I'm glad that they're sticking to "basics" at first. One of the things I see in the community is that they're hoping that games like Paralives or Life By You will have everything that TS4 has, but more of the things that they feel are missing from TS4 and working better than TS4. Even in the comments in your last video, it was apparent that people have no clue about how complicated these games are. And how difficult it is to satisfy fans (and yet keep the game working.) Paralives' employees especially have been quite clear about managing those expectations. But one can see in comments that the fans are grumbling that they're not getting everything that they dream of.
UGGGH yes, cue the unrealistic expectations! Basics are great, especially as they have already built in customization options, also it gives me more faith that they can finish the project
Honestly, I have no issues concerning the Paralives team updating their patreon staff first. They are the investors of this game, pay the developer's salary, and thus deserve priority. (This is coming from a non investor of Paralives, btw) I think the info the rest of the public receives and the timing of it is more than adequate. I'm in no hurry to see everything at once. On another note, that ramen looks so good! Why did you have to show that image to torment me? jk, LOL!
yeah they really kinda have to= you have to offer patreon supporters perks, and even though I understand the frustration from some, I don't see how else they could do it
I hope they continue to connect with the community when the game launches, references to community memes in the game, connection between townies and the public, showing the lives of Paralives townies on the official pages as arts format and among other things, this makes the game rich and makes people fall in love with the characters, the love they put into this game will make players feel loved
definitely, and I think they will. they've been fairly consistent with doing so, and it's not out of their way too to make patreon looks public a month or so later
Well I think we need to see more of the Parafolks in the world, not in a room or just walking around a grassy area, something like them walking around in town with other Parafolks, passed some of the town buildings and stuff like that. I know I am comparing some of what we have seen from Life By You, which of course has a bigger budget and has been worked on longer, but I still think we need to see how the Parafolks look within the world itself, not just as I said, in a room or an empty field! Like they showed us pictures of a wedding party, but it might have been better to have also shown a video of them interacting with each other, like they were in those pictures. And as far as what food, clothes or hairstyles they give us at the start, I think it does make sense to start with basic things, and then add more unusual items later after early release. We don't want them spending all their time focused on more elaborate items, when they haven't finished the more basic items. Then we will have to wait even longer before the game ever comes out.
I would love to see a live mode showcase eventually but I don't mind them taking time to work more on the basics of live mode first either. This year I hope we see more on personalities and genetics personally but I feel this is going to be another solid year for them if not better. I get people wanting to hurry up and see the good stuff or play the game but I do not want another Sims 4 fiasco. I want a good, solid life sim to have fun with.
I feel without saying much, that seeing some on one or more of those aspects to the public is likely this year. A full live mode preview would be awesome, but of course you'd need full systems and mechanics functioning
All I care to see this year with Paralives is live mode in action they spent the last half of 2023 working on live mode functions we need to see more than animations playing.
@@TheDawnofVanlife Yes, that's a puzzle. I understand the few people that were sent the game, could only play it a short time then it stopped working? That is strange.
I think it'll depend on what you're looking for in a simulation game! I'll be honest, all I have learned about inzoi so far has turned me off, but of course I'll stay tuned to see what comes up
I really don't mind that the game prioritizes foods and styles familiar to Western people. They are a Canadian game company after all and increasing the scope to represent the life of all cultures would be difficult and not really possible for a small company in a narrow timeframe. It's better they do what they find they can do best and other companies can better represent different lifestyles. It's like how Inzoi is going to have heavy urban Korean elements in their life simulation, or how Coral Island is heavily influenced by Southeast Asian culture even in gameplay, or how the base game Sims 4 is built on suburban middle-class United States while Sims Urbz represented an urban United States.
yeah, the initial world will based on their studio location- and this is likely wise, you have to have some type of foundation either way, and you don't want to take on too much right away. ofcourse I'd love to see more in the future! but this already is a massive undertaking creating this game
On live mode videos - Longer videos would be great, and help build trust with those who are suspicious of the development timeline, but I suspect it would be counter productive to do one until all the core systems are all working and integrated together. Not so much progression systems like ageing or death, but... Far enough that the devs can play a full day without it feeling like it's 'missing' anything.
yeah... they could continue to do clips. but to have a full preview, all core systems pretty much need to be entirely functional and they're well not there yet
Happy New Year to you too! How are you doing, and did you do anything the celebrate the new year? I fell asleep at 10pm and slept through the fireworks :D beyond that, I've been prepping for the semester, reading and writing

You sure have many irons in the fire, as we say here in Norway: Keeping up with all these games in such detail, making and editing videos which is a lot of work in itself, and being an author besides. I hope you got some rest over the holidays! 2024 looks like it might be even more exciting, with all the new life sim games approaching release, so I can only wish you good luck in the new year!
ha thank you I appreciate that! I'll have a higher teaching load this semester too BUT good news is I no longer do freelance writing- which was just way too much. Minus myfamily all getting sick, I did enjoy the holidays. I've also gotten out to a conservatory , art museum etc and i felt I really needed that I hope you have a great year coming up!
I don't think The Sims had restrictions on what time recipes could be made when The Sims 2 added different meals although The Sims 3 only allowed desserts to be served and vegetarian recipes could only be made by Vegetarian Sims until PC/Mac changed it when all Sims could make them. The Sims, The Sims Bustin' Out, and The Urbz: Sims in the City did have the option on the fridge use different names (Have or Serve) depending on the time although it was still the same food. This would be an example of "be careful what you wish for". If food thefts did happen, players would find it annoying if it happened a lot. I know people may bring up RPGs because these games often have status effects that are _meant_ to be annoying like poison (typically lower HP per turn or gradual HP drain), Paralyze/Sleep (character can't move), and Silence/Mute (blocks spells from being used), but you usually have a party of 3-4. If the developer was sadistic and opted to have multi-target Paralyze/Sleep or especially instant death for pretty much an instant game over, it would be annoying.
did not know about sims bustin out as I never played so appreciate learning about that YEAH I just don't find the food theft thing to be something that would probably add much anyway? prob cause more trouble
the clothes in the game are all unisex and can be put on any para body since they all have the same base (i'm 99.9% sure of this)! i'm really excited to see what happens this year for paralives too :)
I hope the best for the Paralives team, my only concern (not a criticism of the team at all) is that the game will face a lot of competition at time of release as it taking a while to develop it. And they might have Life By you, InZoi and project Renee to compete with and I wonder if they'll be left behind
in a way yes. I did explore this topic before, but sparknotes version is: I truly think every game is going for something different. paralives is offline gameplay, indie graphics, a chill vibe, low end devices. I also think- look at other gaming genres- it's usual to have many game options in the same sub genre
i think paralives may come later which will give time for the hype for the other games to die down, and time for paralives to get its own release hype. if they all come out at the same time i do think one could get sort of lost but i reckon it’ll be 3-4+ yrs maybe more before the release
while I really respect and admire how much transparency they have had during the development and how much they have shown off about what they are currently doing, I feel like I am finally starting to get the dev standpoint of not showing off things until their project is nearer to completion and they have a lot to show. no offense to paralives, but they have been feeding us info for how long now? years? not saying I don't trust them to actually finish and release the game, but its getting to the point where they show off something new and I'm like "oh that's cool" and then I click off the article and go look at something else. the hype around all of these sneak peeks has really worn off for me and Im almost at the point where I wish they would just hold off until they are closer to release and have more meaty stuff to show as opposed to one small feature at a time.
so it's an interesting discussion. the problem is their funding requires them to show progress, and I feel like if they didn't show anything at all, it would garner more critique for them

Yes a live mode showcase is due, that would soothe people who are constantly harping on them for not being an "actual" game. Really looking forward to what is to come for Paralives.
what sort of thing would you like to see from a live mode showcase
@@SimmerErin more like a "day in a life of a Para"
makes sense!@@westanimesims
@@SimmerErin Well they actually *did* it, and they may have exceeded my expectations
😂My wife and I always order different meals when go out to restaurants. We share each others food all of the time. Simmer Erin, you sound more like a "JOEY DOESN'T SHARE FOOD" type of person 😂😂😂
sharing is fine ha! I just wouldn't like someone swiping without asking :D
@@SimmerErin 😆 🤣 I don't think she ever asked, but then again that's what happens in a happy marriage 😄 😉 🤣😂
I don't think it is right to demand for specific things, basics are the most important and plus the sims games also launch with basic things in base game throughout the years
some people can get carried away for sure, I do sometimes see people simply giving general ideas and that can be okay
