    John Deere used the screaming Jimmy Detroit in the 8020.

      I am trying to release a video each day. I have not even shown half the spring corn planting I filmed yet. The 8010/8020 are the big GM machines. I stated in the video there were 8 John Deere models that were not Deere powered. The 8020 and WA-17 and WA-14 are cool 60s Deere 4wds.

    My son has an 8960 exactly like this , plenty of power out of that Cummins but they've had plenty of hydraulic issues last few years , nothing runs forever without some problems!! We're in West Central Illinois also, probably not to far away. That Miller disk is a real plowing machine if that's what you need! Thanks for bringing us the "vintage" stuff!!

    BTP when I finished watching this video, I was looking through the recommended videos on the right hand side of my screen. There at the bottom was a video from 2013 of a JD 8960. It was very short (1:35 min.) and also had a combine with a Shelbourne header. I must have missed it when it first came out. Same tractor?

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 років тому +1

      That was a fun day in the field back in 2013. The S690 combine on that Shelbourne was brand new. It was the second year the S600s were on the market. The 8960 in that video was working in Western Kentucky. Unfortunately the farm that had the 8960 in the wheat harvest video was completely destroyed by a tornado. They retired from farming. The Shelbourne in that 8960 video was recently shown again here on BTP on a 9670STS combine the video vacuuming up 42ft of wheat.

    Whilst the newer JD artics may get the job done quicker, I'm more partial to the early 70s style 7520 and the successor 30 Series models introduced in 1975 - they just look 'right', whereas the one in the video appears 'unbalanced' due to that long nose and squarer bonnet.
    Purely a subjective view of course.
    Perhaps the longer 'nose' pushed the centre of gravity further forward and as a result, there was more wieght over the front drive axle, with less need to hang any extra 'suitcase' wieghts off the front of the machine.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 місяців тому

      When the 60 series was announced in the fall of 1988 I remember think what did they do??? I grew up with the 20, 30, 40 and 50 series then the 60s were such an odd change. They did not look like the other John Deere 2wds and they never did. I think of the made the 60 and 70 series look like the 8000 2wds released in late 1994 they would have had a bolder look. The 8960 is a Sound Gard II. Over the past 30 years the look has grown on me. I really like them now.
