Starting a mental health revolution on Instagram 🤳
Struggles with mental health have long been stigmatised in the Caribbean, as across the world, but David Johnson is tearing down the taboo through his organisation Let's Unpack It.
David struggled with his mental health whilst at medical school in 2020, and observed his classmates experiencing similar feelings but refusing to talk about them. At the end of January 2020, David launched Let’s Unpack It as an Instagram page, offering healthy mental health coping strategies and a safe space for young people to unpack their lived experiences. 💛
When the pandemic hit, David transformed Let’s Unpack It into a youth-led, youth-focused, NGO, which is a leading organisation in pivoting how mental health is viewed in the Caribbean. Since then, David’s achievements with Let’s Unpack It include contributing to Barbados’ Mental Health Action Plan and launching the Caribbean’s first youth-led mental health network. 👏
