The Delhi sultanate and Nizam regime caused majority of population to become more culturally conservative. It became a protective mechanism for Hindu population. I think majority of India now is more or less moderate as per US political scale. Even the conservatives in India are not exactly similar to conservatives in US. Some similarities not all. British building railways in India is the biggest BS story that keeps repeating, if you look at the countries that have the most modern, efficient railway network like Japan, China, France or Germany, those countries were never colonized, TBH Indians built Indian Railway, for ex, Pakistan doesn't have good railway, or any of the African countries colonized by British, so colonial apologists should stop repeating this same old story. Since Andrew was so keen on knowing if there were any positives to British colonization, I think English education is one such positive contribution of British colonialism, but that was more incidental than intentional.

I think though that this aggressiveness Andrew has towards Saudi Arabia and their decisions that are aligned with their interests is biased. Vir Das made some interesting points about how the world views the US and perhaps bringing in other more informed guests can help us understand many of the decisions other countries have made following the Ukraine War.

The 1971 war was because of the intervention of India in east Pakistan ( now bangladesh). And bud America did not support Pakistan at all. Russia( Soviet Union at that time) however did support India because they wanted an Ally in the subcontinent to make sure Afghanistan comes under their leadership. The Delhi sultanate and Nizam regime caused majority of population to become more culturally conservative. It became a protective mechanism for Hindu population. Vir Das is a smart guy. His words will blow your minds off. But he's certainly not a good comedian in India. He sucked at Bollywood, sucked at standup in India, and is definitely NOT the most famous comedian in India.
I immediately clicked back to something Andrew said in a podcast with Joey Diaz about how some comedians aren't really comedians but they are more like Ted talkers who are funny. Vir Das is the exact definition of that. Another thing that Andrew has said was how Tiffany Hadish is what white people want black people to be. Vir Das is what American folks want Indians to be. He is a smart man. He knows that. And he does exactly that.
Many people took offence to the rape thing. Ever since December 2016, literally hundreds of thousands of people have taken concrete action against rape. You can even see it irl, i commute daily on public transport and every woman/girl is given atleast two feet radius space, no matter how crowded it is in there. And no one tells us to do that. People do it on their own. There are many such things being done over here and people get offended when their efforts aren't acknowledged.
I understand that these are just jokes. But we all have to understand that things work differently here. People hold religion and society in high regard. Jokes have to be a little truthful to work in India. Even if there is a little bit of truth in the joke, people will laugh. But if there's none, people will he offended.
