I've been watching your channel for a while and really enjoy your incite and electronics lessons. It thrills me to see you so exited for a job well done on a very challenging radio project. Great Job!

That receiver is intriguing! British aerospace systems! They were just up the road at Rochester airport!

It is actually a Watkins Johnson of Gaithersburg MD product, bought and rebranded by BAE, a UK based Defense Contractor. I think DRS or Leonardo Now (Italians ) own what is left now.

BAE and several other companies including DRS have owned the original WJ plant and rebranded these radios. I have worked at BAE, Cobham, DRS (Leonardo now) and Codan of Aus., by the way.

I have found that the best way to really learn something, is to go through it step by step, failing and recovering as you go.

Whoot 630m! I signed up, but it may be a few years before I try this. Great to see a working band out in the hinterlands of make-your-own gear hamming.

Think that band would be fun.. Like amateur radio in the '40s and '50s.. there seems little activity in my area, altho it's likely hidden.. I have tons of noise here.. my HF is nearly blanked..
    Thanks for the video

Yes exactly. I made a contact at high noon yesterday with a station 400 miles away. There are so few users that you never know if the band is working or not. And ground wave out to 100 Miles is just crazy good on the band all day.

Congratulations Mike, I just bought the SVA1AFN upconverter, DC to 520 kc to 10 Mc and will use it with a Ten Tec Corsair. I also have an R389, VLF cousin to the R390 receiver.
I am looking for a BC 191 or NDB xmitter but may end up following your lead and homebrew something.

@@youtubeaccount931 Congratulations on pulling on some of the fringe areas of ham radio! There are folks getting in who are fascinated by building and operating the vintage one tube 1920s style equipment !
