    What about when you need to cut an imperial butt ton?? I’m not good with conversations…

    • @StuartdeHaro
      @StuartdeHaro  Рік тому +4

      Oh that's easy. A metric butt ton is equal to 2200 butt pounds, which in retrospect could have been phrased better.

    Great tip Stuart. I remember the days before retirement when every day was a “play tricks on co-workers” day. Lol Gilles

    Cool tip, I will be sure to try it some time, as I do have a roll of kitchen wrap which will hopefully act similar to shrink wrap. cheers and thanks.

      It probably will, but the pallet shrink wrap is a lot thicker than the kitchen stuff

    Great idea! Now when I measure once and cut twice, I can ruin more stock faster! 🤣
    On a serious note, like previously commented I wouldn’t have thought that would hold, so thank you for showing it does! I’ll try to remember this for my next metric butt ton I need to cut up.

    Thanks for the great content. I’d love you to give some tips on cutting oils, lubricants, etc.. I can’t figure out what/when to use and would love a video just giving some basic guidelines and what you’d suggest. Thanks again. Love your channel

    Interesting, I wouldn't have thought it would hold it tight enough. It doesn't need much movement of the stock to bjork your blade, either a brave person who first tried that... or it wasn't their saw :).

    • @StuartdeHaro
      @StuartdeHaro  Рік тому +2

      It really works quite well. That was 1/2" diameter 304 Stainless, all 250 of them! I think I still have slivers in my hands from all that.

  • @handdancin
    @handdancin Рік тому +1

    related, and what i thought you were going to say in this video: put the stock in so the blade sees the thinnest part of the stock, chips clear faster and so the cut will go faster

    • @StuartdeHaro
      @StuartdeHaro  Рік тому +2

      Actually I do the opposite. My goal is to always have at least three blade teeth in the stock whenever possible. Otherwise you can start ripping teeth off the blade. That’s not always possible, for instance on thin walled tubing or structural steel, but on something like rectangular bar I always cut the wide side. I'm less likely to have a crooked cut that way too. I guess if the stock is thick enough then it wouldn't matter one way or the other.

      Never! Just kidding though he's a good dude. He and I just pranked each other every chance we got. One time I put an air horn under his chair figuring he would jump up as soon as it went off. Nope. He just sat there until it ran out of air. That made it so much funnier.

    Maybe this is a stupid question, I don't disagree the gang sawing is a great trick. But I think of it as being so to avoid set up time. Is there any actual physics behind it being more efficient? Like I could see how a bundle of round bar would have the air gaps leaving a place for chips to go and thus being more efficient than the same size diameter solid stock. But putting aside the human time of putting one part after the next, is there a theory based reason why this trick is effective?

    • @StuartdeHaro
      @StuartdeHaro  Рік тому +2

      It's just a time saver. I would have had to make 250 cuts instead of 25. I also would have been babysitting the saw the entire time. Instead, while the next cut is going, I can debur the previous 10 parts on the belt sander next to the saw.

    Did you say wether to wrap clockwise or counter clockwise or did I just miss that bit ? Will it make any difference if you'll ultimately be turning a left hand or right hand thread ? Can you use sandwich wrap and if you do will peanut butter improve or hurt ones surface finish ? Mayonnaise? Anchovy paste? Enquiring minds need to know.

    • @StuartdeHaro
      @StuartdeHaro  Рік тому +1

      I'm not sure about the other stuff, but I know mayonnaise ruins everything so I avoid it.

      I looked over at someone deburring their parts tonight and noticed they had steel for the lathe parts instead of the Aluminum stated on the print. It was also the wrong diameter. 5 or 6 people just went with it and cut all their pieces from the same material.
