How submarine detection is being revolutionised under Aukus

  • The future of Britain's submarine fleet is being reshaped by a trilateral defence agreement known as Aukus, involving the UK, Australia, and the USA.
The next-generation SSN-Aukus submarines, set to be built in the UK and Australia in the 2030s, will exemplify this international collaboration.
Beyond submarines, Aukus has already started revolutionising submarine detection, with a new algorithm allowing shared sonobuoy data processing by the end of this year.

The idea Australia will ever acquire 8!!!!! submarines is RIDICULOUS.
It'll go the same way as the TSR2.

Question; what happens to all these dropped active and passive sonar-buoy's in the world's oceans and seas.
The Americans, British and Nato Forces, or Australians, New Zealanders, Japanese, South Korean, Taiwan and other International Allies Navy's and Air Forces, have deployed over the last 70 years.
There must have been thousands or tens of thousands of deployed Sonar-bouy's over the years.
Do these used and discarded sonar-bouy's just sink to the sea bottom or ocean floor ?
Or will they be wash up, on some beach or coastline sooner or later?
Or do they self-destructe or just blow themselves up, or automatically break apart then the parts sink to the bottom again?
Surely these sonar-bouy's are expensive to make only to be thrown away in the sea once used.
So would it not make sense, to have location GPS beacon built-in to these sonar-bouy's, so at least some of them can be found and recovered too.
Then returned to be refurbished or repaired and serviced, or upgraded and modified. Then returned to service to be deployed again, or drop into the ocean or sea to track more enemy Submarines and Warships or enemy Underwater Unmanned Vehicles (UUV's) too!
Second question; How long does a sonar-bouy's battery last?
Either a few hours, or a few days, or a few weeks, or a few months, or can keep working for a few years?
Also do these Sonar-bouy's, have some kind of electrical recharging system.
A Mine Solar Electic Panel, or Mini Wind Turbine Electric generation system, or more likely a Mini Tidal or Wave Electric Generation system, or even a combination of all three or two of them?
As it would make common sense, for sonar-bouy's, to have a built-in electric-power recharging system, for prolong operational use!
To prolong operational lifespan of their batteries, therefore prolong the Sonar-bouy's listening for enemy submarines or warships or underwater Unmanned vehicles?
Then transmitting ongoing sonar data, back to either Maritime Patrol Aircraft and or Anti-Submarine Helicopters flying in the area?
Or transmitting back to either friendly Warships and Submarines, which are opeating near by too?
Or directly uploading to Military Satellites, who relay the sonar data back to land base monitoring stations, or naval headquarters on the other side of the world if neccessary too!

For the subs they'll be made in Cumbria RN and Adelaide South Australia for the RAN. If there was a diesel version give them to the Japanese Taiwanese and Filipino Navies to contain Chairman Xi's Chinese Navy fleet

AUKUS is a massive mistake for Australia. From a practical point of view we can't afford the AUD380 billion they will cost, we don't have the facilities or infrastructure or manpower to build them (Australia has only ONE nuclear reactor and it's a very small plant used primarily for producing medical products). From a strategic and diplomatic point of view China is our major trading partner. Trade with the USA and the UK is minuscule in comparison. Having "attack class" submarines and being tied up in a dubious defence alliance with the USA these subs can be aimed at only one country - China. Do we really want to destroy our economy to maintain an out-dated alliance with a country whose democracy is under threat? Look at what happened when our previous (conservative) Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, blamed China for the COVID outbreak; China banned imports of many of our agricultural and mineral exports which our present (Labor) government has managed to reverse. Then there is a historical perspective. Admittedly the US came to our aid towards the end of WWII (after the UK had let us down by loosing Singapore and Malaysia to Japan). We have since that time gone to war with the USA on its many adventures in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq (twice) and Afghanistan. And what has the world gained out of those adventures? Nothing!
AUKUS is a massive mistake for Australia. For our AUD380 billion we could have a fleet of German or Korean or Japanese submarines for a quarter of the cost of AUKUS. The remaining three quarters could be spent on health, welfare and much needed domestic infrastructure.
AUKUS is a massive mistake for Australia.

It's great this is happening but the Aussies lost a decade farting around with trying to build their own boats with French "help".

    • @brunol-p_g8800
      @brunol-p_g8800 2 місяці тому +1

Because the US didn’t propose their subs at the time, and even if they did Australia wouldn’t have bought them as they were against nuclear back then.
Also, it wasn’t even a possibility back then, as the transfer of US subs to Australia breaches the non proliferation accord on nuclear weapons because they use highly enriched fuel over 90%.
As for French “help” as you say, it works perfectly fine everywhere around the world.
Just look at Brazil, they launched their third sub with French help, are building the fourth and the fifth that is to be nuclear powered is already being built. Yea it takes time, they had to form Brazilian engineers, workers, help Brazil build a state of the art shipyard dedicated to submarines, etc.
But it has proven to be a wise choice, and Brazil will be the first southern hemisphere country to have an indigenously built nuclear powered attack submarine.

@@brunol-p_g8800 I worked for a battery company about 15 years ago. The Oz sub company came to us about batteries. They thought they could build the subs on their own. This was before they contracted the French. I don't think it's a matter of "offering", I think it's a matter of asking the US and UK before launching their effort.
