Thank you for sharing this. I became an aloe plant mama and mines died this week because of the winter! Made me really sad. After seeing this, I’m hopeful it will grow back again!
This was super helpful. I found one by the side of the road that someone was throwing out and I had to strip back because of rot. Hopefully, I can salvage it.
Thank you so much! I had to do this too in NC and it also broke my heart. They look so bare and sad after the amputation lol. But it gives them more chance to come back and thrive. You're a good plant mama 😊
Exactly what I came here to see. Thank YOU. I'm praying that these random freezes we've had the last few years are not our new normal. The snow is beautiful but we'll have to make some changes in the garden. I'm in zone 9a - NW Houston.
This was super helpful! And it made me feel better about my huge aloe that suffered frost damage. He looked hopeless but I found a tiny little green sprout after severing his long, floppy leaves off. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼he’ll recover. Lesson learned! Thanks for posting this! 🌱
@@KitanaTulip Aww-thanks for asking. He’s not doing so great, but he is still alive. Exercising patience & hoping for the best. Luckily, my original aloe had had pups-which I have in small pots inside my house. So-even if he doesn’t make it, I guess his kids will live on. 🙂
I saved most of mine bu covering them and out a small heater under the tent I made for them. Unfortunately, it did not work as well this year and I lost a few but most just lost some arms. Lots of new pups though. That is the best part about aloe vera, they give you lots of babies.
We here in Atlanta had a freeze a week before Christmas and it damaged a large agave plant (4' or more in diameter, about 3-4' in height) in a island (entrance/exit) flower bed at the beginning of our subdivision. I remember seeing a long time resident cutting the leaves down last spring, I thought he was killing it, but he said, he was maintaining it. I planted 10 Purple Queens plants on one end of the bed about 3 years ago, now they grow back up nice and pretty every spring, and I lay 10 bags of Red Bark mulch 3/4 of the bed. There is the subdivision name brick signage which a drunk driver hit and ran about 5 years ago. They caught the front of it as you're turning into the subdivision. I'm a Real Estate Investor, so I use my company card just to clean it up and make it look like something. The older gentleman and his wife moved out their house and move to a Senior Community closer to their daughter but he comes back to check on their house while it's on the market. I just pulled the dead leaves out, it wasn't hard, and threw them into the woods across the street, biodegradable, 3-4 nice long green stalks STILL there. But one question ⁉️ the base looks open, should I buy a couple of large bags of potting or Garden Soil to cover the base?? It looks exposed, I was able to pull the dead leaves away from the plant, but there's a LOT of green which I thought was a good thing. I should have look at this video first. I'll look forward to your response. Thank you in advance.
I love the purple queen plants, those within stand everything!!!! As per your question, yes I would personally cover the base just to secure it. I hope that helps. Have a great day!
I'm in North Texas and have to bring my aloe in every year because we always freeze. I was researching to see if I could be lazy this year and ground my aloes finally. Nope! Seeing it happen to you even down there confirms for me that I just need to take that step each year. They are making so many pups when kept outside that I can't keep up!
@@priscillakhloeandabigailva6145 I've been bringing them in and out for about 7 years now no problem. They do go through a little shock, but they will be better than anything in a few weeks.
@@priscillakhloeandabigailva6145 Also to add, here in North Texas, I just put mine out last weekend. I haven't lost an aloe yet over the years, but if anything I am getting too many since they multiply like crazy if you have them outside, especially in a confined place. Love them!
I lost my hole greenhouse about 4 thousand plants on Christmas Eve I was sick i Live in va it got 5 below windchill was -32 cactus every kinda succulent u can think of plus my moms aloe she had for years and I was hoping to save atleast hers
How do they look now I live in Texas too and am just getting to my plants in pots but they had a bit of damage that I’m learning how to bring them back
Okay so my aloe went through cold temperatures in my sun room while I wasn’t home but it’s not as grey as your was in the video, it is however squishy at the ends of the of the leaves should I still cut them off? And there is some discoloration
2nd freeze last week in TExas and my poor Aloe besides my gardenia, my ficus, my bouganvilla...and my little assorted plants are ka poot... hoping there is green on the aloe...was hoping having been frozen outside I could cut the leaves and freeze and use but apparently you can't. OK...anyhow, HAPPY NEW YEAR tonight...and GOd willing no more freeze anywhere.

Thanks for sharing! I'm in south Louisiana and we've had some wild weather too. Weather manipulation is a real thing unfortunate. We're at war right now.. spiritually, biologically, technologically.. information war too lol. Its bad. But my aloe recently woke thru its first weekend of bad frost but just the very tips of the leaves are droopy and miscolored like yours. Should I be cutting just the tips off or leave it alone lol?? Idk what the heck to do lol.. Bless you!
Yes, I’m glad it helped. All my aloe came back after the freaky storm. I’ve been meaning to make an updated video. Thank you for reminding me. God Bless-Marcela

How do they do when they come back outside? Mine has been indoors and is now turning a bit brown when I brought it outside

They will bonce back quick if not already have lets have a up date respect 😊
I’m so so sad for your aloes, they were so big! I hope you can regrow them
Can you do a follow up video on how your aloe is doing now?
Yes of course. Great idea!
I'm looking for one now

SO Sorry for your loss. Hopefully it didn’t discourage you enough to not Recon, Regroup, & Regrow. Best of Wishes.✌🏼
Stack the dead bits arou😊nd the plant so the plant can take the goodness back into the aloe .
They do get snow in Texas. It depends on where you are in Texas.
this is soooo sad :((( mine just died indoors in Berlin, being too close to window
Can you still use the aloe from the dead parts or is it no good?
I need to know too!
Sorry for your plants Cela 😥

@carikshawn4201 I was hoping to be able to still use mine too using the same logic. But as soon as I cut a leaf off I knew by the smell... Really bad

Same thing just happened here in Texas with my aloe! It got a haircut.
yep same exact thing happen to mine and my cactus died.
How are your aloes doing after the major trim? I had snow and my aloes are all affected. Maybe I can hope they will be ok.
Use the cut leaves to mulch the plant & they also feed the plant. True for all plants. Shalom!
