When it comes to handling a tarantula, the word that pops into my mind is gently. Right? Although they're these hideous creatures that everybody's afraid of, they are extremely fragile. Their exoskeleton is thin in certain areas, particularly in the abdomen. The legs, in particular, again, they're not pliable at all and the least little bit of pressure could actually break them.
So gentle is the word. People sometimes say, 'Jungle Bob, you're so rough with your animals.' But when I'm picking up a tarantula like the Palomino Blond I know is not going to bite me, I simply cup the animal and put my hands underneath his legs. And this way he's cradled. I'm not smashing down on him. That would be a fatal event for the tarantula.
So that's how you could easily pick up a tarantula like this. Even though his fangs are right against my fingers, I know he's not an aggressive species and have to worry about that. Certainly, if he's walking along, the best way to pick him up is to coax him. By putting your hand in front of him, give him a little nudge on his abdomen and he will just gently walk where you want him to go. That's more maneuvering than it is handling him for sure.
And lastly, if a tarantula's got a good enough size it's fairly simple to, again, this is his abdomen and this is the head thorax, between the middle legs, like right between the two sides of his legs, you can gently grab his head thorax area and pick him up. That's not harming him any. You're in between legs two and three, if you will, on one side and two and three on the other side. And pick him up by grasping the body. That's the sturdiest part of the tarantula and that doesn't bother him at all.
Now again, handling tarantulas. They're a species that like to flick their hairs off that I don't like to pick up at all. Because even though you can pick them up gently enough they're going to be kicking the legs on their abdomen. You're going to have a mess on your face. Tarantula hair all over the place. Why bother? I coax them along. I push them along. I usually don't pick them up in that method. Nor do I want to cup them because their hairs come off of there. Agonizingly irritating.
So know your species, again. But if you want to pick him up, those are the methods to do so without harming the animal, which the most important thing. And without getting bitten, which is a pretty good idea too. - Навчання та стиль
Howcast, if you're going to upload professional instructional videos, you should take feedback given by genuine hobbyists. The squeeze technique practiced by this not-so-gentleman is strongly discouraged within the spider community, and the rough tapping of the opithsoma is completely unnecessary. This video is encouraging new tarantula keepers into potentially injuring their pets.
Frankus Lee Yea Jungle Bob is a hack
The spider community????
This is a perfect video for anyone wondering what NOT to do if you own a tarantula.
Fr lol
That is one seriously mellow T. The way you handle her makes her look like the spider equivalent of a Ragdoll cat.
The tarantula in this video is in premolt and you should not handle a tarantula when it is due for a molt.
***** how did you guys know that it is in premolt?
Mon Christian Gaoat
The large bald spot on the back of the tarantula's abdomen is a dead giveaway that this spider is in premolt.
Mon Christian Gaoat
for some reason before it molts it rubs the hairs of of it's backpart.
***** That is not necessarily true. You can tell a T is in pre molt by two main signs:
1. Darkening spot on abdomen
2. refusal of food
Geeez Teeez
yes you are correct :)
i just read that somewhere that they also do rub the hairs off sometimes when they are in pre molt.
These videos are spreading false information. Please do some actual research and visit one of the several tarantula forums for information instead of using these videos as a reference. You need information from real hobbyists.
+Geeez Teeez Yes they dont know anything about T's
Geeez Teeez This needs to be top comment
Geeez Teeez no it's just you scared of spiders.
You are so right. This guy seems like some clown cowboy, trying to be cool but he knows nothing about T's.
Hobbyists or scientists? 🤔
When a tarantula feels a mouse scurrying around FOOD, bug FOOD. But when handling by a human they're really docile. What do tarantulas see people as? Do they see us as another animal?
+Jayo Caine I'd like to know this as well.
Maybe they don't consider big animals like us as food, there's no way he could fight animals that is much bigger than itself. Is like a self protection in nature.
Animals sometimes insect predators like a tarantula has a heatsensing or something that enables them to hunt and staying away from predators, they see insect or other small animal as a red small dot like radars if they sense somethings big they mostly hide or staying calm if they are used to, and why the tarantula does not attack because his safe he knows its safe so instead of attacking he remains calm if you are gentle enough, well you are good. And why this P. Blonde or dessert blonde is not flicking hairs or is about to attack, because they are not agressive species.
right at 2:10 the tarantula just started to flick its hairs lol
how can u tell
Dem Apples if you look 👀 close at then end You will see
Lmao his face
someone please explain in further detail why that spider didn't bite him
is it just not able to? or are they super good friends?
DID HE SAVE THE SPIDER'S LIFE IN 'NAM?!
DOES IT OWE HIM A LIFE DEBT?!?!?!?
just trying to do some research
it's shirtless affraid
Some spiders bite you as soon as you look at them funny. Others are a lot more docile.
The desert/palomino blonde is just a super friendly, docile tarantula. My desert blonde has only flicked hairs at me once, probably because she was a little woozy from her car trip home, but otherwise has been very sweet and loves to be on me. Other tarantula species are more aggressive, depending on the type, but don't forget that they have personalities too! Tarantulas have their own unique traits and may react differently depending on such.
Ian Cohen so funny.thr way u wrote that cracks me up
He bought it a beer at the bar an hour before bringing it home
thatone started to flick of it's hairs at the end of the video ..

It’s good to see people are so brave. Else I’m so nervous and timid in dealing spiders. I don’t know why I just can’t take the spiders easily. Everything associated with them makes me restless. Is it a psychological problem I’m facing since my childhood? P.S. I haven’t generally encountered a lot of spiders in my life. Inspite of that I get spidy dreams.
If you are a beginner tarantula keeper then dont watch these howcast videos. These videos have bad advice and their methods can potentially harm your pet. In my opinion you shouldn’t handle tarantulas in the first place. You can handle them once or twice a month but otherwise they might become more aggressive. My advice is to watch videos by people who have experience in keeping tarantulas for a while, like Exotics Lair, The Dark Den, Tarantula Kat and there are many more people but that are my favourites. Overall just leave tarantulas alone. They are amazing animals but they are more like display pets.
Even the most terrifying creatures don't judge
Dude, you really shouldn't pick the Tarantula up from above like that. It will think a bird or something is trying to grab it.
I'm thinking about getting one
handling tarantulas is not advisable..dont encourage beginners to do this..
Im new to it and handle my tarantula at least once a week but i coax her onto my hand
Imma try this on my OBT
I don’t recommend handling a tarantula, maybe once or twice a month, if you do it too often it can get aggressive.
Tarantulas do not get anything. They do not remeber and they do not learn. They are not very evolved whatsoever. They may not respond the same way every time but how they respond is not based off of learning.
That spider looks like it’s about to molt and this clown is literally swinging it around like a sparkler
Yes so sad 😞 I extreme rarely hand hold him mines my logo and he’s is very stressed look at the abdimin if mine was walking once or 2 a month I let mine walk on my hand
Showing beginners the way youre handling your calm one moving it fast is gonna get people bit by theres
My tarantula not to keen on comeing out of his tank but doesn't want to go back when I've had him out.
Thanks for sharing 👏
Jungle bob is absolutely outstanding. This guy so obviously loves the animals he works with.
HiDeguild He's a hack
he's a moron and has no idea what he is doing.
a a is this a joke
The. Spider is like put me down or I'll bite you
It’s actually docile
Imagine if at 0:40 he accidentally had the spider in his right hand
Can you do the same thing on smaller spiders? Because i have a grass wolf spider and i...i don't want to be bitten...
what's a good indicator that one might be about to kick hair at you, and what distance can they throw it out? do they have a stance for it like how they have one just before an attack with fangs, or is it just too quick to see coming? Do Chillian Roses often kick hairs? I have heard they are one of the docile types.
Robert Sides it's a little late of a response but: they have no stance and will kick without warning. They can kick hairs fairly far, so be careful. Rose hairs are generally referred to as docile but I'll tell you first hand they're very bipolar. One momemt they will be absolutely calm and the next they will be very standoffish. Keep in mind that all tarantulas are "known" for some certain behavior, but that doesn't mean every tarantula will behave that way. Honduran curly hairs are known as docile, more carefree types for beginners, but mine kicked hairs and bit at anything I tried to move around in its tank.
I love tarantulas as pets very good conversation starters
Yes it is
what if he gets bit during the video
that one is going to molt ?
Hello, i got a pair of questions: do all the T's react like that one when picked up? What chance there is that they will mistake your hands (and fingers) for a prey when cupping them and tag you? I've noticed that everything touching their very front legs and their palps triggers usually a threat response... +Chaoticme i repost this question to you too :)
Like people, individual T`s have different personalities. Even in species that are known to be docile, some individuals are aggressive. Just get to know your spider. And with your other question, tarantulas can tell the difference between your hand and their next meal. If you do decide to hold it just be gentle with it. If you feel like you are worried there is a real possibility it would bite you then it's probably best to not handle that T.
❤
You shouldn’t do that anytime especially in pre molt
I got a Guatemalan redrump tarantula I handle him pretty well. Does anyone know they behavior on them? I know little to late to be asking haha
one time my spider suffocated a cricket in between his leg and the main part of his body. it was actually latched on him so i took a pair of chopsticks and pulled the cricket off him it took me about 10 minuets because i was at a weird angle and Menchie (my tarantula) kept moving around the tararium XD
He was eating 🍽 leave them spider 🕷 alone
What about pholgius crassipes
What tartantula is that
You dont handle your Ts. There is no reason to. You leave them alone.
jjennsan And the award for most boring tarantula keeper goes to....
If I want an animal to pet. I will by a hamster. The Ts dont enjoy being handeld. And there is risks if they fall. So yes Im boring then. What do I win?
If u handel your Ts, good for u. I chose not to becous I dont think their is any reason to. I Belive it is to stressful for them. I love my Ts like they r my own babies. If that makes me boring then Jeeej for me.
jjennsan It's a good thing that you can handle them, it makes them more comfortable with their owner. Unless they clearly show signs of: "don't" you should handle them from time to time.
chris hough They can see other creatures, and know if their sae or not around them etc.
Sae?? and yes but tarantulas have bad eyesight thats why the got the hairs on their legs and pedipalps so they can feel around im just saying that a tarantula will not know its owner from another person
how many money one sling tarantulas
Is it possible to handle a 2 year old Chaco Golden Knee (Grammostola pulchripes) even if he has not been handled ever?
Yea they are new worlds but test its temperament first because all T's have different personalities.
Says it's not aggressive when you wrapped your hand around its body and hen its fangs are up against your skin is crazy. HOW IS IT NOT BITING?
I just bought a rose hair tarantula as my first tarantula ever. Do they tend to rub hairs onto you or bite? Are they a pretty relaxed species?
Rose hairs are extremely docile. But just like people every single one has its own personality. I've never been bitten or have seen my rose hair kick hair. Good choice with a rose hair for your first T. Cheap, readily available at pet shops, and very docile. If you want to get into the hobby I suggest a Honduran Curly Hair next. Also a very docile species and relatively cheap. After that a Pink Toe is also a good choice.
They have a reputation for being docile, but not all are. In fact, many keepers report having "psycho rosies" that are quite unpredictable and sometimes aggressive. As a New World species, they will kick urticating hairs (irritating hairs on their abdomens that are meant to cause discomfort), however, they are also capable of biting. Although their venom is not particularly potent, the punctures from 3/8" fangs could sure hurt. B. albopilosum (Honduran Curly Hair) has a better rep for being a gentle, predictable T.
I've got myself a Acanthoscurria geniculata and she is really aggressive so how do I handle it? I mean I don't want to pet her but at the moment she is just about 6cm bodylenght in a 25x20cm terra and I will have to rehouse her at some point. She kicks very fast even before threatening, I have no idea how to move her around if necessary. until now I just own her and 3 tiny slings. My mantis and scorpions are easy to handle but they don't "shoot" or bolt around the terrarium.
chris tobal I personally wouldn't. In the case of rehousing, I would simply set it's enclosure in a large tub, with the new enclosure in it as well. Then you can coax the T out of its current tank and up the outside wall, into the new one. It's what I had to do with my very fast, very mean heteroscodra maculata. Hope you got it figured out
Captive pls
This is absolutely NOT how to handle a tarantula. There is no need to be that rough with the animal. Please, if you are looking to handle your tarantulas, consult with some "real" hobbyists for tips and cautions and do NOT try to emulate this cowboy.
Oh piss off
Is it the same for a Zebra Costa Rican tarantula
Jhon d their fangs fold down

I hate spiders, but that Tarantula is adorable.
I have a Rose Hair. I pick her up from her cage using the inner side of a small, round stone cave, cause I´m too terrified to pick her up with my hands. But if I try to get her to walk into my hand, she avoids it and backs off into the cave. I´m afraid she´s gonna bite or something if I push her more to walk into my hand. Is that possible? She´s never been aggressive, and I´ve held her twice before, but it´s been a while. What to do?
Can a tarantula get used to be handled if done frequently?
If I were you holding that tarantula I would have passed out
iv just brought my first chilean rose hair tarantula they are very relaxed spiders they would rather flick hairs at you then bite but that doesnt say they wont bite. mine is still a Juvenal but never shown any aggression at all only when she does nopt wanna be held she will try to walk away from you, so thats how i know when she cba with me.
Rose Hair tarantulas are unpredicatable. Yes, most of the time they are docile but they at times they can be very aggressive.
Why ?
Does jungle Bob even go one how cast anymore?
No
Is it true that they won't bite unless provoked?
turbokid991 generally. A tarantula will bite if it believes what it is biting is trying to harm it, or it is prey. Sometimes it mistakes you for a predator and attacks as a defense, or mistakes your finger or something as prey (though that rarely happens.) When a tarantula is stressed they're more likely to bite, so the important thing is to test their temperament before attempting to touch them or do anything inside their cage with your hand
Nice
I just want to ask can I handle this spider or not trinidad olive tarantula I know that until last but some of the species is little bit difficult if somebody can help me and answer my question appreciated I don't know about the spider appreciate if somebody can help me
what species is that
mister guanzorumu 0:31 Palomino Blonde. Even though he says, "like the Palomino Blonde", he's referring to that particular tarantula.
I will nerver grap my cobalt blue in any off these ways :D lol. No, any off my T's i will not pick up like this video shows :)
I dont think I would ever try to handle a old world T period. Lol
Not afraid
Love your video just brought one made me feel so much better about what were getting into too
First of all only new worlds flick hairs and notice how he says”know your species”
New world: slow, hairy and more friendly.. they cant bite but they can flick hair.
Old world: agressive, less hair cannot flick hair but they can bite.
still watch 2019 I have dream about this Tarantula to Christmas. but I can´t buy it cause I am in greenland
You could always have one shipped. Unless it's illegal then forget what I just said. Don't call the cops. I'm a good boy
trinidad olive tarantula how can I handle this spider
To handle the tarantula tap it’s abdomen gently and put your hand in front of it
wait so its all right to pick up a tarantula if you know what the hell your doing? im so confused
Yes and no.
How do i get of my fear of them?
Jarno Datema I know many people that got over their fears by actually buying a tarantula(a more docile one like a curly hair or rose hair) and took care of it. I personally never had a fear so after I bought mine, i would let my friends see them or even handle them. That, plus the knowledge that their venom wasn't deadly unless you're allergic, and they didn't want to bite humans anyways, helped them get over their fear after a while.
Dakota Stils Actually, i own one for a couple of years now, but i am still afraid to pick him/her up
Jarno Datema i wouldn't. I don't handle mine just because they get nothing from it except danger and the potential injury to either me or the T. Granted, mine are slings, and I have a heteroscodra maculata, a very fast old world aggressive species so I'm not handling them anyways. Just remember, if you do handle them, be very careful, test their temperament first, and coax onto your hand, never forcefully pick them up
Can someone tell me what is the name of this cute T :) Iam slowly getting in to the ts and i need to know some species that are handable and calm ;)
+Mikuláš “Krampus” Sivek he's handling a blondi
Is the palomino blonde also called the desert blonde tarantula?
(In case you haven't had a reply yet) As far as I know, yes. I've never personally heard them called 'palomino' blondes before, but I don't think the desert blonde has a doppelganger. I was a little confused when he said palomino because my first thought was 'Hey! That looks just like my tarantula Tequila!'
aphonopelma chalcodes ,palomino blonde and Desert Blonde are all the same
How did it not bite you?
Depends on behavior, at the end of the video the tarantula did flick her fhairs
I want a t but my mom won't let me have one any tips??
It depends. What species of T do you want?
I wanted a rose hair but I wrote my mom a 3 page essay and she let me get it checkout my video if it it's called our new pets
He said it's a peaceful species.
I find the Best way to Handle a Tarantula, is not to fucking pick up the Tarantula
I HATE THESE BUT HAVE TO DO A PROJECT
She is so cute!!!!! I want one but cannot handle insects, I must be doomed :(
Cats&Potions First off Arachnids, not insects. Second handling a T is never necessary. Many people advise against holding Ts
How to get poison in your hands
I'm an arachnophobe but actually find this species quite cute (from a distance).
Don't handle tarantulas. They don't enjoy it, they gain nothing from it. If you want to have a cool pet that you can handle get a lizard or snake. Also junglebob, you should tell the viewers that only new world tarantulas are gentle. Old world tarantulas are far more aggressive, flighty, venomous and they're faster. Old world tarantulas are absolutely not for handling
If anybody is going to get a tarantula, please consult some expert hobbyists on arachnoboards.com first, they almost always say don't handle a tarantula and you mustn't trust pet store (especially petco and petsmart) information
You should pay the Tarantula a talent fee.
How do you make it not bite?
Learn what it does how it reacts to things...be very gentle. Let it trust you...

What are you talking about tons of pet shops sell "Tarantulas" ( not just any spiders) so obviously somebody has to be buying them. By the way exotic pets are great I have a Bearded Dragon and I'm sure no one says "that's weird no one has lizards as pets".
My dad is so kind! If I write a essay on anything for him he will get me that thing. I once wrote a essay on the titanic, he litterly went and got a under water pic of it and guess what he survived!

How to get bitten by a tarantulq
Yeah The tarantula has a bald spot on his abdomen
I'm really interested in getting a Tarantula. I already have everything set up, but I can't decide on which species. I'm a total beginner and would like to handle the tarantula often/sometimes. Any suggestions?
A. Chalcodes is a great beginner T with potential for handling, but I highly, HIGHLY, recommend not handling any species of tarantula. They're good pets to look at, but not touch.
I would recommend you a Brachypelma species.
Don’t handle it the way this person is that’s for sure
The Tarantula Collective channel is my favorite place to connect and find these questions.
Is it ok to not hold my blond?
what if my tarantula is 17 inches long and 4 inches fat? no joke
There's no freakin 17 inches tarantula. Maximum would be 12 or 13 inch And thats the biggest T in the world. Its called goliath birdeater.
Alien
The only requirements for me is that it's needs to be able to live in a 10 gallon tank and doesn't/rarely bites for throws hair at you basically that most likely WONT attack people because if it does it's gonna be a serious pain to have someone watch the house (I travel a lot)
Do not handle a T like this lmao
So now I know what I have to do if I find a giant spider which has fled from its owner...before watching that video I would surely have touched it totally wrongly!
I've been afraid of spiders for as long as I can remember, and being bitten by a Brown Recluse at age six did not help. I am almost seventeen now and my fear of spiders has diminished quite a lot. So much so that I am looking to possibly get a pet Tarantula (Rose Hair, maybe) while I am in college and have a stable home. Your videos have taught me so much within only a matter of minutes! I am definitely sold on getting a fascinating pet in my future years, thank you.
Jackson Emick I wouldn't recommend a rose hair or taking Jungle Bob's advice if you're getting into Ts. There's a few youtubers out there like Jon3800 who gives better advice than Jungle Bob. For a beginner I would personally recommend a brachypelma albopilosum in terms of cost and being incredibly docile.
Jackson Emick I agree with scarlet-electro. Don't take advice from Jungle Bob, and don't purchase Ts from online dealers that are centered around reptiles (the exception being NERD), because they generally only care about the money and don't know and don't care to know about the T they send you. That being said, Tom Moran is who I would go to, although Jon3800 is a fine person to refer to as well. Tom has a brilliant video titled, The Best Beginner Tarantulas. Any one in that video would make a good beginner T. Hope this helps :)
Aren't you always suppose to test their temperament first? Even new worlds can be assholes.
There not assoles they don’t wanna be handle
@@enriquesexotics9095 shut up. I call them what I want to call them.

Know nothing about tarantulas. .but this dude went so fast speaking fast and holding the T very quick and stress like. Seems like he would have gotten bit.
