  • Chesil Beach is a venue that 1000’s flock to from all corners of the country to fish every year. But, many anglers are against even bothering in the winter months. I’ve set my sites on Abbotsbury to see is it really worth spending the time, effort and money to fish in the winter months?

It’s been tough going recently, but like you say the ocean is massive and you never know what is going to turn up. You’ve gotta be in it to win it. You won’t know if you’re gonna have a good day catching or not if you just sit at home, better to get the rods out and know you’ve tried, even if it is a blank or for a pout, still better than not giving it a go at all.

I caught a beautiful smooth hound around 8lb in January and a pout last weekend.. Well happy with the smoothy, gagging to get my first ever cod this year!

Well that's proof of winter fishing paying off if ever needed! That's a fantastic winter smoothy! Hoping you find that cod soon.

Winter fishing can be hard going on the mind, body and soul as you have proved but you have shown determination, grit and that makes you a better angler. Superb video and you have shown it how it really is and you have to be in it to win it. All the best and tight lines

Thanks for those words, lovely to hear that feedback 👍 You’re so right about being in it to win it, if I don’t catch a fish I often catch a lesson instead, which can be just as valuable. Appreciate you watching 🙏

Well done for moving, you saved the Blank 👊🏼 I am going to Abbotsbury on a family holiday in a few weeks, still unsure if I am going to take rods.

Cheers 👍 1 little fish can really change a session! You’ll be kicking yourself if a rod and tackle box doesn’t sneakily make it into the boot when you visit 👀

Chesil is a waste of time unless your local and can head down there when the fish are in, 5% of anglers catch most of the fish, can't go wrong with the Bristol channel

@@jamiesmart9016 I’d recommend anyone fish Chesil, it’s one of few marks with accessible deep water and a very diverse marine life close in. Those who aren’t local however would be best to plan around the better tides and conditions

Chesil is over 13 miles long and it's not all good. Local experts know exactly where and when to catch the fish. You certainly wont find local experts fishing in front of car parks, long walks produce much better results.
