Just got out of one of these bad boys a few hours ago... my first time, and it was SO FREAKING FUN! I can't wait to get to this point, but after today, I can see why this was so nerve-wracking for you.... So much to think about and such touchy controls, and I just barely got to test the waters.... I did manage to hover a little bit, but my god is it difficult at first! Congrats man and I hope I can get to this point soon!
Update, I'm now a private pilot, working at the Heli school front desk and working my way through instrument training! Every day up in the sky is still a blast! Can't wait to finish commercial and really start building hours!
First of all, great job! The first solo is always a memorable one. Secondly, to your instructor, (at the risk of sounding like a negative Nancy), I would advise against filming your students’ first solos. 100% of their focus needs to be on flying the helicopter, and there needs to be zero chance that they could be thinking about the video. Their mind could easily drift to the filming, how they’re going to post it to their social medias later, “wouldn’t it look cool on film if I did this”…, etc. Not every student would be guilty of these pitfalls, but if something bad were to happen on this flight, it would be very easy to put the blame on filming himself flying. Safety first, always, and I just see a potential problem here. Seeing how this was 5 years ago and he’s probably not instructing anymore, any instructor or student that watches this video needs to contemplate this thought.
Hey Omaar, did you look further into getting your PPL? I have my first lesson in a few days. I’m 21 and learning down in SoCal. Wishing you both the best of luck.
Took me about 9 months for PPL.... Working on instrument and commercial now.... most challenging thing I've ever undertaken! Never too late to start, plenty of older guys training at my school in CO
@@derpydoug4106 Is the Student pilot wearing eye glasses? are they super glued to face , no. First solo, hmm my eye itches..oops where did my glasses go............. Point said. The POH is a common sense guide
@@Chang739 Congrats I wish you all the best. I'm down in Newcastle I was considering swapping from fixed wing to rotary but I might just complete fixed wing before moving.
Very low hour pilots (like me in this video) usually have 'chicken wings' with the telltale white knuckles on the cyclic and elbow floating up in the air! As you learn to relax, you lower your arm and rest it on your right knee, its just flying with thumb and finger. Additionally, when cruising for long periods between A and B, the R22 has a 'Trim' control which 'recenters' the apparent force of the cyclic further forwards where it would rest in cruise. This cant be adjusted, its either on or off with the apparent center of force in the middle or forwards. Cheers!
@@winnipegfiredep The T-bar rotates up/down with no effect on the helicopter, so you can lower it to your lap and fly from there no problems! Only the X and Y axis cyclic directions (as seen from above) control the helicopter
Takes me back to when I did my first helicopter solo. The memories will last a lifetime. Well done
Cheers :)

Excellent job! Keep up the great work. Looking forward to more lessons from you.
Congratulations !!
I know this is a bit late but well done! Great flight! So exciting to watch.
That was just great! I was very excited for you as I watched the video. Super job!
Thanks :)
Wow I remember doing my first solo on a cold winters day. I was drenched in sweat from the anxiety. You made it look easy. Well done.
Thanks!
Congratulations man, big moment!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks mate!
First solo, lets add the pressure of 15 go pros pointed in my face. 😂
You get used to it; the camera isn't there!
can't believe i flew that same helicopter. bring back memories
Where/when did you fly it? Rotorvation days?
Looking forward to my first solo flight! Right on!
Good luck!
Nice job young man 👍
Living the dream 👍
Convert the controls to Xbox controller I wouldn’t have a problem
Congrats!
Awesome! Good on ya
Mint job mate.
Great work!
So so (nice?). Well done and you happy :)
I prefer planes, passenger jets but helicopters have huge windows all the way around to see which is cool
I'm ready!
That was not a solo he had the whole world with him 🤣

Классно!!!Это был первый самостоятельный полёт?
Nice job Liam, Troy says they don’t solo until 40 hours now. How did you attach the GoPro to your head set, was it your oun headset?
Nice !!!
I remember my solo in a R22
Great video! I'm looking into starting my PPL(H).
How old were you when you got started? And how long did it take you?
Hi mate, started when I was 25... and I'm still going! Slow and steady wins the race, right? :) Almost done though

Cool
BTW left door off is a nono, tailrotor strike loose objects in cabin, def not good idea on first solo
The R22 is approved for either or both doors off operation.
No loose items are allowed in the cabin during doors off operation

How nervous where you? I think I would be stressin out big time
Oh yes I was pretty nervous! But at the same time I felt pretty confident; the training I had received until this point was excellent. Cheers
ahh yes the worlds deadliest heli
How many hours did you have, until your solo?
25 hours, I definitely didn't feel ready at the time! Such a great experience in any case, such a highlight

Seeing all these Robinson videos I ask myself how you are going to fly for 2,5 hours with no armrest. Holding the crylic stick like that must hurt.

@@Chang739 ah alright. So it is possible to rest your arm. Thought because of the bend cross bar it is not.
