I've been diving on Sipadan 4 times. This movie was filmed several years before 1989, as my first trip out there was circa 1984 by which time a boat jetty had been built off the "house reef". The diving on Sipadan was spectacular, easily the best I've ever seen. I knew Jacques Cousteau had been out there, but this is the first time I've seen the movie....didn't even knew a movie existed until today.
i visited Sipadan in late 80's. My visit purely for a break/rest as im not a diver yet. Sipadan was newly opened an the resort is a simple hut made of a Nipah palm leaf and a bamboo floor/walls. Fell in love once doing snorkelling and register for a dive lesson immediately after returning to Kuala Lumpur. Had a chance spotting Coconut crap breaking a coconut shell for food.
