Shadow is a magic type and it's Magus' element. Robo was told he can't use magic, and technically he can't, but he has some techs that are similar to magic as they use electricity, but he's a robot, so I guess that's their logic for that.
You actually had almost perfect rng for the spekkio fight there, he used ice on marle and fire on lucca, both of which are slightly resistant to those elements. I've done spekkio without using any healing items before. He doesn't give exp or tech points, so you can keep attacking when someone dies and win, you spent about half the fight healing the damage as fast as he dealt it to you, in other words a stalemate. As far as Robo's magic, he gets 3 attacks that are considered magic, and they are 3 different elements so he is versatile. Laser spin = Shadow, Area Bomb = Fire, Shock = Lightning. He doesn't have to meet spekkio to gain those abilities though. There are only 4 characters in the game that have to see Spekkio to learn magic. You can see 3 of them here.
Its impossible for you to meet Spekkio as a djinn, I'm assuming you mean his Masamune form, the first time unless you literally leveled to 40 before leaving the future and going to the end of time. He is a frog level 1 to 9, this form 10 to 19, a goblin/ogan 20 to 29, a omnicrone/gaoler 30 to 39, a blue Masamune the djinn at 40 to 98, and a pink Nu at level 99 which is the hardest boss fight in the game.
1:44 I thought you said that because you were going to get magic on marle and lucca before swapping robo back in. But now after watching more of your videos I see what you really meant: You left powerglove on lucca for the majority of the game, so you don't know what makes a character good in this game and just do your own thing.

Wait... I thought that Shadow wasn't a magic type and Spekkio told Robo that he couldn't use magic.
