I feel that PRX has a pretty enormous attachment to the personality of their players. PRX became famous for W-gaming, and it's crazy fame won't last without it. It behooves PRX as an org to keep this team and style, after all, they were #1 in bundle sales because of it.
@wonyo2563 they got APAC trophy But you forget that esport is business driven entertainment, this is how they create value proposition different from other
I think Paper Rex’s time to actually win an international tournament with the same roster is shrinking every year. This year alone, we saw numerous Pacific teams really step up and improve. I know GenG is the most famous example but DRX made roster moves mid season and managed to be the best performing Pacific team at champs, and now we’re seeing more roster moves made by T1, GE, GenG again, and now with both Sin Prisa Gaming and Boom Esports both joining the Pacific league, it’s going to be even more competitive and ruthless within the Pacific region itself. Obviously having stronger and better opponents as your regional competition will make for better practice and prep for teams at the international stage, but it also means that Paper Rex (assuming they continue this downward slope) will soon not even be making it to international tournaments at all, which will be insane considering they’ve made it to every international since 2022. I think the team struggles a lot with team coordination, big maps and being able to keep up with meta changes. It’s easy to brush this year’s terrible performance and say that Jingg just came into the season late but many teams made mid season roster changes, one of those teams being Team Heretics. They didn’t win anything but they were consistently top 2 minimum since Shanghai. I do believe that 2025 will be the last year we see this roster together if they fail to get results
I agree completely, you also have to factor in stagnation. How many losses can they shrug off without at some point thinking the team is the problem, new blood could easily revive the team or kill it, but changing nothing and then achieving nothing will absolutely kill the team. With their history, past performances, and fan base I think they've earned another shot in 25, idk bout any more than that tho.
@ I honestly really wish they kept Monyet instead of Jingg. I know Jingg is one of the best raze players of all time but Monyet’s agent pool is so much better than Jingg’s that I believe he’s a more valuable player overall. The other agents Monyet can play are mostly within the controller role, meaning the team can be more flexible having Something as the primary duelist on the jett maps while Monyet flexes onto smokes. I’m honestly pretty disappointed with PRX and them deciding to keep Jingg. I think, in order for this roster to actually improve and keep up, Jingg needs to expand his agent pool and become the full time primary duelist while Something focus on initiator or Jingg learns agents outside the duelist role, whether that be sentinel, smokes or initiator, as long as it doesn’t overlap with Something’s agents.
I'm just saying but maybe the only way they actually start to improve is by failing to qualify for any masters or even champions. They are pretty comfortable with their current roster to the point they're letting mistakes through. Obviously roster change is not the answer to everything but changing up the "vibe" or "atmosphere" can at least help. I also think a bit of "ego" or overconfidence in them being one of the reason they're worse than previous season (2022-2023). Like ever since they made 2nd in Champs LA, all they're thinking about is lifting an international trophy. There's nothing wrong with having a clear objective to succeed but I genuinely feel like they prioritize the "lifting trophy" mentality over their improvement and more importantly their core identity A.K.A "W Gaming".
then you not watched prx from start. and your mid season fact is wrong. heretics practiced with both woot and patitek from the off season. and drx roster move is from academy roster which is do the same. edg did player change but it matched their chemistry more(normally not happening for every team). and your fact that playing best teams in season will make ez to play international is wrong too. because if your league has higher skill level you have to give it all, like reveal all your agent comps strats like things. it was easier to counter strat those things when going to internationals
@@nilakshachandula7185 Everything which you mentioned about the roster changes are STILL roster changes that affect how the team will play and perform, regardless of where the player came from and how long they’ve been practicing with them beforehand because they weren’t there for their official games. And PRX were practicing with Jingg in the offseason even when they knew he was going to be leaving before Monyet took over, so I really don’t get what point you’re trying to make. And I didn’t say it’ll be easier for teams to make it to internationals at Pacific, I said it’d be HARDER because these teams making huge roster moves obviously want to win meaning the regional competition will be more strict and difficult to get through, something PRX has never had to deal with before because the other Pacific teams have always been so weak. And sure, other teams from other regions can counter strat and prep for your comp and ideas but, if you’re truly a good team, counter strating alone shouldn’t be able to beat you and that should be a hurdle the team should be able to overcome if they actually want to win a tournament

@@bastidota I'm not saying they must change but if they do want to win then change it because this just means that they're not even trying to win so they don't deserve to win
One theory I have is that for next season they will put Jinggg on pure duelist entry and have something/davai/forsaken flex around the different initiator roles. something's streams have been full of sova and he's already proved that he's good with gekko and breach. Jingg is just suited for entry because he just full sends it in and has great reaction time. He used to play jett on SMG before he went to PRX so he can definitely play jett/raze/neon. This would obviously hinder their double duelist comps but man it's 2024, double duelist just doesnt work anymore and you need 2 initiators to set you up on almost all the maps
I do think the objectively correct decision is more structure but I disagree with needing a roster change for it; 1. PRX as an org knows how invaluable this roster is not just to their identity, but their bottom line. Every prx fan I have interacted with in the last 3 seasons are fans of the roster specifically and ik for a fact many would leave to follow their favourites wherever they go. Having kept the roster this long was beneficial for building said identity, but it has also pigeonholed them. 2. Imo I could easily see forsaken, davai, or mindfreak fulfill the igl role for this team, they don't have to go to the opposite end of the spectrum and make their team revolve around a boaster like igl, they just need a dedicated dude to keep them in line and these players have proven themselves as leaders when the team needed them already. Theres nothing stopping the others from being great mid round callers they just need one dude to have priority on said calls imo. One final point tho, I think this is the last season they can justify this core roster sticking around, I believe they will win, but that's a biased statement from a fan.
I feel like the point about specializing their agents was one of their biggest issues this year. By the end of the season I was noticing that the timing of key pieces of util was consistently too late and it felt like they just hadn't had enough time to practice some of the agents they played. Fingers crossed they'll be able to hit the new season with some extra polish and come out swinging

w gaming needs to evolve for them to succeed. I don't think it's a simple as 'they need an igl' or 'alecks needs help'. it's an inherent problem with the team identity and culture. EDG is the most prominent example of this, considering how they tried to wane off of their identity, proceeded to fail miserably, and then went back to it with a different execution that clicked and resulted in them winning Champions with the most dominant Sunset and Lotus we've ever seen. FPX is also an interesting case to look at, since them and PRX are two sides of the same coin. FPX looked towards reinventing their comps and roles and shot up their international performance because they weren't running double duelist and inting. Meta changes or map pool changes aren't going to help on their own; they need to get with the present and lock in on modernizing

I think, things were certainly not in favour of prx last season, this team can still go toe to toe with the best. I felt that amidst incompatible meta and jingg's transition to the team in the middle of the season, paper rex struggled to get into their element. Moreover, the loss to G2, over the heartbreak of last year's champ, broke something within them as they started questioning their playstyle. I think if raze wasn't nerfed, jingg would have had easier time settling into the team and team would have performed well definitely. They have time to figure things out in this off season and I believe we will definitely see a better version of them. I am excited to see what they have been cooking.
