I didn't have access to the original Fleetway comics, so I never noticed the discrepancies. American, you know? This deep dive really shows how fun and awesome this version of the blue blur was. Thanks for sharing your passion.

I never noticed all these pages were coloured in with copic marker pens, just looks so... odd by today's standards, like it's a fan made comic or something.

I kind of miss the texture it gave the pages. Digital colours feel a little too clean and sterile by comparison.

Your channel has been my only real exposure to Sonic the Comic. It's always interesting to see how it compares/contrasts with the Archie comics I grew up with.

I keep meaning to properly read Archie. I picked it up around issue 150, long after the UK comic had been cancelled, when I found a comic shop that imported all if their books.

I enjoyed this, particularly with how much detail you covered about the page layout stuff. It's a perspective I don't commonly find with this kind of thing and would like to see more of.

Cheers mate. I was worried it would be too much detail or getting into the weeds and turn people off, but the reception has been really positive so far.

As a Canadian, Sonic the Comic has been something I've been aware of for most of my Sonic obsessed life, but I have never obviously seen a issue in person. Richard Elson isn't MY FAVORITE Sonic artist by any means, but his style is definitely the most satisfying of any of the non-japanese art I have seen especially in the era. (I am a big fan of Patrick Spaziante as I grew up with the much more hit and miss Archie series) That being said, I WOULD LOVE to own at least a single issue in my lifetime, but figuring out which one has been a hassle, AND shipping is nuts. It will probably be part of the CD adaption, since, I am such a nut for that game. Still, great video, it's always nice to hear a Brit's opinion on the Fleetway series. Stay tuned when I give myself a lobotomy after trying to do my own video talking about the early issues of the Archie comic.

Weirdly, the past few years have seen issues go from 50p each to £30 each online.

I'd definitely like to. Next one being how they adapted Sonic CD.

Oh, as for Richard Elson, I did write to him a number of times as a kid as I really wanted to get into comics too. Never once recieved a reply, even though he replied to others and they even thanked him in the comic.
So, that really did put me off him, to the point I stopped buying the comic.

I'm sorry to hear that. All I can say is that I've met him a few times now. He's always been really friendly, down to earth, and welcoming with a very chilled out, happy, aura. All of my personal experiences of him have been glowingingly positive.

The writers and artists work from home so they only get letters that are forwarded to them from the office. The office on British comics is usually a one, or two, person operation and sometimes they just don't have the time to do that. It's very unlikely that he would have singled you out to ignore if he was repliying to others; far more likely that he just never saw your letters. When you're a kid, you probably can't help but take that kind of thing personally though, I guess. :)

@@Mort7an Yeah, I sort of took it personally as a kid, it did put me off going into comics on the largest part. But I can see in hindsight now.
