My story is very similar. I was first diagnosed as a type 2 and put on Januvia, metformin and Jardiance. These medications controlled by BG's for about a year and then my A1C started creeping up again and I began to lose more weight. I had lost 20 pounds within a month prior to diagnosis. I was then tested for type 1 autoantibodies which came back positive for GAD. That's when my diagnosis officially changed from type 2 to type 1.5 (or LADA). Like you, I'm now taking long lasting and meatime insulin and this is keeping by BG's in range. I also wear a Dexcom CGM which alerts me if my BG's go too high or too low. I know what you mean about being afraid of eating different foods because you don't know how it will affect you. Having to do MDI's and monitor your BG constantly is a LOT of work. I'm hoping that treatments for diabetes will easier. Take care.
