Here's a tip I found in another video for a faster start. If you order *one* road and two huts while your villagers are finishing the keep, they will have just enough materials and time to finish them before the first wave of immigration, giving you 2-3 more villagers right away.
Oh and another thing I discovered that I find quite fun. Archer towers (which do not require the chamber of war, btw) cost you 6 gold a year, but if you disable the job "archers" in the jobs priority menu, you don't have to pay a dime until you switch them back on, and then the towers will be manned as fast as your little people can book it (and the same for ballista towers). So not only can you reclaim the citizenry, you can save money. Which means you build up a lot more defenses than you can actually maintain year after year. You'd be amazed how many vikings a 3x3 or 4x4 castle can hold off when all four corners hold ballistae and every wall segment houses archers. Even better, with open paths to your city, they seem to race past outflung defenses, giving your towers a lot of room to kill them, and if you stick your treasuries inside these little keeps, you won't lose all the gold you need to pay the soldiers. Just today, I faced a massive invasion of nearly forty total Viking units, all moving as one toward my most recent expansion. I had noticed they liked landing on a peninsula just beyond the new city, so I built two 4x4 castles, dug moats around them, and then connected the two with a barrier moat across the invaders' usual path. I stationed a single swordsman inside the city, and ordered the peasants into the towers at the beginning of winter. They were all in position for the invasion. As usual, the vikings landed on the peninsula and charged in. Not a single troll reached the moat. A couple vikings made it past the moat and into the houses, but so weakened that my single swordsman could kill them all. When virtually the same invasion happened again, I brought in a second swordsman, and ordered them both to engage the units just leaving the moat. But with similar defenses scattered across my vast kingdom, I would have to maintain over 300 laborers and nearly 2k in gold annually to keep such defenses online.
Keep on the UA-cam grind man! Your videos are, in my opinion, top notch compared to others. There is no reason why you shouldn’t have 1000x the subscribers you have right now. Keep doing what you love and enjoy it! Good luck my mans 💪!!!
Hey! when creating grids with paths in this game the optimal size is to leave 6x6 chunks for maximum building space or 4x4 for maximum access speed (i highly recommend 6x6, optimizing the usage of your territory will be more beneficial on the long run)
Nice nice! This game looks pretty fun! I always have a propensity for declaring unnecessary war in these games so I say go for it 🤣 I wonder how it goes in terms of you taking over their kingdom? Do you get to take control of their populace or do you have to destroy everything, it’d be very interesting! Maybe you could get a bunch more towers with archers and baristas around the outskirts of your village as well to help defend, very cool!
you can land troops on the enemies' island and if you destroy their keep, then you can take over the island or vassalize the kingdom. you don't technically have to destroy all other buildings and don't really want to as it will save you resources, but you should probably at least destroy archer towers and ballistae
Defending your settlement with barkeepers ... I know this is just a typo but it's an intriguing idea. Imagine if you could meet invading armies, offer them a pint, and diplomatize your way out of fighting.
Would highly recommend New Lands and New Houses for a modded playthrough. Would also recommend using 3x speed more. Not bad for being new to the game cheers bro!
Tip: when you first start your kingdom you wanna place your farms at a 3x3 with at hole in the middle for a future windmill.
Thanks for the tip, I’ve had a couple people mention the 3x3 layout, so I’ll definitely be doing it from now on

Thanks for the tip! I tend to favor 2x2 just out of instinct for whatever reason, but I’m definitely seeing how 3x3 is more effective👌🏻
Pls make this a series
