Russia's two biggest opera stars, Anna Netrebko and Dmitriy Khvorostovsky, are performing for the first time in Moscow's Red Square. They sing Verdi, Puccini and Tchaikovsky, bringing the audience to a stunned silence with the despairing aria from "Eugene Onegin". Front-row tickets were sold for as much as $1,100 for the show, which is also broadcast in Russia, France and Germany. The State Academic Symphony Orchestra or Russia and Grand Choir "Masters of Choral Singing" are conducted by Constantine Orbelian.

I cannot believe the negative comments here! Don´t you really see the natural talent, the real great and free voice, the happiness she feels while singing, and the happiness she transmits to the audience, the beauty of voice and singing, the dramatic and very sensual way of interpretation... ? Perhaps you have a problem with your ears.
And please stop with this cult for the past and the Callas, Tebaldi and whatever. Life is now, open your eyes and see that the new Callas, Tebaldi ect have the same greatness and above all... they LIVE!
Eli Jordano Some standards were set up very high by that very talented and hardworking generation and the fact that nowadays most of singers lack even proper technique, doesn't mean that demanding listeners have to tollerate ammateurish attempts on great music, just because The Greats passed away. Anna Netrebko has a really beautiful voice as she is, but she does WAY TOO MUCH mistakes plus she rarely sings repertoire proper for her voice type.
Few fine singers like this are still around nowadays.

What is Netrebko thinking? One thing is that this Aria is not for her voice. Another, however, is pushing your voice to sound bigger than it actually is. Vocally, this is a disaster. Go watch Eva Marton or Maria Callas to hear the way this aria should sound.

Un massacro. Il fatto non è che Anna Netrebko non è la Callas. Il fatto è che Anna Netrebko non è una cantante. Respirazione grossolana (con conseguente voce non appoggiata), intonazione dubbiosa, e secondo me già questo può bastare. La sua gestualità poi, lascia intuire che nemmeno sapesse cosa stesse cantando. E magari non può farci molto ma ha un'apparenza veramente volgare. Non riesco veramente a capire tanta popolarità.
L'unica che si avvicina alla Callas e' la Gheorghiu nell'interpretare questa aria
nell'interpretare quest'aria sono daccordo ma nel complesso l'unica che poteva competere con la callas era la tebaldi almeno secondo il mio parere poi rispetto le opignoni di tutti

This was as about as exciting as watching a sliced apple turn brown. I do not understand the appeal of this woman. She mocks the art of operatic singing and gets applauded for it.

Discuss away, I never implied you could not. It's really just pointless to discuss as the individual likes what the individual like whether or not it is universally the case. It's kind of pointless to discuss in that regard.
