Man sorry your scope didn’t work out . The 3 I have tested All worked fine and are still ticking . I do say on my 2 discovery videos to buy from a US dealer EDGUNWEST. He stands behind his customers. .I spend a lot of time and my own money making as honest a scope review as i possibly can . My reviews are based on value for cost . . It’s cool your video is honest based on your experience and I respect that . Hopefully it will work out for you . I buy all my scopes from US vendors for the very reason you stated . All the best the One eyed guy with the Dog. PS gave you a thumbs up for being real ...Too Damn little real videos on UA-cam !!!
I appreciate your honesty Joe. I really did want that scope to be the end all, especially with the 1000$+ pricing of other scopes with those features. I do agree they are all made in china. Unfortunately their quality control Sucks. There was even a sticker on the bottom that said QC passed LOL. Maybe in the future more companies will do business with them and have a bigger market here in the US because pop up locking turrets are the shit and my BSO 1-4 turrets work awesome. IMHO they still have some bugs to work out as far as the reticle being too thin, turret wobble, rust on the scope rings, and despite the initial FUBAR they did respond to every email. But the fact they had me send it back to a chinese parlor in Lampasas says that APEX HORIZON would not be the ideal go to vendor.
I have 3 of those scopes now, 2 have been great and the 3rd is still untested. That said when you buy from china dont expect a warranty. Your rolling that dice.
@@gunnilingus2596 my discovery scopes have stood up to the recoil of magnum spring guns which are known to tear the toughest scopes apart. Sorry you had a lemon man. Subscribing to your channel now that's kickass name you picked mate.
Them man.... dude I wanted to buy this scope really bad ... but I just do not know what to do now... if the seller can not backed it up in the USA, then we are fuc.... Who can sell it in the USA and back up the scope.. ??
I bought a Discovery VT3 compact 3x12x44 FFP scope. It is brilliant, far far better than my Hawke Panorama and must be one of the best scopes for the money out there. But I had a choice : buy from China via alibaba for £170 or buy over the Internet from a reputable UK importer for £220. I chose the latter, as I wanted to avoid exactly the situation Gunilingus has found himself in. A warranty and back up is worth the money, as I found with my first Brocock Compatto. Had to send it back 4 times until finally swoping it for the regulated model, all under warranty. So if you want to buy direct over the Internet then the main thing is choose a reputable dealer in your country. Just because a scope is made in China does not make it a bad scope or brand. Mine is fantastic. And by the way, keep up the good work Joe.
I have the same scope, got it for £149 delivered (pre launch offer) through their Official Ali Express page. Great little scope and handled a twangy bouncy old springer for a while before gun got serviced.
My friend your problem seems to be with the shipping cost and not the scope or the Discovery brand itself. Im pretty certain Discovery has little or nothing to do with the cost associated with shipping the product overseas and back to the manufacture.. Also Amazon likely plays a role in this in one way or another. I can understand your frustration however your placing blame in the wrong direction. Lets just say i have a number of scopes from various manufactures Hawk, Vortex, Aztec and a few high end Nightforce scopes, so i do have some knowledge on this topic. The discovery scope may not be comparable to Nightforce but the overall quality is more then adequate for the average hunter or target shooter. for the price i really dont think there is a brand out there that is that much better .
If it arrives defective, you can call your credit card company and they will force the seller to pay for shipping or refund you full amount. No need to pay for shipping on doa products. It is not a warranty issue if defective right out of the box.
Made the same mistake , bought a scope from China. CRAP !!!! Inside of lens looked like it had over spray. They didn't even give me a place to send it back. I feel your pain brother. Lesson learned. I like your video!👍👍👍
Funny thing is I purchased this exact same model from Discovery Optics plus. I was originally wanting a different model and the gentlemen mentioned to me that he had a higher model than the one I wanted for slightly higher cost. I have the exact same issue. I took the chance because he reassured me he backs the product 100%. We shall see... It took me a while to figure out what the hell was wrong cause I could not group no matter what I did. Until I finally noticed that no matter the paralax adjustment I could not get my target and reticle to be on the same plain. The margin of error was much more significant at higher mag and definitely could tell paralax was way off and no matter what you couldn't get it on point. Groupings was embarrassing to say the least at 60 yards. I sent him photos from my camera showing that the cross hairs were completely off center like your scope. Maybe he sold me the same returned scope thinking I would not notice or this problem is common with this brand of scope. He says to ship it back to him and they will determine if it's a factory defect. Like seriously... I couldn't for the life of me wonder why they would even say such a thing given that they do some major "rigorous" testing. I literally had the scope used maybe 5 times and 2-3 hours and spent major ammunition wondering how the hell could I not group well. But I had no issues grouping with another rifle and a different scope. Then I took that rifle and swapped out scopes and problem followed the scope... We shall see how Charlie Sexton from airgunopticsplus.com/collections/all responds when I send him the scope back. I'll give him and the company a chance before posting a full review on youtube regarding experience with company and scope quality. Time will tell....
This is the main reason I try to avoid Chinese made scopes as much as possible if I can help it and buy Chinese made scopes from Athlon and Burris who actually honor their warranty. Vortex has first rate warranty also. You really need the warranty when buying Chinese manufactured goods even sold through well trusted American brands simply due to varying quality control including Arkens for example when it comes to varying quality control. Lifetime warranty = You're gonna need it.
Sorry to hear about your scope. I got a similar problem too, with their DISCOVERY HD 4-24x50 SFIR FFP. The tourettes are NOT REZEROABLE as they ADVERTISE IT !!! After I put the scope on a rifle and sigted it in, I unscrewed the tourette cap and tried to allign ''0'' MIL with the DOT mark on the housing ... BUT ... IT WON'T ALLIGN !!! I studied why and here it comes : The cap got 60 tenths of a MIL/clicks BUT TOURETTE axis only got 24 possible POSITIONS/GROOVES ! So your DOT MARK on the housing, after the sighting, will likely END UP somewhere in between 2 successive tenths ( fractions of it ) of a MIL engraved on a tourette cap and will not allign !!! If you are ''lucky'' the ''0'' and DOT will allign, BUT you only got 20% odds, that it will. Since the CAP can only be pushed down to ( 60 / 24 = 2,5 ) every second and a half tenth of a MIL, this is giving you those 20% odds. AND that's not all the SHIT that's going on. Say factory state will come with the elevation tourette in the ''middle'' and ''0'' will be alligned with ''DOT''. Now if you remove the cap and push it down to successive/next groove ( say to the left ) on the axis, it will FALL DOWN to 2,5 tenth of a MIL and the ''DOT'' will end up in the middle of 2 and 3 tenths of a MIL, AND nowhere between ''0'' and ''2,5'' tenths of a MIL ... AND SO ON. For tactical competition the ''REZERO'' is a MUST, so I claimed return&refund from the seller BUT they PLAIN REJECTED ME AS MY ''DISPUTE'' time had passed. ( since I've been waiting for a rifle and didn't test it before ). After BIG EFFORTS, Aliexpress itself, refunded me some of the money, but I WANT NEVER to hear again about the DISCOVERY SCOPES, especially aboout the OPTICS PLANET STORE !!!!! AND their branch on ALIBABA, ''Zhangjiajie Discovery Optical Instrument Co., Ltd.'', from where they pointed me to purchase at their Aliexpress store ''OPTICS PLANET STORE''. AND Attention : All or at least some models from the lines listed below, are likely to have the same tourette (NO)ZERO RESET system, so caution is adviced before buying ! : HD , VT-1 ..2..3..Z..R..T , and ED 4-16x50 SF images : docs.google.com/document/d/1txa_HvVpiimUfAwtk4ujz8NU0JdUsn-dWTvBuduIjZs/edit?usp=sharing docs.google.com/document/d/1NyOoY38s_c0y3cYIM0gOUDf_XLc-paHvnAE9ZlY7oDQ/edit?usp=sharing
12 days shipping! I buy cheap AR parts like hand guards, mounts from China and it always take about a month. I just got the ED 4-16x50 yesterday, a little under a month shipping. I buy from eBay. This is the first time I bought a scope at this price range from China. It shipped the same as yours, nothing but bubble wrap around it. It looks really good out of the box, can’t wait to shoot it. I usually check the websites also to make sure the description matches what the seller has and to check price range. Most sellers have theirs a little under the MSRP price, if it is too low, something is wrong and they might send you a different or defective product. Discovery UK has a better website to look at the features. Communism China is not too web friendly, so maybe that is why their site sucks. That sucks you didn’t get what you paid for, hope it works out.
First, if you receive a defective product from a private seller on Amazon, you can call Amazon and report the product as DOA, and Amazon will force the seller to pay for return shipping. You do not have to pay to ship to China for defective products on Amazon. I have done this several times and speak from experience. Second, there is another US seller of Discovery scopes with good customer service: airgunopticsplus.com and their prices are excellent. I have 2 of their scopes, an HS, which I love, and a VT-2 which is serious bang for your buck. Both perform great. The VT-2 4.5-18 has a tight eye box, only complaint I have with it. The HS is kickass, FFP, 30mm, and under 20 oz.
I was going to buy the Discovery HD FFP 4-24x50mm with the 34mm tube from EDgunWest, based on Joe's review. They were sold out there. Discovery's website has recently changed to Discovery-Sport. When looking at these and similar Discovery scopes on Amazon and Ebay, I've noticed that the specifications are not consistent pertaining to same exact model (eye relief especially). When I've messaged Amazon and Ebay sellers told them that their specs don't match Discovery's official website, I've just been told that it's old information and they'll correct it. When communicating directly with people at Discovery - I've been quoted approximately $70 for shipping (Alibaba). Sorry for your ordeal. I ended up getting a 2nd Focal Plane scope that I suspect is a 're-branded' 30mm Discovery HD (Aim Sports Alpha 6; 4.5-27x50 from Optics Planet). It has the same reticle, tube style, turrets and 'slack'/'slippage' in the turrets you described - but other than that, it's been a good scope. I also suspect that the Sightmark Citadels are produced with many of the same parts (tube, turrets and reticles) as the Discovery HD optic. Try contacting Laura@Discovery-Sports.com directly and see if you can come to a better resolution than dealing with an Ebay or Amazon seller. The 34mm FFP 4-24x50 still peaks my interest. I'll make sure to stay away from ApexHorizon on Amazon.
I would agree that the citadel is almost identical in appearance to another scope Discovery offers. I'm willing to bet that all these Chinese Scopes are manufactured in the same factories, same tools and workers. The quality control is what you pay extra for from what I've heard.
Nope because the Monstrum Tactical and WestHunters are the absolute worse unreliable poor quality control Chinese scopes you can possibly buy now as well as other unknown Chinese brands selling their crappy rubbish piece of turd scopes on Amazon and eBay. I'd buy any one of the Vortex or Athlon or Burris Chinese scopes if I needed it to be accurate and reliable on a 300 mag rifle. They have hassle free no questions lifetime warranties. All these cheap generic Chinese rubbish scopes are better suited for 22 rimfire and toy airsoft or BB guns and not worth gambling on heavy recoil centerfire rifles larger than a .223.
The turret adjustment knobs aren't fixed to the plungers. That is why there is a little movement in the knob. Perfectly normal. As for the lens, have you properly adjusted the windage? Mine have been perfect so far.
I sure as hell understand your frustration. Buying anything over the Internet is a pain in the ass and you're never one hundred percent guaranteed. One thing I can guarantee.... Is that Joe is not getting a kickbacks from this company. He really does give honest straightforward reviews. I am wanting a scope for my 300 ultra magnum. I'm going with a Leupold Mark 4 long distance. And yes I realize the scope cost twice the money the rifle did. But for me it's well worth the wait. And I'm going to use Midway USA..... Or one of the local gun shops here where I live. My best advice is.... Never use the internet unless you have to. But if you do there are some very good companies here within the United States that will back you. If you have a problem.
I purchased a Discovery 3X15X50 tac turrets mounted it on a 204 cal and very impressed with quality and accuracy of this scope compared to much much more expensive well known scopes ..and have shot about 100 rounds and it still holds zero try to use and test some thing before you bag it..yes it a bit of time for postage to Australia but thats postage ....I will be purchasing another one for my 243 cal . I sorry it didnt work out for you
I bought my discovery HD 5-25 after watching cyclops videos, its been used alot between my rti priest pcp and ruger 10/22 rifle. never had a problem with it.
Have seen other footage of someone showing 4 different broken Discovery scopes. Think this and your footage have helped make my mind up and have decided not to buy a Discovery scope. Thanks for the info.
$15 to send a scope from the US to the UK, $250 to send a scope from US to China, UPS/US postal service is scamming. I am sorry for you Fella, I got burned with a scope damaged in the post, hurt my pocket hard, I am just able (six months later) to replace it with something new, hopping for better luck this time, with EDgun west.
Got one on the way. I wouldn’t be happy. If mine is the same mine come from China. I only realised after buying. I bought on 27th January they’ve gave me delivery date 27th May. So your lucky you said you’ve not tried it on a rifle why haven’t you zoomed in then adjusted it to centre Can’t beet a good rant. Enjoyed your vid.
Primary arms has a life time warranty now because everyone was going vortex. But yea you are right about primary arms. Every rifle I own will eventually have a pa optic with the acss I’ve got 4 now but still wanting a couple others
I’m glad I came across this though because I just watch Cyclopes video first but yea I’ll be sticking with the primary arms 4-14x ffp acss hud for my next scope
You summed it up already. If your on a budget and need a good, solid optic with excellent features, a solid warranty and superb customer service, look no further than Primary Arms. PERIOD! Not only do they have excellent quality optics but the incredible ACSS reticle family is absolutely THE best in the world AND most of PAs optics now have lifetime warranties and their customer service is second to none! I own 2 PA Chinese produced optics, the amazing standard $379when i bought it 3 yrs ago. $389 now)silver class SFP 1-8x ACSS and the incredible $269 silver class FFP 4-14x ACSS R-grid. I also own the absolutely superb Japanese made platinum class FFP 1-8x ACSS scope. I LOVE all 3! Fantastic, high quality and very durable optics! Ive beaten on my two silver class scopes for 3 yrs and over 15,000 rds between them with ZERO problems other than the 8 scope caps and 5 aftermarket polymer throw levers off of the SFP 1-8x! PA replaced 6 scope caps so far free of charge! Their customer service is awesome! Ive found my go-to optics company and ill always look to PA first. BTW PA now has a budget level 'classic' series model lineup, the standard 'silver class', the brand new made in the Philippines 'gold' series and the top of the line, equal to anything out there at twice the price 'platinum' lineup. If you need optics, PA has you covered!
I absolutely agree. Since this video I've put the holosun PA red dot, the PA cyclops on my 5.56's, the .22lrACSS on my tacsol upper, and the 3-18 silver on my rem700. You can't find a better company with more innovation at the price point to put your trust in. Even if they are Chinese made, they stand behind their products and test them well.
Gunnilingus - yeah i wondered about all those "other" scopes like Discovery Optic etc that cyclops is always going on about. Its one thing to "test" an optic with a couple range sessions and a "tracking test" that i stil dont understand the point in, and entirely another to actually expect real performance from it and use it like you mean it. Not that the "titty twister" isnt valid, uh ummm. Anyway, PA is all you need to know regardless of how those sub $100 scopes perform. Im just waiting for the 3-18x ACSS R-grid 2B to release. Itll be the long range complement to my PA platinum 1-8x ACSS FFP CQB to med/long range optic aboard my DD5V1. I cant wait! Hey thanks for the info btw!
Damn brother!! I feel for you. YOU got screwed!!! Sorry to hear that. Cyclops Joe left a link on the bottom of his video. It's from a dealer here in the US that really back those Scopes up. Would have been a lot cheaper for shipping and everything else. I swear that's probably the damn scope to use for all the damn testing. Cyclops Joe is a straight shooter when it comes down to scope reviews and I do really trust his videos but I will never own a Discovery. Do a lot of long range shooting. Have two handfuls of scopes but ran into a great deal and got a great scope at Cabela's called the covenant. It's a tactical scope has the Christmas tree reticle. Great for long distance reasonably priced and lifetime warranty no questions asked. Just thought I'd throw that out there for you brother. Good luck and once again sorry to hear about your Misfortune bro nothing wrong with venting!! From New Mexico happy shooting brother!!! ✌🇺🇸
@@CyclopsJoeVideos How come edguns west doesn't sell them anymore what happened had to many people complain they where junk or what Joe just asking....
Well i would say the problem is rather shipping cost then anything else. And also the very few times I've had any problem with anything from china (never any scope though) I've just contacted the seller and solved it. Mostly they send another item. Thanks for s great and honest video.
I ONLY buy stuff that "Ships and sells" from Amazon and by doing so you can return it to Amazon for free. But I don't buy stuff like this from Amazon, anything expensive comes from a store I can physically go to and return shit. Not that $200 is expensive but still, I bought a vortex strike eagle and returned that shit the next day at sportsmans warehouse, it was a piece of shit for $499. I got a nikon x1000 black 6-25x50 for $549 from Midway and its pretty fucking good for that price for my M1A .308.
Sorry to hear of your problems. I have always worried a bit about Chinese quality control. They can produce good products but I prefer to buy from company with good reputation even if product originates there like Athlon. I live in Turkey where choice locally is very limited so many people do personal import. I just got Athlon Argos BTR FFP from Holland. One problem you have is that US shipping costs are exorbitant. UPS from Holland was about $30 and that had enough spare weight to add a few tins of pellets (also not available here) + a couple of small tools for no extra cost. Many years ago I used to order quite a bit of gun stuff from the States but now often shipping costs exceed that of item I am looking at.
I purchased 4 of the Discovery optics from US dealer Charles Sexton from Discovery optics plus and he his great to work with and he stand behind the product 100%.
As a matter of fact, if you really want a great scope my Sig Sauer Whiskey3 in 3-9×50mm is fucknn awesome, everything works like it should the glass is great the turrets are tool free pop up's and the warranty is fantastic. That's my hunting scope and it's never failed in any thing not to mention it only cost me $132 dealer cost, just make sure you get the 1 with the retical that you want.
THANK YOU brother I was about to go down the same road your video snapped me back to reality. Ill save my money and get something more reputable. I should of learned my lesson when I bought the M14/M1A made in china clone with the barrel not indexed right. Would of cost over twice what the gun was worth to have a smith fix it. Its true we get what we pay for
John here glad you put thus out I almost got one watched 1 eye Joe same video I.ll stay with Redfield leupold and vortex call it done.Redfield I.ve had for 30 yrs just now went bad having it redone for 100.00. But you nite check BLACK HOUND SCOPES
I would recomend a cabelas covenant 5 5-25x56 ffp when I came to the states last year october from Zimbabwe I came back put it on my 338-378 wheatherby which im sure you know are a pimped up 338 and it works a dream
Im with you man. I bought the 10x44 hd. This is suppose to be the more expensive version. Mine doesnt hold zero on my tx200 air rifle. Also put it on the S400 pcp. After zeroing it and shooting it in a competition I started missing my targets( small killzones in hft). After the shoot checked the zero and there im shooting to the left again. The chinese just dont seem to know how to get scopes springs strong enough to hold the reticle in place. All those bs recoil tests they do is useless it should be tested on a rifle. I do a proper test ill show them how its done. Anyway im done with discovery fuckem. For the price it was not the cheapest scope so I expected more.
For some applications Chinese metal is OK. IMHO they may have the machining and assembly processes down but don't have or don't give a fuck to properly heat treat metal or they are purposely using recycled/low grade metal in paramilitary gear. They basically leave the specs up to sellers and when you have mom and pop sellers or unscrupulous Chinese implant sellers it's a recipe for disaster.
Well said i bought a Trijicon srs powered clone from China who promised super performance and could handle recoil of a real fire arm and if needed a local return in the USA well low and behold the 5th magazine and the front lens popped out I asked for warranty and i was told to send to China ,i asked about their claimed local warranty, and they didnt have a local vendor so i sent back to China 80.00 and the sight was 53.00$
Hi i like this video a lot, real rant no politics. I have a very similar issue, mine is ok on the reticle on zooming in and out, my issue is even i bubble level the scope by putting a buble level on top of the elevation turret then the reticle cants to the left, the reticle is not aligned, so bad. I have 4 discovery ffps, 3 were ok but 1 is mis aligned. Maybe their qc is very poor
sorry for your grief ! I just ordered my THIRD discovery scope. My first came from EdGun West and the last two came from Airgun Optics Plus( EdGun had no stock ). The last two are for rimfire guns. Discovery Scopes are a fantastic value for the money.! All of mine are FFP scopes and they perform as well as scopes price at twice the cost ! Sorry you got a bad one, Buy from a USA dealer next time ?
This video and another one taught me to only order Discovery/Chinese scopes through US or Canadian dealers, there is AirArchery CA and Air Optics plus that carries them and you can return them there instead of all the way back to China for some obscene price. Still, I don't understand how you could possibly be made to pay for the shipping of a out of the box defective scope or something that fails within a year. Amazon should have given you a shipping label at no cost to you or you should have demanded Discovery China do it if they want their defective scope sent back. I would have cancelled the credit card payment/refuted the charge if they are forcing you to pay to send it back being defective out of the box. I also would have told them I would provide pictures and video of the issue if they don't want to pay to have it sent back to prove you are telling the truth, most companies eventually relent if you know how to argue and don't relent. No way should you have paid a dime to send back their defective product right out of the box or within a year of purchase. Get Amazon involved, even now I would demand any money you spent shipping it back be refunded by either Amazon or Discovery. Did they make you check mark some BS statement that the buyer pays shipping back to China no matter what?
Amazon didn't want to deal with it because I didn't buy it from a "prime" retailer. My misunderstanding was that I thought it was coming from Canada and not china. Eventually the seller caved and had me return it to some nail salon in the south. But even then the shop owner didn't accept delivery right away and her broken english made it difficult to communicate. At this point I think non air gun sellers are just trying to smuggle in fentanyl.
@@gunnilingus2596 It shouldn't have mattered whether it was a "prime" retailer or not, you purchased a out of the box defective product through Amazon so they are responsible for paying the shipping to send it back or making the seller pay the shipping to send it back if they need to have it back to give you a refund or send you a working unit like you paid for. When it comes to sellers acting like that don't give a inch, you are in the right. They can be sued for blowing you off like that and taking your money for defective products where it costs so much to send it back, luckily you got it taken care of I hope and did not have to pay to ship your defective product back to China.
Sorry to hear your trouble. Glad you were finally able to get a refund. I sell these scopes as well and am from Canada, but the main thing is to get to know the vendor and look at some reviews and communicate. Sounds like you tried to do that and still got tricked with their claim to be in Canada. That's unfortunate. I just hope your review doesn't make people stop buying from local dealers that stand behind the product. As Joe said, Edgunwest and others like myself stand behind their products.
I have 4 Discovery scopes...no issues, but only one is on a firearm (12 ga slug gun). I only buy from American distributors, however... won’t take the chance. Sorry you got a lemon, man...
And it is almost impossible to 'stay away from these Chinese made products' because even Leupold and other high end scopes are made in China, at least partly, often fully made there, and they cost over $1000 in some cases. But Leupold has free shipping for warranty.
@@comeonsense2022 Wrong. Like I said, many of Leupold scopes are made in China, and even their more expensive lines have some components imported and not made in their Beaverton plant. You can call them and they can set you straight.
Well I was thinking about it but I don't think I'll be buying one now. Bad quality control pisses me off, maybe some people got good ones but if any of them came with a reticle that's not even centered it's just pathetic.
I had a good experience with them and the scope... But I did know ahead of time that it was a cheap ass scope.. I would have never ever ever put it on a 300 or anything sizable. I consider Scopes like this suitable for 22 long rifle or 17 HMR.
I am also here because of Joe. He's a great guy. I also subscribed to your channel. You got a bad scope man. I have these scopes and they are awesome. I did buy mine from a dealer here in the states who stands behind the product 100%. Anyway, these scopes are very good. But like anything else, there will be bad ones that slip through. Love the glass in these things. Anyhow, good luck with it.
Always check the locations of warranty service centers. Request a return shipping label....if not available file for full refund through Amazon. If Amazon backs the seller and the expensive return shipping then screw Amazon. Ebay protects buyers better than this.
Pretty sure Texas precision optics sells the same scopes but rebranded it. They claim to ship right from dallas and supposedly have great customer service.
Thanks for the video. I'm sorry that you've had to experience this. I'm staying away... When it comes to real guns and gun accessories, Cabela's is the place to go. The prices are reasonable and you get to HOLD it IN YOUR HANDS. They don't sell stuff that can't be returned, exchanged, or warrantied. My friend purchased his first gun online ... it came packed nicely... with a rusty / spotty hammer and bolt. Where had that gun been? Was that worth saving $25 off the Cabela's price? Every time he has a misfire or the magazine sticks, he regrets how he purchased his rifle.
Amazon should have backed that shit up. Joe gives honest reviews and tells you "ONLY" to buy from us dealers. He don't feed bullshit. Everything is junk when it's fucked up but when it is working perfectly...IT'S THE SHIT! That's human nature. I hope this shit get's sorted for you man, cause I have been there and it suck's ass BIG TIME. Mine scope ain't perfect but it isn't that bad for the money I spent on it and the seller helped me big time and I paid under 40$ said and done for a 110$ scope for a scratch on it when I got it new. Hope this shit works out for you man. But for real Joe didn't steer you wrong. Buy from USA dealers/distributors and not 3rd party sellers from Amazon. I did and thankfully a lesson was learned and I got lucky that the 3rd party seller was an honest guy cause he could have fucked me easy and that's that.
I tried several Discovery scope models based on the advice of some budget minded friends and prior good reviews. I must have lucked out knock on wood no issues so far with any of them but I promise baby won't be buying any more die to reports of the newer ones having poor quality control like WestHunters and Monstrums.
Looking back on the Chinese scopes I bought, I think the Vortex Athlon, and Burris brands are the best and probably worth the extra money if there's no other comparably priced options from Philippines or Japan. Maybe even buying current scopes from S. Korea would be much better than China if Bushnell actually still honors their lifetime warranty.
Get the Sniper brand based in Texas at least there's recourse domestically via lifetime warranty but you pay for shipping and I wouldn't doubt they may be the same manufacturer as Discovery.
I feel your pain though... I guess I already knew cuz I have bought stuff from China like this before... But yeah they do things a little different there. Guess I got lucky with mine
You get what you pay for. Warranties are good for companies in your location or country for hassle free/less transactions. I still would not buy that scope unless its for a PCP or Co2 airgun. The problem with that scope is that given that its already China made, you also have possible out of factory assembled scopes either from smuggled out or reject parts...it happens and has been practiced for so long with China made products as well as other products made in Asia. 😶
Add WestHunter and Monstrom to other Chinese brands to stay away from due to poor quality control, short life span and terrible customer warranty concerns.
Yeah man the amazon compony are fake, my mate has got one and it works a dream but he got his from South Africa which there are registered dealers and they offer a 5 year warranty and it solid, but sorry to hear about your experience. And also your in the states so its not worth bringing it from South Africa.
This story seems a little off to me. I buy everything from amazon and eBay. If there is s problem, they take care of it. I did have a guy on eBay that listed his night vision and the location was Texas. When I got a tracking number from China I contacted the seller. They said I had to wait and get it. Before he could send me return label. I contacted eBay and they gave me full refund. Never heard from the guy again. I think you just needed to get amazon involved. They have taken care of every issue I have ever had.
When I contacted Amazon they pretty much just acted like a buffer. They might have put a little pressure on the seller who is now covered under prime for some reason but wasn't back then. The post office couldn't even find the address the seller told me to ship it to, a happy ending massage parlour. When I called the girl they told me to ship it to she spoke very bad English and barely knew what I was talking about. Finally the next day she received it and the seller refunded me. Lesson learned buy from name brands with lifetime US backed warranty.
Thank you for the heads up. Can you / could you have disputed your credit card to get a charge back refund? That's what I would have done to avoid getting ripped off. It is also wise to avoid any companies that don't have any warranty. Once it goes south you are SOL especially regarding stuff coming from China since aren't really built to last. Worst brands to buy is WestHunter and Osprey and Monstrom Tactical and many other brands that don't have a hassle free no questions asked lifetime warranty. They are considered disposable without a hassle free lifetime warranty. There are also several companies out there who actually don't honor their lifetime warranties to be aware of too and you won't know until you need to actually use their warranty. Riton and Mueller are two examples but there's more BS companies out there.
Look I'm very sorry to hear about all of this, but I found best to buy from eBay. I was seriously considering this brand scope but I won't be buying one based on your review. Read on why I use eBay. I've been royally effed in the ay a couple of times with this sort of thing but I got some justice recently, and then some, for my efforts. In short I got a big win. I bought a mechanical Tissot watch that cost $1500 for my son's 21st birthday. I get it here and it is genuine no question, however it was NOS and 7yo and the leather band in it was completely unuseable since it had gone brittle and was falling apart. I asked them politely to supply what I had paid for. They played ULTRA hardball and eventually told me I caused it. Before I purchased they were all lovely and cute and as soon as there was a problem no answer. Persistent daily contact eventually resulted in a reply as mentioned, but no joy just denial. I had to get medieval on their asses. I found out as much as I could about them. I had 2 options, make a claim through either eBay or PayPal. I contacted my local consumer advice service first and they advised despite the listing they weren't registered as a business in the country but to use eBay for a claim rather than PayPal. I initiated a claim for the genuine replacement Tissot band (about $175). Well because the egotistical arrogant china POS fraudulent a-holes never responded I get back the ENTIRE PURCHASE PRICE of $1500 even though i only wanted $175. Can you believe that? It took all my powers of self control not to contact the sellers and taunt them. After that they changed their business name and are still trading. It's called phoenixing for obvious reasons.
Mate 90% of what we buy around the world is from China but when you buy through online sites there is no real authenticity that's why you stick to retailers pay a little more for piece of mind. That said I will be getting one soon and doing full review shooting it at the range mounted on a 243 at distances from 25 too 500 yards see how it fairs.
My 2 Vortex Strike Eagle's say MADE IN CHINA on them. You should have bought from a US dealer who will stand behind the product and not the factory in China that made them. You might have saved a few bucks but was it worth it? I have a Discovery scope on my CZ 457 and it is the cats ass.....it is really a nice scope and I like it. Now Lifetime Warranty has many different meanings....The lifetime of the customer? The company? The manufacturer? What is a lifetime warranty worth when in 20 or 30 years the company or who sold it to you is no longer around?
@Gunnilingus Sorry for your bad experience. I think you should dispute the charges on Amazon (easier if you paid with a credit card). That's what I did last time with a bad product came from China. Mean while, Discovery Optics is a US company in NC. airgunopticsplus.com/pages/about-us People in US should know about products coming from China. A lot of these products are made for US companies. The Chinese subcontractor found that there is money to be made; they either made extra ones for themselves or setup factory to make pirated copies, and most of them end up on Amazon. You might be just unlucky and got one of those.
I just seen the phone now and it sucks if your scope don't work I buy all my cheap scopes off Amazon that way if they're fucked up they go right back but but I can't believe that something happened to yours I actually prefer minor some of my high end scopes order one off Amazon same 1 and then send it back get a new 1 I know it sounds terrible but fuckum
Should change the title to "long winded rant". Try adjusting the windage to get the reticle centered? Have to remember the focal plane is in front of the erector assembly.
Was considering buying one of these scopes and after watching this maybe not. I agree that if a seller host a companies product on their site or on the Wal-Mart shelf, then that seller should be liable to back up and enforce the warranty WITHOUT added cost and unreasonable delay to the consumer. I have had several instances where I bought something from Amazon and the item was "warrantied" by China company. Since I am a Prime member, when China sent me a unpaid return label back to China, I knew it would cost me more than the product to ship back to china so I bitched at Amazon for allowing these chinese companies to screw with US and Amazon credited my account with the product cost. In the other instance it was a defective electronics from Wally world and they tried not to refund my money saying that I would have to ship it back to china mfg. I said no you will refund my money, not leaving the store untill you do. You, as the largest retailer in America has an obligation to provide quality products to its custiomers and your have a bigger hammer to use on these chinese companies if their products lacking in quality than individuals like me. Therefiore, yoiu will push back on these companies to provide better qaulity and a no cost iincluding prepaid shipping for warranty coverage.
@@Aviator168 No discovery is an all-Chinese scope brand and they make their own stuff. He got a real one, but every company makes a dud every once in a while. Should have contacted Amazon as they will get this kind of thing sorted out without you having to pay any return shipping.
Well I got one from discovery on Ali express and honestly it's perfect.. You are very unlucky..Amazon was the problem on you're part not discover...honestly the scope I got is perfect..when u want to get it from Ali express make sure you see reviews first..
Man, I'm really sad for what just happened to you, as another guy said on the comments, you can buy them here in the US at airgunopticsplus.com/collections/scopes you must have one bad and this is really sad because now you are stuck with the scope, really sad. Your message is valid, everybody should be aware of what just happened to you. Buy from US if you want buyer protection, buy from China and it just a matter of luck. I'm a subscriber to your channel, keep it true, keep it honest. Cheers!
@@CyclopsJoeVideos You're the man Joe. Keep up the good work and putting out the word.
I have the same. Top little scope
I have the same scope, got it for £149 delivered (pre launch offer) through their Official Ali Express page. Great little scope and handled a twangy bouncy old springer for a while before gun got serviced.
Hi Mate I know its an old post but what gun did you have the scope fitted to?

Hi Mate I know its an old post but what gun did you have the scope fitted to?
So you didn't like it then...
I just wasn't sure.
You need to be clear.
If it arrives defective, you can call your credit card company and they will force the seller to pay for shipping or refund you full amount. No need to pay for shipping on doa products. It is not a warranty issue if defective right out of the box.
Thanks for your time and reviewing this... I was just about to buy one you stopped me thank you.....
I appreciate your honesty and thoroughness sir, I only made this video to keep other people from getting burned.
Did Charlie Sexton make it right? How long did it take? Any hassles?
This is the main reason I try to avoid Chinese made scopes as much as possible if I can help it and buy Chinese made scopes from Athlon and Burris who actually honor their warranty. Vortex has first rate warranty also. You really need the warranty when buying Chinese manufactured goods even sold through well trusted American brands simply due to varying quality control including Arkens for example when it comes to varying quality control. Lifetime warranty = You're gonna need it.
Thank you, I was looking at this scope but now I will be getting the SWFA SS for my new PCP rifle !
I studied why and here it comes :
The cap got 60 tenths of a MIL/clicks BUT TOURETTE axis only got 24 possible POSITIONS/GROOVES !
HD , VT-1 ..2..3..Z..R..T , and ED 4-16x50 SF

Bought the Dis covery . Knocked it over and it won’t hold zero anymore.
Come here because of Joes channel I like helping small channels.Good luck I subbed.
Airgun optics Plus in the US sells them
Have seen other footage of someone showing 4 different broken Discovery scopes.
So your lucky
you said you’ve not tried it on a rifle why haven’t you zoomed in then adjusted it to centre Can’t beet a good rant.
Well i would say the problem is rather shipping cost then anything else.
And also the very few times I've had any problem with anything from china (never any scope though) I've just contacted the seller and solved it. Mostly they send another item.
Thanks for s great and honest video.
Check it and make sure the windage isn’t all the way to the left or right. Just saying sometimes people over look the small stuff when they get mad.
Try mounting it and check to see if your windage is centered
I ONLY buy stuff that "Ships and sells" from Amazon and by doing so you can return it to Amazon for free. But I don't buy stuff like this from Amazon, anything expensive comes from a store I can physically go to and return shit. Not that $200 is expensive but still, I bought a vortex strike eagle and returned that shit the next day at sportsmans warehouse, it was a piece of shit for $499. I got a nikon x1000 black 6-25x50 for $549 from Midway and its pretty fucking good for that price for my M1A .308.
For an m1a I'm thinking I'd go with the primary arms ,3-18 ACSS

Bad Luck I guess, these Scopes are getting great reviews globally
Would you be able to replace one of there scope Sir I mean on a warranty deal?
I am in canada .where can i buy from?
Thank you brother.
The cheap Leupold knockoffs are mede in China. The real genuine Leupolds are made in the USA. This is specifically for their rifle scopes.
Hi, thanks. Any long term reliability ? Greetings
I sent it back, was broke from the get go
@@gunnilingus2596 Ok thanks for your answer. Very clear, now. Not sure if you ever get it to the range on one of your rifle.
I had a good experience with them and the scope... But I did know ahead of time that it was a cheap ass scope.. I would have never ever ever put it on a 300 or anything sizable. I consider Scopes like this suitable for 22 long rifle or 17 HMR.
I think I just heard a future road-rage guy. Scary.
You must , remember most scopes are manufactured in China, but most of them are more then workable .
First focal plane will show the retical off one side if you dont dial it in.
Yeah, did I mention the windage knob wouldn't move it at all
@@gunnilingus2596 oh.ok. no I didn't see that. You must be the only one that got a bad one.
Dude you could’ve gotten that scope of Alibaba for $59.99 i’ve got three of them they all work great for me!!
do you have a link because I searched and it's nowhere that price now, they range from $220 to $380
@@DimaProk Yeah you won't find them cheaper. He probably meant another model.
If you bought through Amazon, you send defective back to Amazon on Amazon's dime. If you bought from Ali, you get stung.
Man you just saved me!!
I knocked mine over and now it won’t hold zero.
Dude tract optics 30mill tube toric.....outstanding!!
Is not about buying from China, it’s about you being cheap, you get what you pay for. Primary arms is make from China too.
Vengeance is Mine says the Lord I will repay ! Let Him or else it will eat. YOU up sorry and thanks 4 the heads up on"Discovery'
Man , I just bought a Discovery scope on Amazon from Apex Horizon. Not here yet, already scared.🤐
Well did you get it and was it ok
@Gunnilingus Sorry for your bad experience. I think you should dispute the charges on Amazon (easier if you paid with a credit card). That's what I did last time with a bad product came from China. Mean while, Discovery Optics is a US company in NC. airgunopticsplus.com/pages/about-us
People in US should know about products coming from China.
Thanks, I was looking at one too.
Will not now. If it seems too good to be true it is.
You saved me from buying a shit product!
But my scope is working good on my 30-06 rifle
ive seen loads of knock off Discovery scopes for sale. one of the worse actually spell Dicovery "Discory" actually on the scope lol.
Should change the title to "long winded rant". Try adjusting the windage to get the reticle centered? Have to remember the focal plane is in front of the erector assembly.
I tried that. It didn't move.
Agree with you 100 percent.
That is some bullshit. I did just buy one in the us I ain't used it yet though
3 words... Airgun Optics plus in the GREAT USA !!!
They might by the company designed the scope. The OP just got a pirated one.
@@Aviator168 No discovery is an all-Chinese scope brand and they make their own stuff. He got a real one, but every company makes a dud every once in a while. Should have contacted Amazon as they will get this kind of thing sorted out without you having to pay any return shipping.
Dude get to the freaking point! I am half way through the video and you still haven't given a coherent explanation as to why you don't like the scope.
It says rant in the title jackass
Well I got one from discovery on Ali express and honestly it's perfect.. You are very unlucky..Amazon was the problem on you're part not discover...honestly the scope I got is perfect..when u want to get it from Ali express make sure you see reviews first..
Use Amazon prime... guess what if you don't like it send it back with no cost to you and have your money back in 5 days.
similiar pricing also
Did u notice... Every chiana prodict smash everyting...
Quit your crying dude you got your money back most of the scopes are awesome
You you it's funny you say that? Today I was talking to my wife and I told her I wanted a little pussy, and here you are!
Listening to you rant is actually pretty funny lol.....sorry man
Man, I'm really sad for what just happened to you, as another guy said on the comments, you can buy them here in the US at airgunopticsplus.com/collections/scopes you must have one bad and this is really sad because now you are stuck with the scope, really sad.
Your message is valid, everybody should be aware of what just happened to you. Buy from US if you want buyer protection, buy from China and it just a matter of luck.
I'm a subscriber to your channel, keep it true, keep it honest. Cheers!
glad your taxes are lowered... but to late... I ordered one couple of days ago... I will find out how good it really is
They finally got back to me and had me ship it to a healing massage parlour inTX. USPS couldn't find it the first day. At least I got my refund.
