    Wow- this case really started off with “the call is coming from inside the house” vibes and then just turned into a hot mess. It’s a shame that the family drama aspect of this case has almost taken away from the horrible fact that a child was murdered. Also, side note, your French pronunciation is top tier. Looking forward to the new series, I already know it’ll be great! Much love, as always.

    Ugh this case. There’s a French documentary on Netflix about it. It took me weeks to get through because it is just so damn disturbing and upsetting. The footage of the funeral and the tiny kid sized coffin still haunts me with Christine barely able to stand and howling with grief and collapsing at the funeral (all in the documentary). I am still amazed the parents managed to stay together and went on to have a few more kids. Also they were so, so, so young when it happened. I’ve done a deep dive on this on my own in the last few years and it was definitely someone in the family, not Jean-Marie’s workplace.
    And as sad as it is with the original judge taking his life, he had no business being on the case in the first place due to his inexperience. He courted the media, loved the attention, and focused on Christine as a suspect and that was it. Too proud to admit he effed up and that he wasn’t culpable which is why I don’t have much sympathy for him. I absolutely despised him in the documentary.

      Hola, Amelie! Thanks so much for watching and leaving this detailed comment. I actually haven't watched the Netflix documentary but certainly feel like I should - however I also don't doubt what you say about it being disturbing and upsetting! Just imagining what you've described about footage of Christine's reaction at the funeral is just tragic. The age of the parents at the time of this is certainly heartbreaking as well - I'm glad they were able to have more children though.
      Thank you again for your comment, you've really compelled me into wanting to watch this documentary ASAP! There seems to be a lot of stuff that I didn't cover here (i.e. the judge's role in all this). Thank you!

    1. How were the callers' voices disguised? To this day, isn't there technology to compare the disguised voices to known suspects? Why couldn't the calls have been traced?
    2. Why has the justice system in France been so lenient on the multiple suspects (excluding Christine) arrested? No polygraphs or brain scans?
    3. How are the Villemins, today? I know Jean-Marie regretted killing Bernard LaRoche, but is he still convinced of his guilt?
    4. Michel and Bernard were close friends. Michel neglected to mention the part of Gregory being in the Vologne while everyone frantically searched behind the house, the hills, etc. It wasn't until Jean-Marie confronted Michel about exact details said in the call that Michel mentioned the Vologne. Michel could have been the inside member of the family tipping off Bernard all along. It could have been Jacky, too, as he was mistreated by the family as the eldest half-brother.
    5. It could be the Villemins supported the case being reopened because it wasn't just one "crow," but multiple. Bernard was likely the actual killer, with Marcel and Jacqueline part of the conspiracy making calls and writing letters. On at least one recorded call, they were able to count 13 stair steps which is identical to the Jacobs house. The inside person is still officially undetermined but likely, as mentioned above, either Jacky or Michel, who both had their reasons for aligning with LaRoche against Jean-Marie.
    6. Don't forget Murielle Bolle. Her and Bernard's versions of the timeline conflicted. One or both weren't telling the truth. A nurse claimed she instructed Bolle how to administer insulin for her mother. Why wasn't the needle and insulin found on the riverbank ever tested for prints or DNA?

    The handwriting thing against the mom seems flimsy to me since the same experts were saying the handwriting is similar to Bernard's before so...it looks to me like they were saying it's similar to whoever was on the radar at given time. Bernard got let go and died, so they changed their tune to Christine. Or the two people had similar handwriting. Which is why this thing is a problem...if two different people really have handwriting so similar then it's not a conclusive evidence and cannot be shown in court. The rope thing...eh...it wasn't the same rope it was "similar" which means it could be of the same maker, but that means different people can own it. Also they never had any clear motive as to WHY Christine would kill her son and send those letters.

      @Aria.Inthavong  2 роки тому

      Hey Nina! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. That's a good point about the handwriting experts, although perhaps they had different experts analyzing them at different times? The lack of a clear motive for Christine killing her own son is also a good point, and probably partially why she was eventually acquitted. Appreciate your comment and hearing from you! Thanks!
