who designs the parklots just does that Part Time. his Full Time job is designing battery compartments for HONDA... i had to remove the battery tender ( installed by the dealer ) just to connect my stereo system AND the sweet TRAIL 125 sign ( lights up ) !!! took me MORE then 1.5 hrs to finally get it to work. side note: i am VERY very happy that it worked but still a little distressed by that... on the PLUS side ? IF i ever did need the battery tender connection i can just unplug the stereo and use its SAE connector ;) so there is give and take lol... btw i am buying the full set of screwdrivers ! ( thanks for the linkage !!! ) the recommended compressor no longer available but since i have a rechargable worse comes to worse i got to recharge it on my usb c pd port which i added :) thanks for all the hints/tips its much appreciated !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to help!! If I'm not mistaken, you may be able to go directly to the compressor website and still get it! shop.dynaplug.com/products/dynaplug%C2%AE-micro-pro-inflator
Best of luck to ya and thanks for the support!!!
My Super Cub is a road model. Much more complicated than its great granddaddy that I had over 60 years ago. The plastic fairing for access to the battery had several of those little ears. It has several fewer now than it did. The only use of them is to help streamline assembly at the factory. I removed the things to make it convenient for me. (The assembly worker doesn’t live nearby in my neighborhood.)

I don't blame ya there!
Thanks for the great video. Your mention of being careful not to break the plastic is important. I need to add some rear brake fluid (2022 ct 125) but I'm really afraid of breaking the plastic side cover. I'd love to see a video of how you approach removing the cover and then replacing it. I'm not mechanically inclined and appreciate informative videos like yours. I imagine there are others who would like to see how this is done, as well. Thank you!
That's a great idea! Appreciate the kind words!
Good tutorial there..!! ✅
And Yes, I wouldn’t Zip-Tie the end of that either 17:50 or it would be Harder to plug anything into it, this way you can maneuver it while plugging things to it..!! 👍 We have been using these since the mid 90s on all of the motorcycles and riding mowers.😁 They are a great invention... 😎🥳👏
Appreciate the good word and you watching the video!!
Hi from Ireland. My buddy and I just followed your excellent video step by step and it all worked out (esp protecting the plastics). Thank you and well done.
Great news!!! Glad to hear it and thanks for reaching out!!! Ive visited Ireland in 2007, you have a beautiful country! Some Irish fellows on the train told me I reminded them of the Dukes of Hazzard. 🤣🤣🤣
I have a new one coming , will mod/grease ALL them plastic tabs . When done , all
plastics will come out easy . Thanks for the tutorial , professor. ( I have already ruined $$$
worth of shiny plastics before getting it right , on previous bikes haha ).
Thanks for watching and the kind words!!
Thanks for sharing this information with everyone. The service tech at my dealer literally broke that U shape tab immediately upon me buying my bike... along with one of the push pins. Needless to say they bought me new replacement parts. I put my pig tail in the exact same spot👍
Anytime man! Kinda researched it as the video went along. I found a little bracket after the fact to hold the end but it wasn't 100% necessary
They must of fixed that on the 2022. I just did two of them and they were super easy. Added external battery charge connections to both. I hate that Honda is using those stupid automotive fasteners. Now I need to order a bunch of those in a couple sizes. Thanks foe the vid.
Thanks for watching Kirk!
Superb!
- like always.
Oh, the Vessel drivers are superior
Can't beat those Vessels! Thanks again buddy!
I just bought my 2022 Honda Trail 125 today. Thanks for the cool videos, Brother. I also subscribed!
Congratulations!!! Thanks for the follow! Greatly appreciated!!
Thanks for posting this! Just in time as I have to do this project on my CT!
Anytime man!!
Nice! Have you done a video on installing the accessory socket? It looks like you have one installed up there by the left fork. Thank you.
Not yet. I did one on the Himalayan, and its really similar. Just hooked mine straight to the battery because it's switched on the charger.
Hey, thanks. Nice video. I'm using a Battery Tender Jr. from Amazon. I had to remove the battery while my bike stays in storage for the winter. So far, so good. The BT seems to be doing a good job. And thanks for the tip on the fuse.
Appreciate it man, glad to help!
@@PSBEadventures - HELP. I am having trouble screwing down the center tab on the battery lid (@17:00 in your video/manual pg. 57). It just won't screw down using the hex wrench, like the tab is not long enough. It came out alright but I just can't get it to go back in. Also, I dropped a tab inside and can't find it. Do you know where I can get one? It's warming up and I'm ready to ride.
@@timpeck1157 did ya get it? All in the way you hold your mouth 🤣
@@PSBEadventures I think the hex tabs are pretty common. I'll look for some today at Ace Hardware and try again. We're almost there.
@@PSBEadventures UPDATE Well, I can't find the 5 mil hex screw at Ace Hardware or MR Motorcycle. I can order one from Atlanta. But, I can't screw in the one I have. Even without the battery lid in place, I can't screw in the hex screw. It just goes through the raised black bar receiver (shown at 14:45) and spins without catching onto anything in the screw hole in the middle. Everything else snaps in place and holds down OK, but that one screw won't go in. It just spins and comes back out. What am I missing?
Very cool little bike 🙂
Thanks! Really been enjoying it!
thanks i just hooked up USB on mine and this helped.
Good deal!
I love the no clutch. But wish I had more of a hwy gear .
Yep, would definitely be nice to be like a Grom with a 5 speed
Thanks, very helpful.
Excellent video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching
What tire and size are ya running there? Excellent video.
IRC GP-1s 3.00 on this one. Link in description of this video and review. ua-cam.com/video/Hj38_xRC04g/v-deo.htmlsi=iP4w63XoEbzPZDkp
Great videos. Where do you pick up a fancy screwdriver like that?
Link down in the description for ya!!
Instead of using this plug in as a mounted battery tender , can it be used as a battery charger for an extra battery ?
How much will the engine alternator put out ?
I have an adapter that converts this plug to two dual USB chargers. I'm not 100% sure on alternator output on these engines. But I'm sure it would def charge another battery
Sweet, thanks for the advice!
Hi there Mr. Thank you for you contribution to the community. I just installed one of this on my CT. But I struggle to get the battery cover back in place because of the big terminals on the cable and the black and red plastic cover is to bulky. What I ended up doing was removing those and just put some electric tape around the connection since I didn't have any shrink tube. Would that be ok? Thank you.
Sure thing, shouldn't be a problem at all. If something comes into contact with the negative side nothing will happen. Just make sure nothing metal can contact the positive, and you'll be good to go! Thanks for watching!!
@@PSBEadventures Thank you for this information. Another good point you made in your video is the screwdrivers. I used the regular screwdriver and I messed up the scrwe on the negative side. I was able to put it back in place but I will have to replace it eventually. Do you know what size are those screws? Lesson learn I will be buying the set of screwdrivers you recommend. I also installed the apache case like yours. Its an awesome idea. I have all kinds of things in that case now. Tools, Bottle of gas, a small inflator and a few more things. Thank you again for your videos, they do help a lot to the community. 🙏🏼
@@fndr82 I believe the hex part is 10mm if I'm not mistaken. I feel like using the hex part of the screw will allow you to get it tight enough as well. Thanks again!
Excellent video thank you
More than welcome! Thanks for watching!
Is this the 2022 or 2021? Does the 2022 model really have an oil filter? Thanks
This is a '21 here. As far as I know, the '22 remains unchanged. You could check me on that over at www.hondaprokevin.com/
What exhaust is that Chris..?Looks great...
Thanks! Moriwaki Monster.
ua-cam.com/video/TPRiV7lHokY/v-deo.html
The Schumacher battery maintainer you put the link to on Amazon shows clamps, and no quick connector. How do you change that to a quick connector, and did you use the on you put a link to? Thanks.
Thanks for the question! The pictures show it with clamps, the clamps come in the package with the tender end so you can plug them in if you want to use it that way. The end that hooks to the battery and stays there I used came with it as well. The USB charger I linked to has a permanent eyelet end on it as well.
So basically the tender comes with the two prong SAE connection made on it and the clamps have the same opposite end wire a short lead if you wanted to charge the battery that way. Hope that makes sense
@@PSBEadventures thanks so much for the quick reply. I went ahed and ordered the Motopower MP00205A 12v 800m, which showed both connectors
@jerrycurtis6888 no problem! Good deal man
Chris, can you share your exhaust mod? Link or name of unit. I like the looks of that thing.
Hey Gator, sure thing, that's the Moriwaki Monster from web bike Japan. I'll link a video I did on it a while back
ua-cam.com/video/TPRiV7lHokY/v-deo.html
I need to replace the battery. Hoping "Some other stuff" isn't going to be to bad. I can not find a thing on the complete replacement.
Nah, not bad at all. Lid, cables and the hold down and she come right out
An interior trim tool would probably make quick work of that cover.
Have a ton of those and definitely agree!
Hey, very nicely done! Thanks for the tips. Hey, what size rotopax are you using?
Appreciate ya watching Dale. That's the 1.5g. I think it may be discontinued, Chaparral had it on the shelf, it was dusty when I got it lol.
Greetings from Korea, Im new to bike and I recently reserved Trail 125 from Honda. How often do I have to take out the battery and charge them in the summer? Im expected to ride 30 miles a week for work
Thanks for watching! You shouldn't need to take the battery out to charge at all if you ride it daily. You can also charge it in the bike if it gets weak. About the only time they get weak is if they sit several weeks without riding. You can also look into a "battery tender" as well. It will keep the battery maintained while it sits during winter etc.
@@PSBEadventures Ah I just read about the battery tender and that must be the equipment I should buy if I dont plan to ride this bike for several weeks. Uhm last question, Is it possible to ask you about the tires you have on your bike? Im thinking of Shinko244 2.5 on the front and 3.0 in the rear. Thank you.
@Medic Lars sure thing. Great choice. I have the IRC GP-1s on mine which are very similar to the 244. Really happy with them on and offroad. Here's a little review I did on them. ua-cam.com/video/Hj38_xRC04g/v-deo.html
@@PSBEadventures Thank you and ride safe.
A cycling tire lever would work without scratching the cover.
Great video
@@Phille0tardo thanks for watching!!
Great video as usual 👏
Great video ! Keep up the good work !!
Much appreciated!
Excellent!
Thanks!!
Thank you!
My 125 trail came with a battery tender cable,2022
Awesome! Dealer installed it maybe?
I'm surprised Honda didn't make the plastic easier to remove
Amen to that
My goodness why have they made this process so difficult?
As a technician by trade, it seems it gets harder every year. 😒
so, let’s just say an if an idiot were to have dropped one of the bolts for the battery cover… what size bolt would that idiot look for to replace it?
Pretty sure they are m6x1.0
Good video but can’t see well because you used a wide angle camera instead of regular. Exiting out because of that
Sure is tough being a UA-cam rookie. There is a donation link in the about section! I can use the donation to get a new camera!!! 😁😎
Thanks for stopping by the channel!!
Yellow on white makes it really hard to read the thumbnails.
I was a rookie. Appreciate the tip though!! Hopefully the new ones are better
Saturn? Wut?
Still working on them daily!
what a terrible design
@@ChillyPepper-k6f fun factor of the bike makes up for it
@@PSBEadventures its fun but changing battery was unnecessarily difficult
Thank you!
Anytime!!
The real problem is going to be replacing the battery with the same one ..the problem will be finding one with the positive on the left..most come one right..good luck.
