Back in the days of O & A, when Jesse came on as a guest, Jesse and Jim got into a heated argument over Jesse’s statement that the US should not have invaded Afghanistan (let alone Iraq) after 9/11. Jimmy said he agreed with Jesse on Iraq, but completely disagreed on Afghanistan, feeling like the US armed forces had to respond to the attacks on 9/11, as Afghanistan was known to be harboring the terrorists who plotted the attacks, including Osama bin Laden who, at the time, WAS in Afghanistan still. Jimmy said the US would’ve looked like wimps if we did NOT go into Afghanistan and Jesse, who politically is totally against invading other countries unless the country declares war on the US first (which Afghanistan did not do), got personal with Jimmy saying, “It’s always the guys who never served in the military (referencing Jimmy) who always want to act all big and bad and blow everyone else apart.” Jimmy, of course, took offense to that and gave it right back to Jesse by arguing back that just because he (Jimmy) “didn’t serve”,
does that mean he can’t form his own political opinion about how the US military should respond to the worst terrorist attack in US history? The heated argument went on for awhile and upon Jesse leaving the studio, Jesse (who happened to be seated right next to Jimmy) put his hand firmly on Jimmy’s shoulder (not in the most friendly of ways), then, as he walked out of the exit door of the studio, Jesse sarcastically says to Jimmy:
“Thank you for your service”.
Jimmy quickly responds that Jesse, with his unique hair style at that time, looked like a character from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”.
That’s why Anthony has so much fun taking the pee out of Jesse Ventura, as even though the fight was mostly between Jesse and Jimmy, Anthony was agreeing completely with Jimmy, and the remark Jesse made that: “It’s always the guys who never served who always wanna act big and bad and invade anyone and everyone,” that this remark was aimed at Anthony as well, as neither Anthony nor Jimmy served in the US military unlike Jesse, who fought in Viet Nam and was a Navy SEAL.
Sorry for such a long-winded response.
