    Learned this knot from a Cabellas magazine in 1982. Used it for everything last 40 years.

      Ever since I learned this its all I use, its so easy with only one knot for all! I also use it for my shock leader and it works ok although the knot is a little big.

    I use that knot all the time. With braided line, I do 5 turns. It has never failed me 👍

      @@marcuslarwa9098 oh I've lost fish but not because of that knot. That knot has never failed me. Been cut off from toothy fish, busted off for a variety of reasons but never because the knot failed me.

      @@leonbachman5345 I did try up to 10 then kept backing off until I reached 5 - braided line that is. The only time it failed me was during the time I was just learning to tie it. I didn't cinch down tight enough.
      With mono, I do 4 wraps. I know folks do 3 but I'll take the extra wrap for peace of mind.

    The uni knot is very useful, especially when using a double uni knot for joining line, but for terminal tackle the Palomar knot is smaller, easier to tie and just as strong, if not stronger. I recommend checking out some videos on how it's tied.

    6 is the magic number for me on the wraps. I've tried 3, 4, & 5, and they all eventually failed on me, 6 has never yet.

    I've used an improved clinch knot for over 55 years and never had a knot fail. I have no doubt that her knot is stronger, but it's hard for me to tie since I don't wear glasses while I'm fishing. I use it in fresh and saltwater.

      @@whipporwill2303 that's not true. I literally go fish everyday. Going through the eyelid twice makes it easier to retrieve lines caught in branches or bushes. More support on the hook.

    I have used this knot for close to 40 years on dry flies, wet flies, & nymphs. Never had one fail. I've used it with tippets as small as 8x.

    I call it a Figure 6 knot so I can remember how it should look before looping. I loop it 6 times also!

    You forgot the best part, you can do this below the eye and Snell the hook if you so desire!!

    Where I come from, we call that a "Duncan Loop," useful for attaching a second hook and leader. A Uni Knot would be essentially two of those, useful for attaching mono to braid.

      Depends on what type of guides you have on your reel. For my Bass rods I would not use a Uni for a nylon to braid leader. it creates to large of a profile and can get hung up on the micro guides. An FG knot is the best for Nylon leader to Braid. Its doesn't get hung up because the Nylon line is never looped or doubled up to get hung up on guides.

    This seems like a easy knot to use. I'll definitely be trying this. I usually use the palomar knot. But when ur cold or trying to tie it fast it can be a little bit of a pain.

    You can also use it as a swivel knot. Sinch it down then pull it back off the eye just a bit to create a loop. This works fantastic for small baits and flies that need more action in their presentation.

    This is the first knot I was ever taught to tie as a kid and is the only knot I also tie today. I also vary the # of loops I make depending on how heavy of test I’m using. Maybe it’s a superstition, but I only tie an odd # of loops. The only state record (truth be told it was probably a world record) I’ve ever had break this knot is when I used an even # of loops.

      If you're using Mono Palomar is better. Too much friction tying this one. Lost a good number of fish due to break offs with this and similar knots... Never lost a fish due to a break off with a palomar.

    Yeah, definitely the only knot I've used in years, especially uni to uni and I use surgeon knots and those hoop knots to just cross over with a weight or something but uni is superior to them all in my experience.

    I have always used to clinch knot or maybe an improved clinch knot works for sturgeon works for small trout works for flyfishing. After 35 years of using that knot I have only lost fish trying other knots I’m sure it works for most

    I just use an old fashioned anglers knot. 43 years and hasn't failed me yet. I suppose this would be easier/faster to tie. I'm gonna be honest, I won't try it, but I would recommend a new angler to try it.

    On a properly tied uni knot the tag end should come straight out the top along side and parallel to the main line.

    The Uni knot is my go to when the things get fast like when you have group of tuna dolphin, or whatever comes to the chum

    For those of you that aren’t completely hooked on the lube line. She’s wrong. 3 turns on a uniknot is not enough. Guaranteed to slip. Minimum off 6 turns on every UNI.

    Good for slab bait or trolling whole fish as bait. Pefection loop better for live bait swimming freely. For the "Uni" a single wrap is improved by double through the eyelet, doubling breaking strength. Keep moist when drawing knot to set tho

    Only 3 turns? What pound test uses 3 turns? I typically use 7 turns for 6# to 30# test mono and braid. Is this wrong?

      Thats what I was wondering. I use 6 to 10 depending on mono or braid. More with braid and I tuck the tail back thru the bottom to it don't grab grass especially in lakes. Of course with 550 paracord, 3 might be okay.. lol

      we use 3 turns every 24/7/365, double the line or wraps or both for braid. Every fish you see in 900 vids is three turns

    Do that but put the loop up the hook and rap it around the hook about five times then back through the eye of the hook and throw the loop close to the top of the hook and pull till tight and it will never break
