*EDIT* Only after posting the video have I become aware that ‘clean girl’ was a style in the Black and Latin cultures decades ago, it’s not just a cute trend, it isn’t inclusive and it’s just another thing that is being gentrified. It’s a beautiful look that everyone can enjoy but the history needs to be recognised. Thanks for understanding while I learn x

I am mixed race, raised in England and California but made my home in Scotland, and tbh beauty has always been a sociopolitical issue. There's so much to learn from women's insecurities from each and every culture and how they use hair and make-up to transcend them and support each other. I learned JOY and boldness from Scottish girls and how to cherish the colour of my skin here. I felt more oppressed by historical convention and rules in Cali, to be honest. Just do whatever look makes you feel confident, free and unstoppable. Thank you, Jamie, for always being your beautiful self and making self-care feel achievable.

Personally I don’t get why people are upset about this “historical” look. It’s just makeup , it’s just a bun. I feel like we have to get out of the way of these standards. I mean at least not getting upset or putting someone down for it. Not everyone is curious and wondering where a name came from. Good for you guys for knowing history, I’m a Latina myself and didn’t know this came from black and brown communities or was a Chicano style that guy made fun of. All we can do is spread awareness and be like “you know these looks were actually done back in the day from our communities. I’m glad we’re all coming together to bring love and admiration to it, it shows how much our society has grown to not think into too much of silly things like that”. At the end of the day we all have our own style. Some like simple , some like drama and the glamour. Let’s all be kind people.
@@espem88 thank you , from my perspective it seems like people are putting Shane on not being educated. I don’t know about you , but History is not my strongest subject , Its always been hard for me to concentrate. Not because I’m being ignorant and not wanting to know about the culture. I mean truthfully It’s about the style of communication that we’re spreading. I feel I myself should be educated more on Chicano history and learn more about my roots , but let’s be honest even if I do I’m not going to put shame in to someone for not knowing about the history. It’s beautiful that we as a society are learning more and spreading awareness, my main point is to just be more compassionate about the way we say it.
So I hate the clean girl look for myself. Like I loathe idea (for me) but again this is just a weird form of people hating on women for anything they do.
People are always getting offended about something! To me this is so similar to when Jamie did her off duty model make up and no one thought anything of it. Now all of a sudden because it’s a TickTock trend branded “clean girl” it’s controversial. I’m sure there are lots of different people from all walks of life who do their hair and makeup like this on a regular basis and they aren’t offending or stealing from anyone. It’s just their style and it’s attractive to others so others copy it.
I think the issue arises from the fact that when black and brown girls did do it it was seen as ghetto and now labeling it the "clean girl" aesthetic is making it seem as if it was dirty and now it's clean. I think people should stop trying to police how a culture feels about always being put on the back burner and instead just choose to educate themselves. She left an article in the description, I recommend reading. If learning about history to become a more thoughtful individual is too much of a hassle for some of you, that's concerning. If learning the roots of a makeup look takes the fun out of it for you, that's concerning. Being educated is not hurting anyone.
point is - ppl are rebranding it as a "clean girl" yes it's trendy now; but the point is to bring awareness that it was derived from latino culture bc this is how WE (LATINOS) were viewed as dirty or not groomed unless we slicked back our textures hair. It's Cultural History, not a "trend"

I could no more do a 'clean girl' look than fly to the moon. I am a child of the 60's and some things just stick...A barely there look just isn't me, much to the annoyance of my offspring 😄😄!

I agree that "clean" almost always translates into dainty, delicate, hairless, tamed, under control, etc. As someone who is more wild and less groomed, I sometimes find it oppressive. It's not just a look - there can be an underlying commentary about the social consensus on what it means to be "feminine". It's ok to love it and question it! As we can and should with all beauty and fashion! On a side note - girl turn that mousse bottle upside down when you use it or you'll release all the Co2 and there will be product left in the bottle unable to spray out!

Have you tried the grow gorgeous hair serum?? I have a sensitive scalp sometimes and I don’t feel it irritating at all. And it actually makes the hair feel and smell gorgeous. I’m not convinced it does anything for growth, but it definitely leaves the hair beautifully hydrated. They have a good range of heat protection and serums etc and I absolutely love it. I’m the same Witt having to have light hair around my face. I just look way to harsh if I’m my natural colour all over.

Oh man... I had an undercut several years ago that was half way up...I dreaddededd the grow out so I cut it short. Then, I said ef it and shaved it all off. Best decision ever 😅

Oh my gosh growing out an undercut is horrendous... I've got a fairly short bob and it took over 6 months for my undercut to grow out to my normal hair length!! Apparently turning your head upside down and brushing your hair for about two minutes a day helps grow it quicker xx
