i was trying to find a way to correct your pronunciation of "Kawaii" without using a link... and I think I have it: Rhyme it with the phrase "Glad to see" repeat "Kawaii.. glad to see" with it rhyming. To a Japanese speaker, you're pronouncing it more like Kowai, which means scary. Thank you, love your reactions to BM!!! Remember, Cute Metal, not Scary Metal.
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏃♀👹 The growls on the first and third album are uncredited. The musician listed in BABYMETAL credits as TAKEMETAL (Takeru Youda) did growls on the second album. He also co-wrote the music for 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' on the first record. Budokan 2014 had an eight sided stage. That's an octagon. A pentagram is a five pointed star. Yui and Moa have mentioned that it took a lot of concentration to dance on the spinning stage. It's really impressive they did this while also smiling throughout the show. The platform in the middle that Su was on for much of the song didn't rotate, so she had to keep turning to stay in the right relationship to the other two members.
They are playing a mix of the Japanese versions of hide-and-seek ("kakurenbo", which is heard in the lyrics) and tag ( _oni_ gokko). Both the seeker of hide-and-seek and the tagger of tag are called "oni" (= ogre), which is heard repeatedly as "oni-san" in the song. There's a Japanese anime from 2005 called Kakurenbo which involves kids playing while wearing fox masks.
Good reaction. 'Catch Me If You Can' is the best metal song about playing a game that's a sort of cross between tag, blind man's bluff and hide & seek I've ever heard. It is the perfect mix of the two extremes with the brutal instrumentals and the sweet vocals - and the game they are playing, they're playing with an Oni👹 (a sort of Japanese ogre popular in regional festivals and used specifically to frighten children ... and the idea of that probably amuses me a lot more than it really should 😁). The growling vocals (they are mostly anonymous and on a backing track) are the Oni asking things like "Are you ready?" and the best response has to be "Maada da yo" (No, not yet) while doing a running away from an Oni dance.🏃♀🏃♀🏃♀👹
Opinion: The Oni you are referring to is "Namahage", this is a traditional Japanese ritual where men dress up as scary demon-like figures, wearing ogre masks (blue or red) and wielding large knives. They visit homes during New Year’s Eve, asking if there are any misbehaving children. The purpose is to scare children into behaving well and to encourage good behavior throughout the year.
Great reaction, thanks! "Catch me if you can" is one of their heaviest songs instrumentally, and yes I agree: the extreme juxtaposition of these instrumentals and the cute vocals and choreo is key here. The choreo is also a fan favorite. And man, "Moa crab shuffle" + "Moa slide" is the best piece of choreo ever made. 🤣 This song and specific performance was my very first BABYMETAL song and it hooked me from the first second. I hope you also watched the live version of "My Graduation Toss" from Su's graduation ceremony. It's something else... 🤘🦊
This was Budokan Black Night 2014 ("Legend Doomsday"), which took place the day after Budokan Red Night 2014 ("Giant Corset Festival"). The latter was (as the masked Koba explained in the onscreen prologue) a thematic continuation of BM's first solo show (Corset Festival in 2012), while the former announced the end of Metal Resistance Chapter 1 (& that BM would continue their 'mission' overseas). Sold-out 10,000 shows on both nights, & together with 'Legend 1997' in end-2013, they marked the emergence of BM as a genuine arena-sized headliner act (having played solo gigs at smaller livehouses up to that point). As well, the two shows took place a couple days after the 'Babymetal' studio album was released, with them performing all its songs live for the first time (including Song 4 & Rondo Of Nightmare). Koba had also nicely introduced (& had the spotlight shining on) the Kami Band before the first night kicked off. The guitarists at these concerts were Takayoshi Ohmura & Leda Cygnus. Omura had gained some overseas recognition prior (as part of Marty Friedman & Taiwanese superstar A-Mei's tour bands), while Leda was actually an earlier Kami regular than the late Mikio Fujioka (who joined up only later but would have seniority as mentor to the band). BTW Yui also got overexcited & accidentally fell off the stage during the penultimate song (Headbanger) at Red Night, leaving Su & Moa to finish it as a duo. She recovered in time to join the finale (IDZ) & didn't look the worse for wear the next day at Black Night (which you just reacted to).
Since you asked, Momo has never performed this song. CMIYC was never performed live again after Yui stopped performing in 2017. The last time it was played live was was at the White Fox Festival on August 30th 2017 in Osaka. The male harsh vocals on the first two albums are uncredited, so we don't know who it is. Yui and Moa looked very alike when they were young, but became more different as they got older. Yui was definitely the shyest of the three; I think the level of fame they achieved was never something she really got comfortable with. Yui was definitely the most kawaii part of Babymetal and they lost a part of that early magic when she departed, but the group has evolved and morphed into something new and just as compelling but different; less cute and more cool.
And Yui being shy is a myth, watch her on all the Japan TV shows 2012-13 when the girls were still in there black/red kimono's, she was the most energetic, talkative and outgoing of the 3 And Hilarious, that's why So many miss and Love her
This is such an incredible performance. And another way you can tell it's and early one is the predominance of red in their outfits. As they grew older they grew out of the red. I don't claim to know the story completely but. I believe "tagger" is the ogre with whom they're playing hide and seek. LIke I said not completely sure but that's what I've come to understand. You have a great energy in your reactions. Always fun.
They have an ogre caged up backstage doing the screaming . Yui looks a little nervous hoping the ogre doesn't escape . Yui doesn't like ogres , demons or ghosts . Nice reaction thank you .

The way I see it CMIYC is one the most beloved BM song because was from Yui era, they played till 2017, on future live performance the girls started doing the growls in kawai voice(To me it got much better). I think now that BM is back with 3 girls formation they will eventually play it live again, people will go crazy bonkers with the famous Moa slides under Su (she will probably throws Su into orbit)
My impression of Yui from interviews is that she was actually more outspoken and expressive than Moa, she just comes across as shy in performances. Except for Sis Anger, in which she appears to primary handle the vocals. It's part of the "Black Babymetal" project, and is one of their heaviest songs.
In order for Momo to perform this song with Su and Moa, the entire song would have to be re-recorded from scratch to create the backing tracks as well as update the synth/midi to complement the sound of the Western Kami Band.
You should check out Kiba of Akiba - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai and the follow that up with Babymetal's cover of it. Kiba also did a cover of Gimme Chocolate
This song has the infamous Moa crab shuffle, sadly in this version you can't really see it. It happens right at the point you pause saying you need subtitles, when they're in a line facing center stage and Yui steps out to the right, Moa shuffles toward Su to fill the gap and it looks like she levitates if you can't see her feet.
The only reason this version is suggested is for the Intro, Legend 97 is the one to watch, the girls crush and the crowd hype when they hit the stage is next lev
Everyone on Discord was begging for this song back with the new trio. It'd be great to give Momo the Oni parts... and I wanna see if Moa can still slide under Su lol
Why they already do all the classics, I predict this will not be performed live again ever, it'll be like Tale of the Destines after Mikio. Catch is an original trio song, it should be retired with Sis Anger
You can tll the difference by looking at the walkways around the stage. The first day there were only railings around the triangular openings towards the middle stage. After the accident they added railings on the outside of the walkways towards the audience. We don't know exactly what heppened, she could have tripped over one of the lights mounted on the walkways (this nearly happened to Momo last year I think) or maybe the floor was slippery. Which caused Moa to fall on her back at the beginning of Ijime, Dame, Zettai right after Yui's accident happened during Headbanger. While Yui looked OK after coming back on stage Moa had visible pain and tears in her eyes.
Lets get one thing out of the way Yui was and will always be the 🐐. AND Eastern IS the Kami Band. You did Catch me now you have to do Megitsune from the same concert

For whatever reason, they have never been allowed to do one again. But yet the West were allowed to do them starting in 2019.. Partly I think because the East Kami were getting more popular at the show and management wanted more focus on the girls. The last time the East Kamis have played for BM was in Jan 2023. They filmed the show for a DVD and there's not one full Kami member shot through the whole show. Growls are just studio back tracks. Momo really doesn't growl live, She screams along with her post production backtrack.
You are putting Kami band conspiracies out there without convincing proof. They all knew back then that the eastern kami band would slowly be retired in favour of the western kami band, who were younger and willing to travel the world for long periods. It's also obvious that the idea to put the girls front and centre (more prominently in japanese concerts anyway) would have been planned way in advance. 'Managment' is Koba, Amuse have no intrest in these things. This idea that Koba got jealous of the Kamis and cucked them is baseless. They wouldn't allow themselves to be disrespected and Koba wouldn't want to disrespect them. Their lack of visibility in blu-rays is highly likely more to do with their new contract agreements as they are being phased out than anything to do with bitterness. The eastern kamis already got a big career boost through working with Babymetal, they don't need to prove anything. They have lives and careers outside of Babymetal, and don't want to be forever known as just being members of the kami band.
@@Ryujin170 I did say "I think.. " Nothing based on Fan fodder or Simp Stories.. I say from what I see and reality ... Based on your analogy, you can say the same thing for what you said. Unless you are on the management team?.... 🤔
@@radioraffa But i didn't create a conspiracy. What i said was either based on know facts or reasonable probability based around the facts. Your theory is a conspiracy if its only based on thinking Amuse control every aspect of Babymetal and resented the kami band's popularity. Managment and production are two seperate things when it comes to Babymetal. If the kami band were so popular then why didn't concert attendance drop when they changed the dynamics? Why would they want to get rid of something they thought boosted concert attendance in the first place?. It's all about the western kami band (who already wore masks) replacing the eastern kami band and their contracts changing at the start of Matal galaxy era. Koba or Amuse can't do anything to them that they haven't already agreed to in their contracts. This is Japan not N. Korea. Disrespect is the very last thing Japanese want.
@@radioraffa What type of response was that? am i supposed to be 'owned'? What is it you think isn't true? The eastern kami band being replaced by the western? renewal of contracts? the Japanese culture of respect? the western kamis wearing masks before Babymetal? The only thing i'm confused about is how you think facts aren't true, but baseless conspiracy theories are 'reality'.

@@Ryujin170 What Facts do you have? From the Fox God?? 😁 😂
@@radioraffa What type of response was that? am i supposed to be 'owned'?
What is it you think isn't true? The eastern kami band being replaced by the western? renewal of contracts? the Japanese culture of respect? the western kamis wearing masks before Babymetal? The only thing i'm confused about is how you think facts aren't true, but baseless conspiracy theories are 'reality'.
the way you tell its old baby metal is there like 12
I hope that Kami Band comes back because the current one doesn't even come close to the real one.
