- ◼️ I will show you this failed hotel project, which represents an era of tourism that has completely expired, and I will explain to you where NATURE TOURISM is going.
◼️ Located in the heart of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, in Almería, just 50 meters from the Mediterranean Sea is an immense mass of stone that one day dreamed of being a hotel. El Algarrobico, 95 percent built and paralyzed 14 years ago, -in 2005-, had planned to accommodate hundreds of tourists in its 411 rooms in a huge 21-storey building, however, the court paralyzed its construction because it was built on a protected space that invaded the protection easement of the maritime-terrestrial public domain. I wanted to visit it because for me it represents a completely outdated model of tourism and one that we must not allow to be repeated, especially in natural settings with environmental richness.

◼️ You may wonder WHAT IS ECOTOURISM AND WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF? Ecological tourism, ecotourism or nature tourism is an approach to tourism activities in which observation of the natural environment is offered. It is an alternative style of tourism, or ecologist, different from traditional or mass tourism. Although there are different interpretations, nature tourism is generally promoted as "ethical" tourism, in which the well-being of local populations is also presumed to be paramount, and this assumption is reflected in the design of activities, with criteria of sustainability and preservation.
