I'm 53 and have not seen my natural color since I was a teen. I am fed up with dying or bleaching my hair and am claiming my inner crone. I'm WAY more white than I thought and looking for ways to more gently grow it out without a major line of demarcation. Thank you for this video.

Great video! I just used the pastel Silver Overtone last night to soften my grow out line. I am 3 months dye free and this really cooled down the dyed hair and the line between is softer.
I didn't put it on my gray... just on the brown I am growing out. LOVE it.

Maybe a cool brown/grey it will cover any brunette shades but not necessarily Pastel because brown is far from Pastel but if the dyed hair has a similar grey tone as the roots it WILL look better. If you plan on seeing a stylist do not do overtone it won't lift out

My hair has grown out now after just 4 months without dyeing. I kept going a shade lighter in blonde until i reached a very similer colour to my roots. Now after 4 months, I'm snow white, beautiful pale silver

Boy, your fearless dear. ! Since I went grey at 58, I too have been playing the “what is my hair color today?” Game. My hair goes whiter at the roots then goes to grey at the ends. So right now I’m just coloring my roots a platinum blonde. Then I keep it a grey tint with my purple shampoo 1x a week. Works well. So I now will do the same with my extensions.

I made the decision to go natural last week after a talk with my stylist, I wear my hair short so don't have much of my light blond color left. Been coloring my hair for a long time, but with everything shut down due to the virus I think there is no better time to switch. 10 days until my appointment and I can hardly wait after nearly 3 months without a cut and salon care.

Thank you for doing this video. I saw the Overtone conditioner for the first time on my Facebook feed just yesterday. I decided back in May that I was not going to fight my grey any longer, but embrace it. Most of my hair is that weird yellow, white and salt + pepper combination right now. After watching your video, I think I will give this stuff a try.

I bought the VPFashion ponytail extension in the lightest color available and used purple shampoo (which was by Fanola - no yellow) it turned the most beautiful shade of light silver and matched my lightest part of my now natural grey/silver hair. Ive been in transition for 8 months and still have the bleached ends of about 2 inches before Im all natural. The very front of my natural hair is almost a white silver, which darkens as you go back and down on my head. Very happy.

good thing you mentioned about the heat tools. One of the other youtubers I watch had transitioned her hair to grey and she was using a purple shampoo and conditioner on her hair. she got a new flat iron and it was too hot and her hair turned a burgandy color. she couldn't fix it so she dyed her whole head brown. Anyway I think the wig turned out great

I have used a flat iron many times while I kept my hair colored...now that I have silver hair, I haven't straightened my hair since I stopped dyeing my hair...a few months back I thought I'd try it...to see what my silver curls would look like smoothed out.
I used heat protectant...a good quality flat iron...and low heat...OMG😲 it literally scorched my hair and left a dingy yellowish cast.
The smoothness looked great...color was horrid! 😮

I saw that UA-cam and it wasn’t just from the overtly high temp on her flat iron, she used peroxide, baking sode as well as a multitude of steps that lead her to a chemical cocktail or residual metals in her hair that the overtly hot hot iron brought to a head (pun intended) and the heat was a catalyst to give her that wacky heat reaction. Don’t blame the hot iron. Blame the alleged hairstylist who wouldn’t go get color corrected yet she put some of the worst chemical combos on her head, ones that NO alleged stylist would EVER do, under the guise of “I don’t want to color correct it because they’ll use bleach”. Maybe in 1972. So....facts people. Facts.

Tovah saw it. I’m pretty sure she just wanted to go back to dying which I really don’t care, but viewers are not dumb, she should have just been honest about it. After the first pass of the flat iron she should have stopped, yet she kept going for effect. Whatever. Part of going grey is being honest about our natural selves. She doesn’t do it for me so I unsubscribed. No biggie.

Great job on coloring the wig. My natural color is light brown and I became a “Silver Sister” almost three years ago. I used a purple shampoo from Sally’s Beauty. I noticed my hair gets the yellow tint when using a flat iron or curling iron. I always use heat protection products. The wig would look gorgeous styled with loose beach waves. I am so happy for you and always love your videos. Many blessings to you!

Beautybylisa actually used overtone on her natural grey and then used a flat iron and it turned her hair pink and she couldn’t get it out, eventually she had to colour her hair dark after 15 months of going grey so just be careful I’d hate to see that happen to anyone else! It could have been the flat iron but it was new, the colour had some purple/different under tones in it so who knows, Love ya 💟 (edit I didn’t finish the video when I commented, I just saw you mentioned it sorry, glad you are aware though!Xo)

    • @amandab116
      @amandab116 5 років тому

That was NOT from the oVertone... as this product is just a conditioner, and will fade out in the next wash or two... I don't understand how someone gets pink hair from silver conditioner... but I don't know this person.

    • @edennis8578
      @edennis8578 5 років тому +3

@@amandab116 I don't know what brand of product that woman was using, but a lot of commercial products that deposit color will say right on the label that they'll dye your sink, bathtub, and countertops, so you have to wipe it off right away. I've used Frieda's Blonder shampoo, which deposits yellow, and the label makes it clear that it has dye in it that stains bathroom surfaces. I can't help but think that a product that will dye your bathtub can also dye your hair if it's a porous texture. Her flat iron just sealed the color into the cuticle of her hair.

    • @LisaIsabelle

Thank you Amber, I was just about to ask if this is the product Lisa used on her now ex-grey hair that turned pink. I believe her badluck is a combination of the Overtone product mixed with a flat iron that was too hot, and it literally cooked the Overtone color into her hair. I'm still so upset for her! Overtone is probably good if you stay away from heating irons and curlers.

Hi Monique, I think you did a fantastic job on colouring the wig. Just a thought, if you are able to colour it again I'd just do the pastel colour only and leave it for another 20 mins. Because you started with the darkest colour first the underneath layer had a lot longer processing time than the top layer. I don't know what effect dyeing again will have on the wig as don't know if the dye is permanent, perhaps the wig makers could advise.

I use oVertone Extreme Red Treatment on my already red colored hair to intensify the color between applications. The difference between the three types (pastel, vibrant, extreme) is the amount of pigment in the product. Extreme has the most pigment and pastel has the least, that would explain the difference in "purple" casting you're seeing at the bottom vs. the top :)

    Hello Monique
Your hair is GORGEOUS! I keep dying my hair Dark Brown to cover my Gray. The Salon I go to says that I am about 60% gray in the front with hardly any in the back. I have to go at least every 4 weeks to cover my Stripes. I
I notice that your hair seems to have some darks at the hair line. Do you dye your hair at all? I have been wanting to dye my hair the color of yours for so long. But as I can not afford plastic surgery, and my face is “ lowering”, I don’t want to look OLD. You do not have ANY signs of aging at all. What do you suggest I try?

Good work! It's hard to tell from the video but I think you're correct, it does have more of a hold hue. Your hair is more silvery, brighter? I'm wondering how does one go about changing or modifying the color in the wig? Is it possible? Have fun with it!

My grey hair is much lighter than Monique's, almost pure white. However it turned into a yucky dingy yellow-brown after a keratin hair treatment as it used a very high temperature straightening iron. No amount of purple shampoo could turned it back to its former icy silver-white color !!!
Luckily my friend taught me this method and I was able to get my hair back to its' original color :
    1. Washed it with a clarifying shampoo ( Neutrogena ). Dried it.
    2. Mixed white conditioner ( Shiseido ) with a 10Vol Creme Developer ( Shiseido ) . Applied it on dry hair for 30 mins. Rinsed and dried it.
    3. Applied BLUE shampoo( not purple shampoo ) such as Fanola No Orange shampoo. Leave it for a few hours. Rinsed it.
    4. Repeat it again next week.

Overtone only deposits color , it does not lighten ... if you go to their website they have examples of what each color does on various colors of hair ( lighter/white /platinum up to brown ) and they have various colors ,fantasy and natural colors , it is basically a conditioner . for me the only draw back is the price . I havent yet tried the gray line but now i know what color to get a trial size of . Thank you for another great video !

I wonder if a tiny bit of Overtone purple would take the yellow cast out of the top section? I use Overtone and enjoy it a lot. And you’d look amazing with a bit of hot pink peeking out of your hair. You can also get snap in one inch sections in pink just to play with it. 💕

Very interesting. I have bleached long blonde hair and decided to go gray. It’s been almost a year and I have a bout 6 inches of growth. My salon said there isn’t a product that would transition me to gray. Now i see this product. Does it work on bleach blonde hair? Well you said the wig was bleached blonde so I guess so. I have never colored my own hair. Is the process pretty simple? It appears to be. Sort of scared. I do use a blow dryer a few days a week. Is that ok?

I really like the idea of this product! I want to keep all the variations of tones I currently have in my salt and pepper hair, but play with color. I actually did an aubergine shadow root with a smoky lilac over the rest. I actually want a smoky lilac over my natural silver and this may work better than the Ion color to do the shadow root effect.
Look forward to seeing this wig on you!

Does this do anything on grey hair because she is using it on dyed blonde hair which takes different than natural grey.

Hi Monique, I used overtone pale silver on my light blonde hair and it turned beautiful lighy silver but after couple washes my yellow hair comes out and Overtone washes out. For awhile I was really happy.

Your natural hair is far more vibrant & beautiful than the wig color... I’ve had some issues with yellowing in my grey/platinum locks, but I don’t want my hair to be any darker. I’ll guess I’ll let nature take its natural course. Enjoyed your video.

Yout hair is gorgeous. Natural gray is the prettiest and I don't think there is anyway to get it exact. I am 50/50 right now. 50 silver and 50 very dark brown. I just do light auburn. Hopefully in the next few years I can just go silver.

It came out really nice! I’ve got some beautiful really good quality golden blonde (might have to bleach first, think they’re a medium golden blonde) extensions from many years back when I was still dying my hair. I had the very same idea of trying to dye them, some in some wild colours (I’m really itching for colour, but can’t decide extensions would be the perfect answer - could use some volume as well), the rest silver. The pastel silver looks like it might be best for trying to match my hair, as like you mine is very silvery/ white. I did have a look on their website - no white, just various shades of silver you used. If you do this please show! Fab video, thanks for introducing me to a new silver hair product! Jet🧡🎸🎶⚡️🦇🦋

Yet again Monique is looking Amazzzzzing!!! I have alway since I started dying my hair & working in salons been lightest ash blonde but Im going 4 the silver steel. Schwartz colours. Ive bought 2 & ive bleached my roots but im woried & think I shoulda bought silver or blue shampoo. Mixed it up in a bowl & added it as u would do a colour, leave it in 4 15-20mins 2 cancel out any unwated yellow or orange tones. Infact. Ive got my lunch break soon so im off 2 buy some shampoo. Ill know 2night how it all goes. 🤞
