Tekno Sound Design 101 - Part 2: Sampling & resampling

- In this episode I chose to go in depth into sampling & resampling sounds - the key to experimenting with the sounds you already have.
This video is part of a short series where I go through various steps for experimenting with sound design and making your sounds fit well in between each other.
PS: I know that snare is shit.
The project files & samples are available on my Patreon & Bandcamp Subscribe pages for people who choose to support my work.

58:38 this sound rly fking nice good job
this track is absolutely the best if you like it!!! This track inspired me a lot for my personal work, so I just gave it a top with more pieces!!!...💥💥💥💥💥
man this is awesome, nice job! Do you have any advice for making hypnotic synths/atmos like the ones you are using in the video? I asume you sampled them from your modular unit or some hardware synth.
I'm trying so hard to make this kind of sounds in serum but I find it really complex
Thanks for sharing your awesome knowledge!!!
yes, most of these sounds are just some modular recordings onto which I added some reverb/delay, but they're definitely not bound to modular-only. you can reproduce them by modulating various parameters in your daw.
start simple; for example:
- take a simple 2 bar (8 beats, 8 'kicks' length) loop
- draw 8 notes, same key
- modulate parameters in your daw: start with the instrument, and then you can take it further by modulating additional fx using automation
- once you get to a point where you're happy with the result, you can re-sample the audio while turning some knobs manually, using a mapped midi controller or your mouse
- lastly, use the resampled audio file the same way I'm using it here
alternatively, use VCV Rack, set it to the same BPM as your daw, and once you've done some patching and you're happy with the result, record it and apply the same last step - resample the audio, mangle it with transpose settings (/2 or x2), change warping algorithm, add effects etc.
doing this a few times will build a muscle memory and you'll build your own specific workflow, therefore developing your own sound
please do try these options and send me a preview, I'd love to hear what results you achieve.
optionally, join me and others on my discord server where we discuss such things regularly ^^
Thank u so much for the advice and your time! I will try it for sure and send it when I have something I’m happy with :) have a nice day!
Crazy!!!
Please,
make a tutorial about a kick bass like this
not sure if you've seen but I've posted a video 3 weeks ago. hope that's useful for you.
it's a quick video, but keep experimenting from that point and you'll develop your own taste and sound by doing it more and more
Thanks :)
